“Very good stay and value for money”
Reviewed 10 October 2013

Stayed with my husband for 4 nights in October and would recommend. For a 2 star hotel it offers excellent value, it is about a 20 minute walk from the centre of Malaga but there are buses if needed and the walk is flat and along the beach. All areas are very clean, our room had a bath, bidet and shower, towels were changed as needed, we also had a very efficient fridge in the room, ideal for keeping drinks cold or snacks, the hotel does not have a restaurant but does offer a kitchenette with microwave. There are good restaurants in the area and a market where fresh produce can be bought. Wi-Fi is available at a cost of 3 euros for 24 hours, reception appeared to be manned 24 hours, all staff were friendly and helpful.

I stayed in hotel in July 2013. Room was perfect, everything you need. Towels, shower gels, aircondition, tv-satelite. Hotel has no restaurant (I knew it) but there is great selections of spanish cafeteries just 2 min walk. There is also spanish market next to it and bus to city centre 2 mins from hotel (5min ride) or 25 min beach walk. Will recomend to normal tourist looking reasonable price with clean enviroment. Staff very friendly - Antonio speaks English, very helpfull.

My sister and I stayed in Hotel Solymar for one night. It is about 20 minutes walk from the centre of town, and although we didn't know Malaga at all before going, it was good to walk around the edge and find the less touristy places. Don't worry when you see the rather brown grey beach on your way into town, as it does get better toward the centre by the harbour.

The hotel itself is plain and simple. As far as we're aware, there is no restaurant or breakfast facilities. This hotel is great if you want to explore the town surrounding it. It was very clean and the staff were friendly. There were 2 hotel receptionists over the 24 hours we were there. One, who was younger spoke the best English and was incredibly helpful as to which buses we could take to and from the centre of town, as welll as telling us where to take the bus to Granada from.

I would recommend this to anyone who wants to explore Malaga and especially if they want to practice some Spanish and see the Malaga that the locals see.

The Solymar is a small Hotel one block from the beach. Relatively quiet and easy to reach from the airport. Good connection by public bus into the old centre. Rooms are nice, clean and simple. The Hotel staff is extremely friendly and parking in a secured carpark is available against a small fee. Would definitely use the Solymar again.

We stayed at the Solymar for one night in February en route from Morocco. We paid only 19 Euros for the twin room so weren't expecting great things, but were very pleasantly surprised-the room was simply furnished but immaculately clean, and the bathroom fixtures and fittings were of a good standard. The hotel doesn't serve breakfast (although there is a microwave and kettle in the downstairs lobby area if you want to DIY) but we were given suggestions about where to go for breakfast and even in February we located somewhere very easily.
We found the location very good-within walking distance of the centre for anyone of average mobility, and really handy for the beach and promenade.
The guys on reception were really helpful, phoning a taxi for us, coming out to make sure it turned up, and suggesting where to eat. There are free tourist maps of the town in reception.
All in all, incredible value for money

I turned up without any reservation, purely "on spec". I needed a single room for two nights. I wanted to be in walking range of the centre of the city (the cathedral, for example, turned out to be about 20 minutes walk away) and to be reasonably close to the airport. I was in luck! For 32 Euro per night I got a basic, but spotlessly clean, individual room with a small bathroom en-suite, plus full satellite TV. The reception staff proved very helpful and the fact that there is no restaurant is not a problem, as there are several pleasant cafes nearby. I had breakfast and a light evening meal in a very friendly one, called El Cafetin, on the promenade, just around the corner, where the staff were very friendly. Though in a side-street the hotel is less than 200 yards from the coast and the promenade that runs along it. Highly recommended.

We stayed at the Solymar 2days before joining our ship for a cruise, and two days after.
The hotel is a little out of town but the hotel staff couldnt have been more helpful they helped out with maps of the local area and told us were to get the local bus.
The rooms are basic but very clean the bathroom was one of the best we have had in any hotel.
At 42 euros a night you would find it hard to find better value the hotel is located in a very quiet part of the out of town district but the local buses are just 1.20 euros per trip and you can get a 10 ticket deal for the price of 8.If you come via the airport you can take the bus to the town centre for 2 euros each and then take the no15 up to the hotel its not a big hotel so its not that well known just ask at the local bars it took time but we found it and it was well worth the time.
