“Terrific hotel near the Cathedral ~ good value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 April 2010

I had been to Malaga before but stayed nearer the train station, which was convenient for the airport, but not for much else. I saw the Don Curro then and decided I would try it at the next opportunity. I am glad that I did! It is located on a quiet street in between the main shopping area (Marques de Larios) and the Cathedral. The bus from the airport (No. 19) stops in the Alameda Principal (Sur) just a few minutes walk to the hotel. (The stop for the return to the airport is equally conveniently located in Alameda Principal.) The bus from the airport is highly recommended - just pay the driver euro 1.10. Bargain!

At the hotel, I was delighted to be given Room 501 -- with a true double bed, although I reserved a single. The room had a partial view of the Cathedral from the one window, which was fun, but the rest of the view was poor (the backs of other buildings). The room was also quite noisy as it was near the lift and also near an office used by suppliers and hotel staff that sprang to life at 6am each day! I did not want to risk changing the room because of the terrific set up of the room and the double bed.

There was more than adequate hanging space in the wardrobe and plenty of hangers. The bathroom was excellent, albeit with limited toiletries. The pressure of the shower was good.

Although it was warm in late March (17-19 degrees C), the air conditioning was not on. This is normal for hotels in Spain, I have found. Thankfully, the heat was also off and I could open the window.

The breakfast buffet was of a good standard: eggs, bacon, cereals, yogurts, cold cuts of meat and cheese, pastries and fruit salad & juices. The waiting staff were very pleasant.

I also used the restaurant area/bar in the evenings for a drink. It is a comfortable area, with a huge flat screen TV, if desired, and again, the waiting staff were very welcoming. It was a nice way to end each evening.

I plan to return to Malaga during the summer and will definitely stay at the Don Curro again. It does not discriminate in any way against solo travellers and has a terrific location for the old town, shopping and airport bus.

If Location is High on your agenda for a Malaga Hotel,Then The DON CURRO is THE ONE .Look no further.
Good quality Three Star Hotel,it doesnt get MORE CENTRAL.
Very Good value. Good Large Room and Bathroom, and a Great view of the Cathedral from our ROOM 801.
Mind you.I dont travel ON LIFTS.Had to do 170 Stairs up and Down .4 times a day Minimum.I worked out.,In 5 days I did around 3500 stairs.
The Reception people offered us a level 1 room upon our arrival, but the view was ,just acroos the road to a wall.
No matter our stay was Fine,Good Breakfast,Service and Comfort plus quiet.
If you can take the Lift.Look for level 8.
Good Luck

we stayed at the Don Curro for four nights from 30/01/10.this is a good value hotel in the centre of malaga with professional staff and very clean throughout. The breakfast is more than adeqate and very late at night the bar is a good spot for coffee and cake and a large nightcap. We had dinner in the hotel on one night and it was ok.We did a day trip to granada by taking a bus to the central bus station and a coach to granada then aNo 3 bus to gran via in granada and another minibus to the Alhambra. This hotel is handy for the sights of malaga and plenty of good places to eat and drink. Go and enjoy.

Located in the centre of Malaga, adjacent to Cathedral, shopping, bars and restaurants. Hotel is excellent value, spacious clean rooms. Room had a balcony but only 3 on each floor have this facility, so you would need to request one. Decent breakfast with efficient staff. If you want to stay amongst loads of authentic Spanish tapas bars and restaurants then Malaga and the Don Curro won't disappoint. 10 minutes walk to the beach; for a great lunch an hours walk down the beach front takes you to El Pedregal, a fishing village with great seafront restaurants (or take the bus, the service is frequent and efficient).

We stayed at the Don Curro in early November, 2009. As we were unpacking our rental car a thief ran off with my backpack. The hotel was NOT helpful in providing us any type of assistance. We did file a police report. Before the incident the front desk was most helpful...after the incident they did not want to even see me.

During our stay 4 couples were mugged or had things stolen in only 3 days.
The hotel is difficult to find. The rooms are clean and tiny. There is free wifi. The food is pretty good.

The reason for the negative review is their lack of helpfulness to a traveler in distress. The other couples did not receive any assistance from the personnel either. Next time, I'm staying at the Hilton.

DON'T GO THERE!

For less than 50 Euros, I wasn't expecting much from this hotel. We were just staying for one night in Malaga before heading to Seville, so decided to book a basic hotel. But the Don Curro exceeded our expectations! It was very clean, the room had a balcony with lovely views, and it was in a great location. It is in the middle of the main shopping/restaurant area, and only a couple of minutes from the old town with its beautiful cathedral and the Picasso museum. Malaga town is quite lovely, and definitely worth a visit!

The only negative thing was that the bedroom smelt a bit like cigarette smoke, so be sure to get a non-smoking room. Otherwise, we were overall very pleasantly surprised!

We stayed for 1 night in Aug, and picked this hotel after reading the reviews on a few sites. We had asked for a room with a baclony (as some other travellers has suggested), and got a lovely room on the 5th floor with a balcony. The rooms was spacious, modern and had all the facilities we needed - even a minibar with some much needed cold drinks. The lifts are very small, so you can wait around a while, but this is no big problem. The only disappointment was breakfast, which was fairly basic & limited. It was packed in the breakfast room as well, so service was a little slow. The location of this hotel is one of it's best assets, as it's in a great spot in Central Malaga. The old town with it's lovely bars and restaurants is just a couple of mins walk, and the cathedral is nearby. I think that most Brits don't even go into Malaga, which is a shame as it has a lovely old town and the traditional bars/restaurants give you a feel for real Spain (unlike most of the resorts down the coast).
The Don Curro is a great base, and I'd recommend a stay,
