It was our first time in Spain and the Vincci was a great place to stay. We didn't know much Spanish and the staff was very helpful to us in English. The breakfast buffet was a great spread of hot items, cold cuts, granola, fruit, yogurt, fresh squeezed OJ and all the trimmings. It's a good deal if you just get it included with your room rate otherwise it's 30 Euro per person if not. The rooms were nicely appointed and a cool "rain-like" downpour of water in the shower. The place was very clean and the lobby/bar has a glass floor where you can see ancient Phonetician/Roman ruins beneath. The rooftop swimming pool was nice, although not a lot of chairs/lounges. It it overflowed, folks just threw down a towel on the deck.

The hotel was in perfect walking distance from great cafes, shops, City Centre, the Cathedral and Alcazar. We had the greatest time just meandering through the streets of an evening.

We booked 4 nights in a Junior Suite with a KingSize bed. When we checked in we got a very nice room on the second floor, with a living room and two separate bedrooms and bathrooms. After five minutes the reception called to inform if everything was as we expected. This in itself I think is a very nice touch; not a lot of hotels do this. I explained that the room was fine, it really was, but that me and my partner would not really need two separate bedrooms, and rather have one bigger bedroom instead of two smaller ones. On the website I had seen a wonderful room under the roof, and since I more or less expected to book a room like that, I asked if such a room was available. The very friendly receptionist looked it up, and a minute later we were handed the key to room 401. I have been in several top of the range luxury hotels, but this room really was one of the best I've ever slept in. A huge bedroom, a very large bathroom with separate toilet and bidet, a separate living room, and another bed and bathroom upstairs. I was like having your own city apartment; absolutely amazing.
The breakfast buffet was very good, lots of fresh fruit, bacon, eggs, salmon (and cava) and of course, an almost unlimited supply of very tasty 'Jamon Serrano'.
We also had a drink and a snack in the Wall-bar, which is worth a visit even if you don't have a drink, because of its glass floor that gives you an amazing view of the remains of a very old wall on which the hotel is is built.
The only 'room for improvement' to us was the decoration of the restaurant. Maybe its because the lights were very bright, or the fact that there were not much other guests, but looking in from the doorstep gave not a very inviting impression. We were very glad that we did not let this scare us away, because the food was fabulous, so good that it made us come back the next day, and it was perfect again...
If ever we're visiting Malaga again, we'll certainly check into this hotel again.

Room Tip: Push the boat out, book rm 401, worth every penny

The old town of Malaga is relatively compact and this hotel was on the edge of this part of the city, so no more than a few minutes walk from the main sites and tapas restaurants, etc.

As you might expect from a 5* hotel, staff were helpful and friendly with a good standard of English.

Our room was at the front of the hotel. Standard of soundproofing was good with no noise intrusion from the road (or indeed other parts of the hotel). This, plus a comfortable bed equalled a good night´s sleep.

I have two criticisms ...

The bathroom: they tried to fit too many things into a very small space and it simply didn´t work. Twin basins so close together that you had to use them separately or risk elbowing your partner or pushing them into the bidet. The there was the bath with shower. They had fitted a very nice rain shower but because space was so tight, they also fitted a tiny shower screen. Pity the poor soul that got to use the bathroom second in the morning - the bathroom floor gets totally drenched and stepping onto the standing towel was like entering a paddy field. I got the impression that they were trying to get as many features in as possible to justify the star rating. They should realise that sometimes less is more. Whilst on the theme of getting ready for the day - the one full length mirror in the room was at the opposite end from the bathroom and wardrobe, plus it was stuck behind an armchair, making morning preparations more long winded than they needed to be.

Second flaw was the rooftop pool and sun deck, both are very good and make great use of the space. However, this makes them popular and while we were there there was a rather undignified scrummage from the other guests to get one of the three sunloungers or two chairs. Most people ended up on a towel on the floor. The management could very easily have put more furniture up there and made it a much more pleasant experience.

Overall, a very competent hotel. The bathroom was quite irritating, but manageable. Otherwise it was a very comfortable stay.

