Please see our review of 18 Pctober 2015. We were so happy we decided to return. The apartment has now been freshly painted and a sofa bed added increasing the capacity. Most important for summer, both bedrooms and the living room now have air conditioning/heating units (which we did not need at Easter as the temperature was perfect). Nieves has also added free WiFi which works really well and as she commented on our previous review, the door lock now works perfectly. A perfectly situated flat for a couple's or family beach holiday!
The flat is situated on the third floor facing directly over the Santa Maria del Mar beach, with a lovely view of the cathedral in the distance. It has reasonably sized double and twin bedrooms both with fitted cupboards, a bathroom with a small bath with shower attachment with enough power to have a good shower. A galley kitchen with a filter coffee maker, hob, microwave, fridge-freezer and washing machine and a comfortable living room with space for four facing out over the sea, connected to a balcony over the sea which has sliding windows to keep it warm in winter.
In September/October the flat was a very nice temperature, but I can't evaluate how it might be in summer or winter as it appeared to have no air conditioning or heating.
The location is perfect for a family. The main road "Avenida de Andalucía" is three minutes walk as is the nearby Carrefour supermarket. The street is filled with cafes and every other kind of shop you might need. There is a Lidl about 7 minutes walk away, and the El Corte Ingles complex at about 15 minutes walk. The nearest tube station is San Severiano (about 7 minutes) and the mainline rail station can be reached in less than 10 minutes if you go through the top "Puerta de Tierra" entrance. The old medieval town is about a quarter of an hour away if you take the lovely maritime parade round the coast.
The flat is in some ways a little old fashioned and tired, but this is really nit-picking given the price at which it is let. Our two concerns (we have two children under 4) were that the locks on the windows on the balcony had corroded which meant in theory one of my children could have moved a chair to the balcony, opened the window and fallen out - we therefore had to keep a close eye on them - probably only paranoia, but it did make us think. The second concern was that the main door key was very stiff and we never felt 100% confident we would be able to get back in (we always did). The landlady told us the locks had just been replaced, so I suspect this was just a teething problem. The lift was also a bit cramped, but 100% better than no lift at all!!!
Nieves was very efficient and helpful (allowing us to check in early) and did not charge us when we owned up to a breakage, which is always an excellent sign of a reasonable lessor.
We had a lovely time and would strongly recommend the flat to anyone without adventurous toddlers that might open the balcony windows. The Maria del Mar beach is our favourite in Cadiz - very clean with quite impressive waves but a very shallow slope so still felt safe for our little ones.
