“Better than excellent!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 February 2012

We try and go every winter to play golf on their championship course. It is unique in Spain in that it has no urban development on the course, only trees, parkland, ibis, peacocks, nesting storks, rare breeds of deer and views across to north Africa and the white pueblos of Andulacia. In winter it is millionaires' golf with relatively low green fees. Take advantage of multi-course discounts and the cost drops even further. The clubhouse is elegant but unstuffy with a large open-air swimming pool adjoining. Food ranges from excellent ham and cheese sandwiches at 5 euros to a menu del dia at 14 euros. The complex also offers a la carte dining with main courses of local fish and meat from 15-25 euros.

They also offer winter breaks with unlimited golf at the onsite luxury hotel. In addition to the golf there is quadbiking, horse-driven carriage rides, horse-riding and a modern art exhibition, most of which is scattered around the estate, and international-class equine events throughout the year.

But what makes Montenmedio special is the people. From course workers to the Golf Director they are unfailingly helpful and polite.

Getting to Montenmedio means a flight to either Seville or Gibralter and a hire car from there. Malaga would mean an extra hour's travelling. But rest assured whichever way you go, the jouney's worth it!

“SUNSHINE TOUR at MONTENMEDIO was a great experience!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 September 2011

The attractions are all FREE of charge!!! SO enjoy all the competitions that you can get in. Take a camera, because the horses are GORGEOUS!!!! And the riders don't mind you taking pictures of them!

There are many competitions going on at the same time, all over the property. So you really have to know where the rider that you are following will be competing in order to go to that area to see them. The grounds are very big and spread out, it makes it nice that there can be several competitions going on at the same time, but if you don't know where your rider will be competing, you will miss it. There is no announcer telling you where to go, because they have different announcers for each competition.
There are vendors out there and they have lots of cool stuff for sale, including riding equipment and supplies. The terrain is mountainy and hilly, so be sure to wear some comfortable shoes or boots. There is much dirt that does kick up there, so you will have powder all over your shoes before long, if you do much walking.

Parking is limited, so I suggest you go early and park along the street, away from the main entrance, and just walk across the street in through the back way, nearest the restaurant. That's the same street that takes you to and from Vejer de La Frontera. There are fenced pastures across the grounds of Montenmedio, and there are several areas to park along the fenced pastures there. It is good for small cars.

You can see the town of Vejer de La Frontera from the grounds, sitting atop the mountain. The houses all look white, old original white buildings. IT is really nice and within driving distance. The countryside is beautiful!

It does get a bit chilly and breezy out there, so take a light jacket or sweater if you go in February. I recommend wearing some light gloves too, because your hands will eventually get very cold with the cold wind blowing. Wear a hat cover, or something light to cover your ears, becasue they will get cold too.

The food at the restaurant is good, and it is open most of the day till dusk. It can get a little pricey though, so be sure to take plenty of cash since they don't take credit cards there, and I did not see an ATM machine on the premesis. The bathrooms are located inside the restaurant, and they are clean. But take some wipes and your own personal hand sanitizer, because they can get busy at times, especially during peak hours.
