By far the warmest welcome on the Costas! I was welcomed with open arms by the host with the most, Andy who loves life on the Med. He and his colleague, Amanda offered a very professional and yet an incredibly welcoming service. They were incredibly hospitable, very generous with their time and their local knowledge. As a sole traveller, I was instantly made to feel welcome by Andy's son who gave me some valuable advice on the social aspects of estepona. Fergusson's has an immediate warmth, you land in an unfamiliar place and you are instantly greeted with warm smiles. Whether you speak English or perhaps you know Spanish, a warm welcome is guaranteed. Andy even speaks sign language, there are no boundaries to the welcome you will receive.
His bar is increasingly geared towards sport as Andy was a professional boxer with a glittering array of trophies highlighting his success. His love of golf and football is also clearly adorned on the walls, with names such as ed de goey who have signed shirts and several golfing photos. The atmosphere in the bar is warm and full of life. All of the regulars are friendly, Santi, a local businessman would offer a game of cards, Alex would bring his very friendly dog in for a rest whilst he had a cup of tea. It is an incredibly vibrant place with very reasonably priced drinks and a warm welcome that attracts people from all over the globe.
Andy also happens to be a professional chef, as am I, his food is second to none. He would always offer me samples of his dishes he had made fresh, from scratch that day. Whether it be a lamb stew..which was tickling good or his egg and bacon quiche which was sublime. I have goosebumps writing this as the pastry on his quiche was so fine and yet quintessentially perfect in every way, crisp, yet slightly buttery and still so light on the palette. The filling was light and full of flavour. I would watch him cook in his open kitchen, it was like watching a true master at work. He seems so passionate about using the freshest of ingredients for that day's cooking as how it should be.
If there's one place to go in Estepona in Spain, go to Fergusson's, amazing food, a very warm welcome and a good time to be had by all. A stone's throw from the beach helps as this bar is open all day. It is truly a welcoming sight after a long journey!
