We (a mature couple) arrived to Cadis by car from Gibraltar in September 2011. GPS guided us well, but at some point it said: you have arrived - and there was no sign of a hotel. Finally, we saw a small yellow plate with an arrow pointing into a very narrow street "Hotel Senator Parking". We drove there but found no hotel either. On the left hand side of the street we found a big metal door with a door bell and a little sign: Hotel Senator Reception. I rung the bell and a very nice gentlemen in green uniform arrived. After asking about the reservation and my name, he pushed some buttons and the door opened magically and he said that I should drive in. With great difficulty I was able to enter this pretty narrow box, which appeared to be a car elevator. The rest was easy: two levels down we found a spacious garage, where we parked the car and ascended by another elevator to reception which, actually, faces another street, not the one where we parked. All this was very confusing. With the exclusion of this, it's a nice hotel, with friendly staff, though the only person who spoke understandable English was the one we've met before. This caused another problem the next morning. I asked a lady in the reception if the breakfast is included in our room price, and she responded positively. After we had breakfast it appeared to be a misunderstanding, and I paid 20 euro for a cup of coffee and croissant. My fault because I did not manage to learn Spanish. Otherwise, it's a good hotel, located in the old city very close to all attractions with clean and spacious rooms and bathrooms (we've got a suite).

this hotel is very close to all amenities, the rooms were basic but clean and had tea and coffee making facilites (rare in Spain)
we were on the 6th floor near the pool but never heard any noise, and because its a mainly traffic free town it was peaceful, peaceful
pool area quite spacious and lovely spa area in the basement, often there are deals for residents, we had an hour and half in the spa plus a big helping of paella for 17 euros each
we didnt have breakfast but plenty of cafes nearby
staff were very friendly and helpful, some spoke English but on the whole we found most local people in Cadiz had limited English but its a good opportunity to practise Spanish
visit the camera obscura in the torre tavira
and have a guided tour on commuter bikes with sights and bikes, 2 minute walk from hotel and staff can book it for you
loved the weekend

The Senator was our final port of call in a 5 venue trip in Andalucia during which we had stayed at some very good hotels. There was nothing wrong with the accommodation or decor of the hotel which is well situated. Our room had two large double beds and a good bathroom and there was a nice view of the central lobby of the hotel which was decorated in traditional style. The reception staff were helpful. The pool on the roof is TINY but there were great views of the city and the port from the roof "terrace".

Breakfast left a bit to be desired. On the first morning several items on the buffet (including orange juice, ham and tomatoes) were not replenished despite several requests, and the eggs and omelettes to order took forever; on the second morning breakfast was not available until 15 minutes after the advertised opening time of 0730 and we needed to leave by 0800.

Cadiz itself was delightful. It was our first visit but it will definitely not be the last, although, as you may guess, we will not be returning to the Senator.

We stayed here early August. We were greeted by a lovely man at reception, he was very helpful, giving us advice on where to eat and what to see. The hotel's lobby area was beautiful. The rooms, although some might say need updating, we found to be very clean and really comfortable. The decor would be more traditional then modern. The aircon didn't seem to be working when we arrived, but was dealt with promptly with the assurance that we would be moved if they couldn't fix it. It was a very quite aircon, making us think it wasn't on, but it worked perfectly well. All and all I would recommend this hotel.

The Senator is pricey. For a 150 euro we got a spacious albeit darkish room with two double beds (nice and firm) and a large bathroom. The rest was extra. Prices in the minibar were high, the breakfast was very expensive, parking costly and challenging (access to the elevator(!) is through a narrow alley; the Signum in front of us gave up after 5 minutes and damage to front and back bumper) and the spa is extra too. The hotel is quite posh but a it shabby in the details. For instance, one window of the glass elevator was cracked, some of the floortiles were loose and the automated lighting in the hallways had a fiendish mind of its own. And the room was in peach. I hate peach!

On the upside; the small pool on the roof is a great place to cool off after a long walk (bath towels are extra, of course :-) and the views are splendid. The room - with a wooden floor which is more hygienic than carpet - was very clean, staff very friendly and helpful and you can't get better location! The Spanish breakfast in the bar (café con lecche and a sweet croissant) is excellent and affordable.

Dear Guests,

I would like to thank you for your comments, as it is through them the best way we can improve the quality of our service, understanding the perception of our product and most important the quality and friendly service we provide.

We are sorry for your disagreement regarding your point of view of the hotel; we are trying to give the best quality and service at our customer.

Our rates depending of the demand and this is high in a coast city like Cádiz in Summer. We work hardly for offer you our best relation quality-price but the extras you mentioned has the same price and conditions for the rest of the year and minibar, spa, garaje, as the cafeteria, restaurant or room service, are extra except somme offers which we include the SPA.

We are sorry for all inconveniences that we may have caused in reference at the colour of room (same at standar rooms) and regarding your opinion with the elevator and lights but if you decide to give us another opportunity, which we would very much appreciate, please let us know beforehand so that all our organization could be at your service

The Hotel Senator Spa is very central - within walking distance of a lovely beach/shops/bars/restaurants. The food in the Hotel itself is average and we were left waiting a long term for a hot breakfast. The rooms/bathroom are spacious. Pool on roof terrace - get a lovely panaromic view.

Dear Guest,

I would like to thank you for your comments, as it is through them the best way we can improve the quality of our service.

As you very correctly remarked, the Hotel is placed in the middle of the ancient historical downtown of Cadiz so we can offer a very nice location in the city for all our guests. It is a pleasure for me and all our staff that you felt comfortable in your room, pool and other facilities.

As long as the food is concerned, we work hard for offering the best products for the breakfast as well as for the best service as the show cooking. We kindly present you our apologies if the service was not as quick as expected.

We truly hope to see you in our hotel on a next occasion so that we can fulfill all your expectations.

Kind regards,

Alvaro Gutiérrez
