“Great location, nice rooms”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 July 2011

The resort had big rooms with great views. The pool area is very large with slides and a pool bar. The hotel is across the street from the beach and is a short walk. There are many convenience stores around the resort that make it easy to get things to cook in your room. The area is very inexpensive and we found eating out and the bars very affordable. We took a day trip to Granada which was very worth it. On the way back we got off at the first hotel stop and took a $15 euro cab ride the rest of the way to avoid another 45 minutes in the bus doing drop offs. You should definately take the local bus to Mijas (the town, not Mijas Costa). It was the most scenic place we went in all of Spain! The bus ride was only $3 a person round trip and it was a pretty ride up the mountain. The restaurant in Pueblo Quinta (the other part of the Royal Oasis resort) had the best spanish food that we had the entire time in Spain, and it wasn't too expensive. FYI, you do have to pay for electricity, however, it is not expensive. We conserved using our AC unit and then when we checked out , it was only 6 euros for the week. If we had known that then we would have run the AC more!

I stayed here for a week at the end of August this year booked in through a relatives holiday club(Sunterra). I was apparently booked into a twin room but it turned out to be a double so was a definite plus point. If you're on you're own the rooms are large and comfortable for 2 people they would be sufficient for about 10days to 2 weeks. If you had a child with you nowhere near big enough. The facilities were excellent including a dishwasher - wonderful. Downsides were that as this is in Benalmadena in high season it was great for kids but not for people travelling on their own. The pool system is excellent with very alert Lifeguards. Overall a good place to visit in most cases but times should vary depending on what you intend to do. Would I go again -definately but I would choose to go with my wife and at a different time of the year. I should say that the Sunterra entertainment is pretty good especially Howard and the gentleman who does the Stage show songs - (cant remember his name). Also I'd recommend anyone do the trip to Mijas Diamond Centre not to buy Jewellry -I'd recommend you dont but to get the free Ride to Mijas a wonderful town. If you've got he nerve to do a mountain bus ride miss the coach back and catch the bus and take your time in Mijas

I suspect your experience at this site will largely depend upon where your apartment is located.

Positives:
Apartment was large, well equipped and very clean. There is a lovely park opposite, with rabbits, terrapins and chickens roaming freely. The apartment was very close to the beach (about 100 metres away).

Negatives:
The set up at the site is very weird. The reception area is not connected to the site itself, but sits isolated in a very busy street. We were situated in a two bedroom apartment which sits in an entirely seperate complex (we were told that most of the apartments in this complex are privately owned). To get into the main complex therefore involved leaving our locked complex and walking up two streets to enter through another locked gate (we had four different keys to deal with the complexity of getting from one place to another).

The pool at our complex was very poorly maintained, no lifeguard and all of the poolside loungers were broken. There were also no toliet facilities. The spanish families whilst we were there would let their children urinate at the pool side because of this!!

The plants at the main pool are very overgrown and the shade they create mean there is only a very small area where loungers are in the sun. As normal, there were two families that laid their towels out at the crack of dawn and dominated the only decent space available for the whole week.

Despite being told beforehand that we would be able to use the facilities at benal beach, we found that this was not allowed during the Summer.

All of the balconies overlook a very busy road. Ours (despite being on the 1st floor) was at street level. Forget about relaxing on your balcony with a drink at the end of the day - there was a constant stream of traffic and people passing by. We never used ours during the holiday because of this.

The noise from the street outside is constant and went on all night. It was therefore impossible to have any windows open.

  • Liked — apartment was very big and well equipped
  • Disliked — location and weird set up
  • Tips/Secrets — check where your apartment is located - and avoid the 2 bedroom apartments like the plague
