“Never again!”
Reviewed 6 April 2010

For being a four star hotel this was as close to a disaster we ever experienced! When arriving to the hotel we were told our room was not yet cleaned and we'd had to wait half an hour. Since we were a bit early, we decided to go out fot lunch. When arriving at reception an hour later our room was STILL not ready. The receptionist informed us that his job certainly was not to look after the cleaning personnel. He could not do anything about our room not being ready. Check in time was set to 14.00 and we finally got our room at 15:00 - after waiting for two hours in total! We felt v3ery ignored by all receptionist personnel.
The room was supposed to be a premium room but we never understood the premium ot it at all! It was not very big, internet was at charge, there was nothing included that didn't seem like standard apart from the view from the 8th floor.
Since we were to leave early for the airport we asked for at prebooked taxi, but were told that this shouldn't be necessary - there was always taxis waiting outside. We were also promised a continental breakfast to be served at 6 am, as the included breakfast buffet didn't start until 8.
We tried asking for a taxi later that evening, as we thougt the service might be better when day personnel got home, but got the same info. No taxi booking was necessary as there always was taxis outside the hotel.
When arriving at 6 am in the morning no breakfast was to be found.. When asking in the reception, the night security officer shuffled over the floor to make some coffe and then just got back to his seat. He didn't say a word and we had to ask where to go. The breakfast was set for one person. One plate of bread and one cup of coffe.. We were two adults and one child. And in a hurry, since the time was running.. We finnally managed to have the tired security to make us another cup of coffe and rushed out to the waiting taxis - that of course was not there.. We arrived at the Airport 40 minutes after planned time.
In all our journeys around the world, on business trips, on backpacking, on luxury weekends or on holiday with our child we have NEVER experienced such indifferent or nonchalant hotel staff. Next time we'll stay in Malaga or in Torremolinos to be close to the airport!

Everything about this hotel is excellent. Easy to find from the airport, it is most unusually (for this part of the world) situated away from the concrete jungles along the coast, in a residential area of pretty villas. The hotel has a pleasant, open feel as you come in, and staff were most friendly and helpful. In fact we emailed for directions at midnight the day before we left home, and were very surprised to receive an immediate reply even though it was one hour later there - what service! The rooms all face the sea and are beautifully spacious, with lovely marble bathroom, big beds, and a balcony. One commentator has said the beds are hard, well, that nearly put us off but pleased to say it did not - maybe they changed the mattresses but the bed was wonderful, I can't sleep in a hard bed but had the best nights' sleep here. Pleased to say too that even though we could see planes going to the airport there was virtually no noise or disturbance, and you can always ask for a room on the other side if you prefer. Decor is cheerful and calming, the whole hotel is a very relaxing experience. As for the food, the breakfast offers everything you could possibly want but if you are looking for an evening meal you would do better to go a few minutes along the road to a lovely friendly Italian restaurant (ask at the reception desk for directions). The Tryp only offers bar food, which in itself isn't too bad but if you are looking for a proper meal then probably this is not ideal, though fine for us when we arrived. There was only one drawback as far as we were concerned and that was that the gym and indoor pool didn't open till 10am, which was too late to use it before breakfast as I would have liked. There is a very nice outdoor pool but January was a bit too cold for that! If you've got a car then communications are easy, we didn't try public transport but there was a bus stop just outside. Only about 10 minutes from Malaga - parking difficult unless you use one of the big parking lots, which cost about 1.80 euros an hour. Car paking at the hotel is free.
All in all an excellent experience staying at this hotel and would recommend it highly.

Right on the beach, clean and quiet..Beautiful panoramic view of Malaga. Close to the airport, about 10-15 minutes to the town centre. Downturn - no TV channels in English, or at least - none free. Internet use for a fee...Did not trust the seal on the toilet - "sanitized", as there was a sign on the toilet seat that it has been recently used. Anyhow, great hotel and would love to stay there again.

No free internet service. No wash cloths in the rooms (had to use hand towles). All T.V. channels are spanish only. Buffet breakfast (11 euros per person) sucked. Hotel restuarant not that good either, but there is nothing closer. Taxi cost 20 euros to go to Plaza Mayor (nearest shopping mall) and back which is approximately 4 miles round trip. Group of 20 people had to pay approximately 20 euros apiece to be shuttled from cruise ship dock to hotel. And then again to the airport. (You would think with 20 guests the shuttle would be provided free of charge). Close to the airport but not to much else. Close to the beach. Beach was nice. Swimming pool and work out area were above average. Beds were like sleeping on the floor. Room air conditioning was inadequate to say the least. Balcony railings were dangerously flimsy. I would not recommend this hotel to a friend, but I wouldn't recommend going to Spain to a friend either.

