The main bus company that used this bus station was Portillo, so the surrounding area was always called that.
"Where do you live?" "Portillo . . ."
I bet that this little urban park gets called that too, "Plaza Portillo", despite the plaque saying that it is the Plaza ABC in honour of the very right-wing and conservative (with a small c) ABC newspaper which celebrates its 110th anniversary this year.
It's quite cute, and obviously better than the old eyesore, but I have a few concerns.
1) Will it become a skateboard park and football ground, especially when the kids come out of the school just up the road?
2) There is no shade - no hard shade features, roofing etc., anywhere. It's going to be quite a few years before those trees grow up to provide shade. It's going to be too hot to make use of it for much of the year.
My other concern is this: the new bus station is miles away, literally, up past the Convention Centre. You'll need a taxi to get there, which rather reduces the savings made on travelling by bus.
But in one of the most run-down areas of Estepona, this little open space is welcome.
