“Nice- but not convenient”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 October 2008

We stayed here for two nights in October. The hotel was above average- it was clean and it was comfortable. it was not very busy however and many things were closed during the day. The beach that it is on is not very nice and the hotel is difficult to get to (15euro cab from downtown, or 45 minute bus). The bus station is however right outside the hotel wheich made it way more accessible.
As there was little-nothing to do in Guadalmar I'd have to recommend you don't stay here unless you have a car.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 September 2008

My fiance and I chose this hotel due to a combination of the facilities and vicinity to beach and airport... we stayed 5 nights early September 2008.

Overall, the hotel was excellent, beautiful and large lobby, cool air conditioning, large room. Superb breakfast which we got included in our room price making it even better value - excellent choice of pastries, breads, meats, cheeses, fruit, cereals yogurt etc plus espresso coffee and several fruit juices. Fantastic!

Great room/cleaning service with big fluffy towels.

Great hotel outdoor pool with loads of loungers. We did go at a quieter time of year so it was ideal as we never had to fight for a space. Literally on the beach front. Offered free tennis courts (also a gym but we didnt use it). 2 great cheap restaurants right on the beach and also a hotel restaurant (that we didnt go to so cant comment). A small supermarket within 2 min walk for all the other things you need.

10 min bus ride from Plaza Mayor - huge foodhall/restaurants/mall area. Decathlon also near by.

40 min on the bus (for only 1 euro) to Malaga - though due to road works I think this would usually only take 20 min. They are currently buidling a Metro in Malaga.

Malaga is a beautiful city with amazing views/history and great shopping as well as restaurants.

Very friendly hotel cleaning staff

We were overall very impressed with our stay.

The only niggles were (for us):

- slightly firm beds - though we did get two beds!
- room had no tea/coffee making facilities (though thats prob an american/british thing)
- air con quite noisy (but such a lifesaver for sleeping at night)
- reception staff not overly friendly and lacked information about local services like the bus timetable, what to do etc. On the other hand, the other staff (breakfast and cleaners) were lovely.
- taxis to/from airport a RIP OFF! We got charged 18 Euro on the way to the hotel and 14 Euro on the way back - its only a 5 min journey!!
- there is supposedly a bus service to the airport but it does not go straight to the airport. the bus service was a bit odd (could be due to road works) and the bus stop for Plaza Mayor was right by the motorway! It would be good, when they finish the road works off
- distance to Malaga city - you could take a taxi in about 20 min but we were trying to stay in a budget and bus took 40 minutes... however the hotel is nice enough to spend all day there, as we did on several days.

We would rec you consider hiring a car (but dont park in the hotel carpark cos it costed 14 Euro per day!).

I stayed there for 6 nights including New Year's Eve. It is a great airport hotel, very close to Malaga Airport. Althout i arrived at a late hour, because of my flight, everyone was very friendly. The room, a double one, was absolutely huge, especially the bathroom. Everything was very very clean and replaced daily.

I also had a big balcony, with chairs and a table, and an amazing view of the sea, the beach and the nice houses nearby. As i understood, every room has this kind of view. I stayed at the 3rd floor and i have nothing to complain about.

I had breakfast included, and it was very nice, every morning i got out of bed and went down to the restaurant where i found and opened food-bar, hot coffee, milk, all kinds of juices, and all the food you can eat at breakfast. All very clean.

Although i didn't spend New Year's Eve at the hotel, i noticed that there was a party at the hotel's restaurant, piano music and everything.

The hotel is right on the beach, really quiet and nice beach.

The only inconvenient was that Guadalmar neighbourhood is a bit far from the city center, but there was a bus station right outside, on Calle Moby Dick, that took you straight to Allameda Principal, the place it all begins in Malaga.

All in all, a great hotel, very clean, i paid as i left, the didn't ask for a single cent before that, which was very nice.

We could not believe this 4-star hotel far away from Malaga city and next to the aiprort would be so basic and expensive. It does not even supply proper toiletry, but cheap large squeeze bottle of very poor material glued to the walls. The shower had flimsy and dirty plastic shower curtains, the bed linen was also very basic with very old blankets and the pillows had passed their life. It is puzzling how they got its 4-star ranking by any Spanish standard.

If you are looking for a clean place to stay near the Malaga airport, this is a good option. Although, the hotel is a little hard to find, it is tucked back away from the highway. Overall, it is a clean, moder nicely furnished hotel. However, the walls are paper thin and the planes are loud.

Stayed here for four days and really enjoyed my stay. Check in was friendly and straightforward. The hotel was very clean. Rooms were more than adequate and there was free high-speed access to the internet available. I was surprised to see that a safe was provided in-room free of charge. View was specactular across the sea, with the high rise hotels of Torremolinos far enough away in the distance not to detract too much from the view.
Even thought there was a mini bar provided, there was no proper fridge, which was a shame, but wasn't a major problem.
The immediate area was very quiet with very little nightlife, but Malaga is a very short distance away at 5km.
I hope to return to Tryp Guadalmar in the future.

Enjoyed this hotel for two nights over Christmas break; the family room was especially nice, with twin murphy type bunkbeds that EVERY hotel should have, especially because the beds take little space but are very comfortable. The hotel has apparently responded to critics and made pool access free, but the weight room as well as the saun /jacuzzi still have charges (the latter is a ridiculous 8 euros/person/day). Friendly staff, clean hotel.
