“Great homebase”
Reviewed 25 February 2013

We used this hotel as a homebase to explore the Costa Del Sol area. The hotel was about a 5-10 minute walk from the pick up point of our tours (Julia Travel booked via Viatar). Hotel was clean centrally located and best of all inexpensive. Rooms offered free Wi-Fi and included breakfest (7:30 - 10:30). From the airport it was 19 Euro cab fare. Receptionists were nice and spoke enough English to get by. Overall a good inexpensive option for a homebase.(If you book tours out of Malagra, be prepared for a 3 hour bus ride to Gibraltar and Morrocco as the tour picks up people from addtional locations. ) Hotel did a great job in helping me retrieve a camera I left on the tour bus.

Room Tip: Try and get room on one of the upper floors as it will be quieter.

A friend and I stayed at Hotel Bahia in Malaga, Spain. Initially we were unsure about booking this, but after reading the reviews this seemed to be more ideal when it came to 'cost, central locality, cleanliness and good reviews'.

The hotel is located in the central area of Malaga and is within walking distance to the main centre, bus routes and Renfe station.

From the Airport, you can get on the Renfe service from outside Malaga Airport (AGP) and get the service to Malaga Centro. This service only costs 1.5 euros and takes you to the final stop which is within walking distance to the hotel and centre. It only takes about 10 mins walk to the hotel. If you have a big suitcase and addition luggage then you may want to get off one stop before at Maria Zambrano Station (Main Malaga Train Station) and get a taxi from outside, these are running regularly around the clock.

The hotel overall was brilliant and well priced. Our rooms were cleaned every morning and towels were replaced. They also offer complimentary shower gel, comb and sweets when cleaning the room. The rooms have wardrobe, telephone and digital tv (unfortunately not amy English channels other than BC/CNN). The rooms have digital Safe which came in handy when we left our passports and money - easy to set up. The hotel offers free WIFI which was fantastic as we used this everyday connecting out mobile phone and keeping in touch with family and friends via Skype/Facebook etc. There is also a PC in the lobby which can be used free - we used this to check train/bus time when travelling to Sevilla and Gibralter. There are two lifts which are in full operation and there is a lounge area near the reception.

The canteen is in the basement and the breakfast buffet is brilliant, which offers: Cereal, toast, croissants, cakes, fruits, yoghurt, orange juice, teas/coffees and butter/jam.

There were two receptionist who rotated between nights and days both were nice, but spoke little English.. However enough to pass by.

It takes about 10 mins walk up to the main Almeda Principal street which takes you into the centre and many of the sights seeing places. The harbour is about 5mins walk and beach is about 15-20mins.

If theres anything anyone wishes to know that i may have not mentioned feel free to ask. I have done my best to put as much info as possible and photos to help others.

Room Tip: Request a room with balcony and avoid a room facing main road as there could be sounds of traffic.

We have stayed in this hotel for one week and we like it very much. The staff was very helpful and our room was clean and it had a balcony. If you want to go to Málaga and stay in some good and not expensive hotel, let´s check Hotel Bahia.

All the staff I encountered during my two-night stay here were really helpful and friendly, even though some only had minimal English (much like my minimal Spanish). I got a good deal including breakfast (which was fab for €5, plenty of choice and done buffet-style) on Booking.com. The location is OK, but I would be wary as a lone female coming back late at night as it seemed a bit seedy with very few people around. Otherwise it is very very handy for the city centre, with most sights within 10-15 minutes' walk, if that.

Inside, the hotel was very clean but very dated. It needs a major refurb - the patio door onto my balcony didn't lock (although there are external shutters that are pretty secure) and the rooms themselves are dated. That said, the bed was comfortable, the TV worked and the shower was so powerful it nearly knocked me out of the bath. Soundproofing between rooms is good.

It's only a short walk from the Centro Alameda train stop and most of the local buses stop at the Alameda, about three minutes' walk away. I'd definitely consider staying here again.

Bahia Malaga is a $15 taxi ride from the cruise ship terminal at the edge of the old city and within easy walking distance to where all the action is. The hotel is tucked away in a quiet side street. Rooms are comfortable, if a bit sparce. (TP and only one bath towel until a foraging mission secured extras.) Very very clean with secure locking system.
