Down a quiet street close to the centre of Malaga La casa Mata Central feels more like a hostel than a hotel but that’s certainly no bad thing. The rooms are light and airy with brightly coloured feature walls making the whole place feel rather fun. There’s a small kitchen facility where you can use the hotels teas and coffee’s (free of charge) that I’m sure becomes a cool social area during the summer (we arrived very late at night during winter) . The prices are pretty reasonable and my only complaint is that there’s only one bathroom and it’s quite a walk if, as we were, your room is on the other side of the hotel. The shower is also barely able to make it past a light drizzle which is a little bit of a nuisance.

As with most other places we visited in Andalucía the wifi here was pretty rubbish but at least the guy behind reception did try his best to fix it. Speaking of which the staff here are incredibly friendly and helpful and that to me always makes such a huge difference.

Other people have complained about the noise; this is not something I could verify since it was lovely and quiet when we were there but that may have been down to the fact we arrived in winter...

Dark Cave with no windows, wi-fi did not work, walls were like paper, could hear other people chatting next room. Helpful staff, would not use this place again, even thought location was good, and parking very reasonable close by ( 19€ for two nights).

Great experience of this hostel. Homely decor - great power shower in the shared bathroom and free tea and coffee in the shared kitchen. Very friendly, helpful staff. I can't fault it for the reasonable price I paid. Convenient location for Malaga centre; all sites of interest in walking distant, yet not in an overly touristy area.

Have stayed here a couple of times so must like it. Was on my own and I was given a room to myself . Not too far from front of Malaga, Get to it via passing (or calling into lot of cafes, bars and shops. Owner very friendly. Breakfast is usual continental type., but plenty of it. Had a few card games and drinks with owner and regular guests. Handy for buses to airport. I walked to rail station and got trains to Torremolinos and other resorts down line. May not suite everyone but I would go back. It is at back of town.

Although Malaga is not the tidiest town and one would expect a hostel there to be something of the same kind, La Casa Mata is a pleasant surprise. Guys who run it really care about the place and its visitors. The hostel is comfortably located on the quiet strreet 10 minutes walk from the historical centre, nicely designed (modern optimistic interior with a touch of Spanish tradition), cleanness is an emphasis, friendly staff who puts your comfort in the first place. Coffee and tea, dishes and the fridge are at your service. Air condition and heating available.
We stayed there in May and the house was almost empty. I would recommend it without hasitation. Moreover, my Mom would :)
The only trouble is reach acoustics, but it's rather common feature for all hostels.

We arrived at Casa Mata early and were allowed to keep our luggage there until check in, which was a massive help. Upon return, we were checked in and given a map and recommendations (all in fluent English) by one of the incredibly helpful and friendly members of staff. We were given the double room at the front (best room, I think!). Shared bathroom was ok (I've read the shower heads have since been updated) and towels were provided. We had free wifi throughout and there are also computers to use in the common area. A large kitchen is available, including free use of the washing machine - which was bonus. Hostel walls are thin but luckily we didn't experience too much noise. Location was great - short walk to the centre. Would highly recommend for those on a budget.

This was a really really nice hostel and it's great value for money. The location is brilliant, not far from the lovely old town. It was by far the cleanest hostel I have stayed in and it has a nice big kitchen with all the facilities you might need. The staff were so friendly and helpful, on the first day I was told about nice places to go and things to see. I had a great laid back and fun 5 days there. If I ever go back to Malaga I would definitely stay there again.
