The restaurant was overpriced and pretentious. The service was terrible and the food was even worse. Wine was poured in a way a five year old does. Avoid this restaurant at all cost.

Wonderful view - otherwise, more a 3 star hotel (not dreadful, though). OK food and rooms...maybe stay somewhere more central and come up here for a beer and the view...??

Room Tip: one with a view

When a room became available here at the last minute we felt very lucky as it had been full when we'd tried to book several weeks in advance. As other reviewers have said, the location makes for stunning views and the room we were allocated was huge, well equipped and comfortable with a patio overlooking the port.

However, the staff have got to be the worst I've ever come across - unfriendly, rude, offhand, disinterested, ignorant - I could go on. We felt unwelcome from the moment we arrived - no hello, let alone a smile (we didn't see any member of staff smile while we were there), it was as if checking us in, allcoating us a table at breakfast etc. was a huge effort and inconvenience to them - every single member of staff we encountered behaved in this way towards all the guests.

We had read the bad reviews of the restaurant but decided on our way there to give it a go and decide for ourselves. However, after being scowled at by the young female member of staff in the cafeteria at lunch time and eventually having a disgusting sandwich virtually thrown at me, we cancelled our booking and went to Tapeo de Cervantes instead (excellent and well deserving of its top rating on Trip Adviser). We made the mistake upon returning at 11.30pm of asking where the bar was - the surly man at reception barked that it was closed and that was what our mini bar was for!

At breakfast the next morning another waitress simply ignored us for several minutes when we arrived at the desk - we had to be very insistent to get her to respond and she was openly resentful at being asked to seat us.

This contemptuous attitude towards guests is inexcusable and the best view in the world cannot compensate for such treatment. These staff are in urgent need of customer service training. Their behaviour spoiled our experience and we would neiher recommend it nor return until this changes.

Just back from a short stay with friends in Parador Gilblfaro Malaga (3 nights).
Like other Paradors in which I have stayed this was excellent. Rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable with wonderful views over Malaga. (sits several hundred feet above the city). The terrace was great for just sitting having a drink or eating until the early hours. Food was to a high standard with an ample and varied breakfast and both the restaurant and the terrace areas provided food to a high standard. Staff were efficient and pleasant if occassionally typically Spanish! The hotel is short taxi ride or bus ride (bus stop just at Hotel gates) or for the ennergetic a downhill walk into the town and an uphill one back to the hotel. Rooftop pool small but ideal for a late afternoon refresh. Malaga is a great city with a wide range of historical and cultural attractions, atmosphere and very good restaruants. The Parador is definately the place to stay if vising the city.

Room Tip: check out the Paradores web site for deals. they do deals for 3 night beraks and for the over 55's.

Stayed here for one night in September. The main asset for this hotel is its stunning location on a hill next to the Gibralfaro castle over looking Malaga and the sea. There is a terrace bar cafe where you can enjoy the views, and our room also had a balcony which was nice for watching the sunset. There is also a roof top swimming pool and a restaurant on the 3rd floor, both also have great views. The restaurant is great for an evening meal out on the terrace and the food was really nice and the service good. The buffet breakfast in the morning was pretty immense as well - a real spread of everything you can probably think of for breakfast. It was really good quality too, sometimes buffet breakfasts can be a bit of a let down. Not so at this hotel.
A word of warning perhaps - its not very convenient for exploring central Malaga. There is a bus that runs down the hill to the town, but its better to get a taxi. We stayed here at the very end of our trip after spending the week in the centre of the old town, which was far more atmospheric and a more exciting place in which to be based. However, if you're looking for a real getaway in a beautiful setting then this is the place for you. You could quite easily stay here and never leave the hotel (not that i'd recommend that as you'd miss out on the brilliance that is Malaga!).
