“Great beach hotel”
Reviewed 12 August 2009

I have stayed three times at the Playa Victoria and I don't see myself staying in another hotel when I go to Cadiz next.

The hotel is perfect if you like going to the beach or hang out by the pool. it's also in a very nice area (paseo maritimo) and walking down to the city at sunset is a must!

My advice:

* Take a room facing the beach. It might be a few more euros, but it's definitely worth it.
* There's free wifi access provided by the local government in the square across from the hotel (you can get signal from the hotel lobby)
* The jamon serrano for breakfast is quite good

We had a very quiet and nice stay in this hotel. Thew view and access to the ocean was spectacular. The pool and its staff and facilities were excellent. Breakfast was awful, and housekeeping was poor if it even existed. WIFI was nice, room bathrooms were above average but dirty, but the hotel desk staff was unhelpful if not consistently wrong in their advice. Checkin was brutal. Elevators smelled awful and moldy. Hallway carpet is ancient. This hotel is in definite need of upgrades, and soon.

Myself and my partner spent a week here and would definitately return.

Unfortunately we did not pre-book a sea view and our room mainly overlooked the square with partial view of the sea. It was extremely noisy with workman diggin up the road outside from 7-10 am. Firstly this woke us, and secondly it meant we couldn't really sit on our balcony in the mornings! The noise from constant sirens racing up and down the street was also fairly irritating.

Twice we had to have the external shutters fixed which did help limit the noise when they did actually work.

The room itself was very large with a clean spacious bathroom leading into a separate area for the w.c. Plenty of storage space, nice flatscreen tv but I was disappointed that the website indicated coffee making facilities but this was not actually available in the room.

Not many places are open for breakfast or coffee so we did buy our own kettle etc and some food from the supermarket and made breakfast in our room.

The pool and terrace area were always clean and there were always loungers available whatever time of day.

The bar was quite quiet but always had a few people in. It was pleasant to wind down there at the end of an evening. Some nights there was entertainment in the form of singer / piano which was quite relaxing.

Liked the different exits from the hotel using your keycard, which means you can get directly where you need to without walking through hotel or around it.

The beach was absolutely fantastic. It was cleaned every day, it was patrolled by police all day, and just had a nice Spanish family atmosphere about it.

Hardly anyone spoke English in Cadiz but we got by, its very much a typically Spanish resort with restaurants not opening until 9pm! There is always a burger king if you get too stuck!

  • Liked — The location on the beach
  • Disliked — The fact I didn't have a beach view!

we were two adult couples late forties and our five children well not really children they are between 18 and 25 two girls three boys.we had a week at the playa victoria i had difficulty getting information about this hotel on other websites nobody writes reviews about it but then i discovered why , i think its mostly older people who use this hotel and they probably dont post reviews as much as younger folks. Most people in the hotel when we stayed were german french spanish dutch one english couple and us from scotland its not easy getting to cadiz from uk so that is probably why. The hotel is very nice indeed the rooms are clean well kept comfortable nice linen and towels ,good airconditioning centrally controlled very nice balcony some overlook the square facing inland you can see the sea but not much of it ...others face the sea we had a sea view i would pay extra for a sea view there is a big difference in quality of views.there is a little table and two chairs on each balcony.the tv is very modern flat screen type with fifteen channels two in english the rest in spanish or german.the bathroom has a nice big bath, shower overhanging ,plentiful hot water at all times powerful spray floor and walls are cool marble , the loo is adjoining also has a bidet.fridge well stocked with overpriced snacks and drinks good room service.the pool is fab the shower at the pool is cold and the pool water colder but once you are in its great so use it you will be glad you did, hardly anyone uses it because its cold water but its the cleanest pool water ive ever been in.plenty of sunbeds poolside and on the veranda above the pool ,fab views of the ocean from this veranda .there is a loo and shower to the left of the pool when facing the ocean you can also reach the beach this way because there is a staircase taking you down to the beach level but you need your security room card to open the door its useful because you can avoid going through reception in your bathing costume when going from pool to beach and back... you can also use this staircase to get to your room again avoiding reception.the restaurant is very well run good selection clean and welcoming breakfast times 7 til 11 am very nice indeed.the bar is okay waiters serve you at your table which is nice but it does take a long time try the cocktails lovely and decorated with fresh fruit about six or seven euros but worth it especially the pina colada and margheurita .The staff in the hotel are excellent. It takes about twenty minutes to walk to cadiz centre if you are young and fit.its all flat but i would reckon an older person or someone with health issues should avoid this walk in the mid day sun because its very open not much shade.buses stop across the road from hotel entrance to the left behind the square cafe shop.these buses take you to central cadiz for one euro.taxis are about six or seven euros. if you are looking for a wonderful beach holiday in a modern well run clean hotel with a nice pool this hotel is for you, there is not much to do around about but that did not bother us it was the pool and beach we wanted.nightclubs ...there are a few but nothing on uk scale ..even in cadiz the nightlife is not as it is in uk but bars dont really fill up until about ten pm here and young people tend to stay out til 3 4 am or later.for those that like it there is a macdonalds and a burger king within 100 metres of the playa victoria ..there are also shops and banks within 100 metres as well. The train station in cadiz has plentiful taxis at the rank and its 6 or 7 euros to the playa victoria hotel.locals consider this the best hotel in cadiz..watch your skin for sunburn the atlantic wind deceives and leads you to beleive you are cool when in reality you are frying.enjoy.

Our hotel in Cadiz was the Hotel Playa Victoria on the Victoria Beach, in the new part of town. The hotel is a modern hotel with adequate parking underground. The design of the hotel is very beautiful and the reception desk people were very friendly and helpful. The corridors were all white, with marble floors.

Our room was on the 4th floor and we found it was very big and beautiful. There was a very light green wallpaper with a symmetrical design on the upper portion that looked like waves. There was a big flat screen TV set in the room. The beds were very comfortable and had comforters, and there were plenty of puffy pillows. All the linen had very fine fabrics, the softest with a high thread count, and felt like silk! There was plenty of storage space in the closets, which had white lacquer doors, very elegant. The ceiling of the room had beautiful design elements. Our bathroom was very big, with a separate enclosure for the toilet and bidet. The bathroom also had a very large closet, which you find only in the best hotels.

The best thing was that we had a big balcony with a table and chairs, and this balcony had a great view of the beach and we could see the Cathedral dome in the distance. The hotel is located about 3 km away from the historic center of the city. The hotel had a big enclosed patio, which had a swimming pool and a balcony where people could take the sun and overlook the beach. The hotel restaurant had a very good breakfast buffet in a very elegant room that overlooked the beach. We could not have asked for a better hotel!

The sunsets from our balcony were wonderful! You could see the sun setting over the water, with the view of the Cathedral on one side and the beach below!

  • Liked — The beautiful room.
  • Disliked — Cannot think of anything bad.

Walked into a practically empty hotel but was charged 100 EU for the night for a room with a view of the ocean. I was given a room with a front view and the smallest balcony, while all other rooms on this side of the hotel with much better, panoramic views and larger balconies are sitting vacant. Also...while it is January here, the room is actually quite warm and there is no air or breeze coming in, even though I have the door to the ocean WIDE open. This is going to be a long, hot night. The room is quite nice though with nice linens, bath amenities, etc. I probably wouldn't stay here again. I agree with the reviewer above. I'm sure there are other places to stay with more character and charm in Cadiz.

  • Liked — The location is directly on the beach with beautiful views of the ocean.
  • Disliked — Too much money for the room and season.....