Mixed feelings about this hotel & feel very letdown by the information displayed on their website. We booked directly via this hotel's website to stay 2 nights in a Junior Suite category of room as this was a romantic getaway for myself & spouse. All information & photos on their website site about this room type clearly show a very modern & unusual room with a free standing bath in the bedroom and large open windows. However when we got to our room it was a standard conventional bedroom layout with a small bathroom & lounge area - certainly not the junior suite shown in the websites photos. We went back to reception saying that we had booked a Junior suite ie the room with the free standing bath etc. They said that there was only 2 of these rooms in the hotel and they were occupied - The receptionist seemed to think this was a satisfactory answer. He said that if we had wanted this room we had to specially request it!
I challenged this saying that the hotels own website had allowed us to book this room over a month in advance. He was unwilling to change our room and did not offer to refund us the room price difference. Eventually after much discussion, we were told that we could possibly move into a junior suite the following day for our last night. We obviously did move rooms on our 2nd day and the junior suite really is a very nice room set over 2 levels with an open plan staircase. Unfortunately though the fact that we should have been allocated this room type from our arrival & that the hotel think it is completely acceptable to allocate a lower room type & not refund any price difference (a complimentary bottle of Cava was given after much discussion over refunds!) means we were certainly neither return to this hotel nor recommend it.

To our esteemed guest:

We thank you for the time you took to post your comments regarding your stay at our hotel. We deeply regret the misunderstanding that took place when you informed us of the type of Junior Suite in which you wanted to stay.

With regards to this, we would like to clarify that at the hotel we have 13 Junior Suites available, of 6 different types. Although they are all different, as you can see from the photos on our website, they all meet the criteria of a Junior Suite room.

As a general rule, we only confirm the type of Junior Suite that we set aside when it is requested in the observations category of the reservation, something that did not happen in your case.

After communicating to us your dissatisfaction with the Junior Suite we had allocated you, and letting us know the type you preferred, we proceeded to begin carrying out a room change. Said change could not be completed immediately, however, as we only have two of the kind of Junior Suite that you requested, and, at that time, they were both occupied.

The next day, as soon as one of the two Junior Suites that you selected became available, we at once conferred it to you, so that you could enjoy the rest of your stay in the room of your choice.

Please don’t doubt that we always work hard to satisfy our guests, and that we very much tried to do so in your case.

We remain at your disposal for anything else you may need.

Kindest regards.

Main issue for me were the big 5 stars outside, when this hotel is not 5 stars but rather a solid 4 star hotel with lovely features and nice, modern, contemporary decor throughout.

In comparison with much of the the accommodation in Malaga this is a top notch hotel, with wonderful facilities and a great look. The rooms are compact but wonderfully laid out and again, with very modern, trendy design features that give it a chic feel. Minor grumble is that storage space is a little on the small side and that the TV only has channels in Spanish, with no International viewing at all.

This being Spain, the staff are lovely but slow moving and there can be issues with staffing levels esp, at key times like check-out so do give yourself extra time to be on the safe side.

Overall, a great hotel in Malaga but do not go expecting 5 star as you would know it in the UK or the US.

Room Tip: Wi-Fi can be very erratic

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights in April. It's centrally located - a short stroll to the Cathedral, shops, bars, restaurants etc - but lacks any decent views from the rooms (although the rooftop pool area has some nice views across the city rooftops). Ours looked directly out on to a fairly shabby apartment block across the other side of a narrow road. The room (executive room) was huge and was for disabled access (we did not ask for this but I guess the hotel was full) so we didn't get the benefit, for example, of the his and hers basins that I think other rooms have. The overall standard of the room was good (modern, clean, comfortable) , but no more than average for a 5 star hotel. On our first night, we tried out the hotel bar. This was quite a disappointing experience - not due to the service which was very good -but due to the overall ambience which reminded us a bit of a railway station bar. The main negative of our stay, though, was our breakfast experience. On day one, we waited 10 minutes for a table and then found there was very little left to choose from the buffet selection. While eventually the food was replenished, the whole set up seemed completely disorganised with only 2 staff running around like maniacs trying to do everything on what was a very busy day. Days two and day three were better as there were more staff - but, even then, it took some time for food to be replenished (including the basics of bread, water and orange juice). We have never stayed at a 5 star hotel and had this kind of experience before. Maybe we were unlucky, but, in our view, a 5 star hotel should maintain consistent standards including in busy periods. Overall, in our opinion, this hotel is a good 4 star, but not a 5.
