“Overpriced and dated”
Reviewed 19 August 2013

Stayed for one night at the Regio hotel in Cadiz in august, and were extremely dissapointed with the standard and size of the room for the expensive price we paid.
The hotel gets top scores for cleanliness, the room smelt of disinfectant and the bathroom although very small, was clean and modern.
Dark, dated room, with no charm and a very poor view right onto a dated appartment building.
Hotel staff spoke limited English, however the younger staff were very helpfull and friendly.
Rooms were not very soundproof, could easily here conversations/ noise in corridors, hallways and from neigbhouring rooms.
No fridge or minibar.
No parking on premise, however an underground, public parking station 50 meters away at a cost of Euros 10 - 15 p/ night.
Overall impression, dated and overpriced. Would not stay here again.

The hotel is clean and comfortable and the staff very helpful. We didn't get the room we booked online which was suppsed to have a terrace but our double room was cool and comfortable. The shower room was almost as big as the bedroom and there was a good pressure in the shower. The room itself was not very big and there was no comfortable lounge area or bar so it was just as well that we were out most of the time. The beach area in Cadiz is lovely and is easy to access from the hotel. We took the sight seeing bus to get a feel for the place and the deal of two days for the price of one given by the hotel made it excellent value for money.

Hotel was chosen for price and location and did not disappoint. On a Main Street handy to shops and about 60m from the beachfront. Room was clean, quiet and the air con worked great! Desk staff even spoke a little English which was good as my Spanish is sketchy to say the least. Cadiz was great and I would revisit again should I get the chance.

The hotel is really just a short walk from the seafront, bars and restaurants in Cadiz. If your on a budget you won't go far wrong if you choose to stay here. As a business traveller my only real complaint is that the 8:00am start for breakfast is too late. It's not really a problem as you can get an excellent Spanish breakfast just about 50 meters away but I feel the hotel should deduct the cost of breakfast from your bill if they can't meet your needs. Rooms were very comfortable and clean and the stay here was OK but next time I will probably look for somewhere else but don't let this put you off staying here at 61 euros a night it's still quite good value.

Hotel to recommend. Near the bus station to the old town and near the beach. Spacious rooms with double-glazed windows ensure a peaceful sleep even though the hotel is on a busy road. Very comfortable bed. Clean. Solid buffet breakfast. Very kindly and helpful staff speaks excellent English. Free internet.

I stayed in the hotel Regio for a week recently after a medical emergency arose with a member of my family. The hotel was clean and comfortable. Everything worked. The staff were pleasant and helpful always, their English was better than my Spanish. The wifi dropped out occasionally but I could not say it was a critical issue for me. I did not eat in the hotel.

The Regio (there are two, the other one is known as Regio2) is located on the main drag Ave, Ana de Viya. I had asked for a room at the back, away from the street, and the room I got was perfectly quiet. The hotel is approximately five minutes walk from the vast beach fronting the Atlantic ocean. Spectacular sunsets can be observed there. Perhaps 15 minutes away is the old town of Cadiz and the cathedral. Well worth a visit.

Of particular importance to me was the proximity of the hotel to the Hospital Universitario Puerta del Mar. The Regio is possibly the nearest hotel to this hospital, approximately five minutes walk away. There are several hospitals in Cadiz. If you're visiting for this reason you'll benefit from finding out which hospital you'll be visiting.

Others have mentioned the practice of handing your hotel key to reception when you venture out of the hotel. It's not an issue for me. I never expected that I would have the only key to the room anyway. I left cash and credit cards in the room safe without any problems. There was a note in the room which implied that the hotel accepted responsibility for valuables left in the safe but not for items left in the room.

I thought it good value for money. I paid €337 for a six night stay.

If I have to go back to Cadiz I would have no hesitation in choosing the Regio again.

Reviewed 10 December 2012

I stayed in December and had the place to myself. My room was fine, very good for £45. The weather was cool and there was no need for aircon. Differences in these circumstances may explain some of the previous negative reviews clearly posted in the summer when the hotel was busy. The breakfast range offered was very good. There is no bar. One of the great beaches of Europe is two blocks away. Also the hotel is on the main road into Cadiz so there are plenty of buses to take you to the old town. Even though the area is modern and not very interesting historically, there are plenty of excellent local tapas bars and restaurants which are busy in the evening. You should be aware that there are two Hotel Regio's on this street, quite close together. This is Regio, the other is Regio 2. It can ce confusing.

Room Tip: The main road could be noisy, rooms at the back are best
