I had been to Malaga before but stayed nearer the train station, which was convenient for the airport, but not for much else. I saw the Don Curro then and decided I would try it at the next opportunity. I am glad that I did! It is located on a quiet street in between the main shopping area (Marques de Larios) and the Cathedral. The bus from the airport (No. 19) stops in the Alameda Principal (Sur) just a few minutes walk to the hotel. (The stop for the return to the airport is equally conveniently located in Alameda Principal.) The bus from the airport is highly recommended - just pay the driver euro 1.10. Bargain!
At the hotel, I was delighted to be given Room 501 -- with a true double bed, although I reserved a single. The room had a partial view of the Cathedral from the one window, which was fun, but the rest of the view was poor (the backs of other buildings). The room was also quite noisy as it was near the lift and also near an office used by suppliers and hotel staff that sprang to life at 6am each day! I did not want to risk changing the room because of the terrific set up of the room and the double bed.
There was more than adequate hanging space in the wardrobe and plenty of hangers. The bathroom was excellent, albeit with limited toiletries. The pressure of the shower was good.
Although it was warm in late March (17-19 degrees C), the air conditioning was not on. This is normal for hotels in Spain, I have found. Thankfully, the heat was also off and I could open the window.
The breakfast buffet was of a good standard: eggs, bacon, cereals, yogurts, cold cuts of meat and cheese, pastries and fruit salad & juices. The waiting staff were very pleasant.
I also used the restaurant area/bar in the evenings for a drink. It is a comfortable area, with a huge flat screen TV, if desired, and again, the waiting staff were very welcoming. It was a nice way to end each evening.
I plan to return to Malaga during the summer and will definitely stay at the Don Curro again. It does not discriminate in any way against solo travellers and has a terrific location for the old town, shopping and airport bus.
