“Centrally located business hotel, but missing a few amenities”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 October 2013

I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights during August 2013 and enjoyed my stay.

Overall, this hotel serves its purpose as a well located base to explore the city. The rooms were well sized with great views and had standard business amenities.

I dock the hotels a couple stars because:
- Elevators are incredibly slow. Sometimes the wait would be up to 5 minutes, not including the time it took to reach my floor.

- No irons available for my use (twice over two nights). Called house keeping 4 times over 2 days, and each time they said that they had lent them all out. I asked them to leave one in my room when they got returned, but I never received one.

- No breakfast for Marriott Gold members

Pros:
- Valet parking is easy and reasonable. Just be sure to let the front desk know you need it.
- Extremely close to the main shopping areas. Walkable to almost all key sites.
- Staff was friendly, despite being overworked.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room facing the harbor and the Alcazaba - incredible views

Dear clients,

Thanks a lot for your stay with us.
Regarding your comments we are pleased of your feedback because it is really important for us.
Our hotel offers 4 elevators, 3 of them are placed in the main lobby and the 4th is placed next to reception desk. There is a loundry service 24 hours and iron and iron board service free of charge.Last August we have had a problem with some of our irons, they broke without reason, and we had for 2/3 days until a new order of irons came. Sorry about that but there was available also the laundry service.
Our Marriott Rewards clients are highly apreciated by the hotel but we are really sorry to inform that the free breakfast is benefit non available in AC Hotels By Marriott aas you can read in Marriott Rewards Terms and Conditions.
We will be pleased in having you again with us.
Thanks and regards

Lovely Hotel, excellent central location, really good service and lovely pool on the roof terrace with a beautiful view. There is also some shade to sit in. Staff very helpful. The breakfast was unbelievable with so much choice. We had a view of both sea and Cathedral from our balcony on the 10th floor.

Room Tip: Ours was a package so couldn't choose the room with a sea view, but we could still see the sea f...

I really loved the hotel and the rooftop pool area and restaurant were a bonus. My only criticism is that when I arrived the hairdryer in the bathroom was making a really funny noise and had a burning smell. I informed reception who put a note through my door that night saying that someone would change it the following day. Nobody came to change it so I asked at reception again that evening and another note came through the door that night saying someone would change it the following day which was the day I was leaving. I was without a hairdryer for the entire stay which I thought was unacceptable. Other than that I had a very pleasant stay.

Dear guests,

Thanks a lot for your comments. We are really sorry about the hairdryer inconvenience. We have checked with the chambermaid and it was a room number mistake. The hairdryer was delivered into a wrong room. We are really sorry and we will be pleased in having you with us again.
Thanks and regards

I selected this hotel because of the Marriot name and being my first time in Malaga and Spain, wanted a trusted name, also because it received good reviews overall on this forum. I stayed at this hotel with my fiancée on sept 24 and 25 for two nights and they upgraded us to a room facing the water with a balcony. I also wanted to arrange something romantic and consulted the front desk. Juan and Fernando were so kind to provide dinner suggestions and also arrange a bouquet of roses from a florist in town and have it delivered to the upstairs terrace with a table arranged with a bottle of cava I supplied for a terrific surprise for my fiancée. I felt the staff really took the effort beyond the call of duty to make this a memorable occasion for us. I have had a lot of disappointments with other accommodations in Spain on this trip, but not at AC Malaga. Thank you!

Can't fault the location right in the heart of the historic part of the city. Wonderful views from the rooms either of the port and the coast or the cathedral. Roof top pool is fun but open to the general public. No exclusivity for guests whatsoever either day or night. People came and went to look at the view and take photos as my husband and I sunbathed. Felt like a thoroughfare. Free wifi didn't work in lounge areas. Should be free throughout the whole hotel in any event. Lifts slow but acceptable. Front desk staff very helpful and pleasant. We stayed in a superior room with mini bar. Spacious but fairly bland. All in all, yes would stay here again for location but prefer the Parador de Gibralfaro for peace and exclusivity.

Room Tip: Keep the windows closed to keep out traffic and city noise.

right on the central promenade in downdown malaga in front of the cathedral and the narrow walking streets. Really well located. A rather industrial run-of-the-mill chain hotel with very clean rooms. Front desk staff not entirely comfortable in english, and messed around my king bed reservation - but nothing that couldnt be corrected with a few trips up and down the elevator.
Rooms are spartan and rather unexciting, but views are nice if your room faces the sea, and the rooms very clean. Pool on the roof is nice but small, and the roof top restaurant is very OK, with stunning views. Breakfast is nice (although for some reason this is served in the 2nd floor restaurant with no views at all) . Beware this hotel charges for internet use on the WiFi - definitely something that many hotels have now stopped doing - as it should be - so minus points for that. Check-out took a long time as front desk staff had computer problems.
Very reasonably priced.

Room Tip: high floor with a view of the sea

Dear guests,

Thanks for sharing your comments with the rest of future clients.
Concerning our rooms, we wide range of rooms from relaxing rooms with views to the cathedral, to amazing rooms with astonished views to the Malaga Harbour, an unbeatable picture of Costa del Sol. Our roof restaurant offers dinners and lunches but not breakfast because our wide breakfast buffet requires a big space to offer all our products.
We will be pleased in having you again with us so for your future stay in Malaga do not hesitate in contacting us.
Thanks and regards

As we stood in the hotel lobby at 2pm to check in, a foreign tourist ran into the hotel screaming "policia!", because she had been robbed, in broad daylight, at the entrance to this 4-star hotel. The desk clerk did not help her, and in fact, told her to go to the police station in town; he did not offer to call the police for her. We were also warned by the Hertz car rental agent to not go outside after dark because of drunk and raucous young people. We did not feel safe around this hotel, or even IN the hotel. We were referred to the terrace hotel by the desk clerk, but upon arrival, we were told that they were full (even though all the tables were empty). Would not recommend, as personal safety and courtesy are very critical element of any hotel stay.

Dear clients,

We are astonished regarding your comments, because our hotel offers a central location, just in front ot the cathedral, the main street in Málaga and Málaga Harbour. Due to our central location there is a strong police presence , same as in other turist destinations and as a result, the area is one of the most safe in town.
Regarding the comments of the presumed robbery, we have not had any record of this type of incident, neither our staff at the front desk nor any staff in the hotel have been informed of any incident. In any case, we always offer our help to any person, guests or passers-by because our staff are persons with human feelings and emotions so in case anybody needs help, we are pleased to assist them.
Regarding our roof, there is not need prior reservation for having a drink but is required prior reservation for having dinner, if the tables are booked, as in any regular restaurant, we can not overbook the tables.
Please, check that your comments have been posted in the right hotel because our property is one of the most important and famous in Malaga and your comments result us odd and unbelievable.
In case you want to visit our property, please inform us and we will pleased in show our hotel and you could realize our central location and our staff service.
Thanks and regards
