This new Parador has been built on the site of the old one since our last visit to Cadiz, and this time we stayed for a week wanting to explore Cadiz properly. The hotel is ultra modern and merits its stars. Its position on the promontory overlooking the ocean, and the wonderful botanical park to one side, is exceptional. Rooms are very comfortable and luxurious - spa bath, walk in shower and two basins provide a range of washing choices, and loved being able to fold back the room-high windows. One thing to note - we wondered how anyone elderly or with limited strength would manage in the rooms - everything in made of heavy glass which looks great, but take care if this is you. We only eat breakfast in the hotel - very well managed and you could not ask for a better range, quality and choice of food. My only frustration with this hotel is with what could be one of the best bars in the city. The designer/ architects designed a layered wooden deck opening out onto Cadiz's wonderful oceanside promenade. It has designer lighting, comfy seating and a good menu. BUT traditional Parador rules still seem to apply. The service is slow, and often less than friendly (possibly understaffed). For some reason the bar is lit up harshly as soon as it gets dark in the evening, rather than using the atmosphere lighting, and it generally feels that customers are not particularly welcomed any time of day. What a shame - we would have spent a lot more time and euros chilling in there if we could get a drink and a smile! Having said that, this hotel is top notch in all other areas and would definitely go again - and there are lots of other bars in the city centre - a ten minute walk away! We highly recommend the Plaza Mina, the Museum on that square and eating fried fish.