Because of its proximity to the Malaga airport we stayed here at the end of an otherwise wonderful Spain trip.

Where to begin? Checked in around 3 pm and headed to our room to discover an obviously uncleaned toilet and a non-working air conditioner. Called the girl at reception who requested that we go back down for keys to a new room. Got the new keys, went back up and opened the door to the new room to discover opened suitcases on the bed.

Went back down to reception AGAIN, and finally on the third attempt got an unoccupied room with a clean bathroom and a working air conditioner. We had a day to kill so decided to go to Marbella. Asked reception girl for bus information to be told that that taxi's were the only way to get to Torremolinos or Marbella.

Decided to pay for internet connection and after a little searching discovered a bus from the Malaga airport to Marbella for 4.30 Euros. We took a brutally expensive (16 Euros for a 5 minute) taxi ride to the airport , and got the bus to Marbella where we had a great afternoon.

Because of a very early flight I asked reception girl for a 3:45 wakeup call and a taxi promplty at 4:30. Next morning got the wakeup call, but at checkout at 4:20 when I asked for the taxi the girl(this time a different girl) said she'd gotten the note to have a taxi for us but had forgotten to call for one. This left us waiting for 25 minutes for a taxi to arrive. Very unprofessional and uncaring service.

Another negative is the ugly beach with the two cheesy beach restaraunts.

On the plus side the restaraunt has excellent food, and the included breakfast was very good.

This hotel is old and tired, and needs a facelift as well as a new attitude from the employees.

We stayed at the Tryp (pronounce it "treep" to taxis so they know what you're talking about), due to missing a flight and used the airport internet to find a last minute hotel. We're a family of 7 (2 adults, 5 kids from 13yrs to 9 months) and we were extremely and pleasantly surprised by this hotel. We called and got 2 double rooms (adjacent and conjoined), for 59 Euro each per night. This rate included a full breakfast buffet (eggs/ham/chorizo/cereals/fresh fruit/expresso machine....the works). So for less than 60 Euro you can get an ocean view with an excellent breakfast that will fill you up until dinner. The rooms were clean, and had an amazing ocean view. You should beware about the TV though, as the adult PPV shows through as a "pre-view" should you choose to purchase. The rear of the hotel leads to the public beach with 1 directly behind the hotel that cooks fresh fish right on the grill. I agree with the other reviews that lunch and dinner at the restaraunt is not a good bargain, but then again, that's a good reason to get out and explore the local area. They do offer a good menu for room service, that is done by outsourcing to local restraunts. You basically call the front desk, place your order, and it's charged to the room, and within 30 minutes you'll receive delivery. There is a nice supermercado right down the street, and although some areas of the neighborhood looked a little sketchy, I never felt unsafe walking to the small shopping area. There is also a great shopping area called the Playa Mayor/Manor right down the street with outlet shopping and a great Brazilian restaraunt. The cab should be about 8 Euro, but if you have a car, then it's about 3 minute drive. We would definitely stay again for the price....

i stayed here for 4 nights, a mix of business and pleasure. Hotel is less than 10 mins in a taxi from the hotel. It will cost you 20 euros which is a rip off but that's the minimum charge. The lobby is lovely and spacious and I found the check in easy. The comments about poor customer service i found to be very wide of the mark as on the couple of occasions i had to ask for some advice i found everyone on reception to be most helpful. The rooms were spacious and had facilities expected from a 4* hotel. the grounds are lovely and well kept and I enjoyed relaxing in the sunshine on the loungers most days! didn't try the pool but saw others use it. The view from my room was splendid (i was looking east towards malaga) I wAs not bothered at all with aircraft noise but the flight path was on the other side of the hotel......but be aware as Malaga airport is a busy place there are flights every 2 minutes!!!! There is a local bus (number 10) which departs from outside the hotel going to malaga and takes about 40 minutes, it costs 1 euro10 oneway. There is also a massive shopping complex going the other way on the bus called plaza major.
