“Malaga and the Palacio Hotel”
Reviewed 12 October 2013

Most visitors fly into Malaga airport (amazed by its size) and then drive on to their holiday destination, never seeing one of Spain`s most attractive, historic and energetic cities.
At it`s centre, overlooking the harbour/port area, adjacent to the magnificent cathedral and close by Malaga`s premier shopping street, is the Malaga Palacio Hotel,by Marriott.
Superbly located and beautifully designed internally, it was a pleasure to stay there.
On the 9th floor, our room overlooked lovely gardens, the port and faced towards the historic centre of the city. It was stylish and modern in design with lovely timber floors and a beatiful spacious bathroom floored in dark green marbel, creating a simply yet visually sumptuous whole.
It is a city and a hotel not to be missed.

Room Tip: high floor looking out to the port.

While we were stay at this so called "hotel" there were some fireworks. We did not want to see them but the hotel staff made us go into the cargo elevator even though we were staying at the "hotel" also the elevators are slow and the staff are not so nice.

Room Tip: Get the one with the sea view.

Dear guest,

We are really sorry about your comments but on the first night of Malaga Fair, every year, is taking place in town a Fireworks show that can be seen from the hotel rooms and our 11st floor terrace. This show is not organised by the hotel, it is a tradition organised by City Hall. This is a special night for Malaga and Malaguenian & tourists. We are really sorry you did not enjoy this speciall event but there is nothing we can do from the hotel. We offer our guest a special area on our 11st floor roof to enjoy this spectacle and all our clients always enjoy it very much. We are really sorry you did not like this special and traditional event in town.
Thanks and regards

I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights during August 2013 and enjoyed my stay.

Overall, this hotel serves its purpose as a well located base to explore the city. The rooms were well sized with great views and had standard business amenities.

I dock the hotels a couple stars because:
- Elevators are incredibly slow. Sometimes the wait would be up to 5 minutes, not including the time it took to reach my floor.

- No irons available for my use (twice over two nights). Called house keeping 4 times over 2 days, and each time they said that they had lent them all out. I asked them to leave one in my room when they got returned, but I never received one.

- No breakfast for Marriott Gold members

Pros:
- Valet parking is easy and reasonable. Just be sure to let the front desk know you need it.
- Extremely close to the main shopping areas. Walkable to almost all key sites.
- Staff was friendly, despite being overworked.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room facing the harbor and the Alcazaba - incredible views

Dear clients,

Thanks a lot for your stay with us.
Regarding your comments we are pleased of your feedback because it is really important for us.
Our hotel offers 4 elevators, 3 of them are placed in the main lobby and the 4th is placed next to reception desk. There is a loundry service 24 hours and iron and iron board service free of charge.Last August we have had a problem with some of our irons, they broke without reason, and we had for 2/3 days until a new order of irons came. Sorry about that but there was available also the laundry service.
Our Marriott Rewards clients are highly apreciated by the hotel but we are really sorry to inform that the free breakfast is benefit non available in AC Hotels By Marriott aas you can read in Marriott Rewards Terms and Conditions.
We will be pleased in having you again with us.
Thanks and regards

Lovely Hotel, excellent central location, really good service and lovely pool on the roof terrace with a beautiful view. There is also some shade to sit in. Staff very helpful. The breakfast was unbelievable with so much choice. We had a view of both sea and Cathedral from our balcony on the 10th floor.

Room Tip: Ours was a package so couldn't choose the room with a sea view, but we could still see the sea f...

I really loved the hotel and the rooftop pool area and restaurant were a bonus. My only criticism is that when I arrived the hairdryer in the bathroom was making a really funny noise and had a burning smell. I informed reception who put a note through my door that night saying that someone would change it the following day. Nobody came to change it so I asked at reception again that evening and another note came through the door that night saying someone would change it the following day which was the day I was leaving. I was without a hairdryer for the entire stay which I thought was unacceptable. Other than that I had a very pleasant stay.

Dear guests,

Thanks a lot for your comments. We are really sorry about the hairdryer inconvenience. We have checked with the chambermaid and it was a room number mistake. The hairdryer was delivered into a wrong room. We are really sorry and we will be pleased in having you with us again.

I selected this hotel because of the Marriot name and being my first time in Malaga and Spain, wanted a trusted name, also because it received good reviews overall on this forum. I stayed at this hotel with my fiancée on sept 24 and 25 for two nights and they upgraded us to a room facing the water with a balcony. I also wanted to arrange something romantic and consulted the front desk. Juan and Fernando were so kind to provide dinner suggestions and also arrange a bouquet of roses from a florist in town and have it delivered to the upstairs terrace with a table arranged with a bottle of cava I supplied for a terrific surprise for my fiancée. I felt the staff really took the effort beyond the call of duty to make this a memorable occasion for us. I have had a lot of disappointments with other accommodations in Spain on this trip, but not at AC Malaga. Thank you!

Can't fault the location right in the heart of the historic part of the city. Wonderful views from the rooms either of the port and the coast or the cathedral. Roof top pool is fun but open to the general public. No exclusivity for guests whatsoever either day or night. People came and went to look at the view and take photos as my husband and I sunbathed. Felt like a thoroughfare. Free wifi didn't work in lounge areas. Should be free throughout the whole hotel in any event. Lifts slow but acceptable. Front desk staff very helpful and pleasant. We stayed in a superior room with mini bar. Spacious but fairly bland. All in all, yes would stay here again for location but prefer the Parador de Gibralfaro for peace and exclusivity.

Room Tip: Keep the windows closed to keep out traffic and city noise.
