I’m lucky enough to have spent a few holidays in the Vinuela region of Andalucía over the last couple of years and have recently taken to visiting this restaurant as it is within walking distance of where we stay. Given the reviews on this site are a bit of a mixed bag I was a bit concerned about what we would find; however can say with confidence that we’ve not been disappointed.

The restaurant itself is an old-world affair with large iron chandeliers in the main section and a balcony area with a charming view of Lake Vinuela and Mount Maroma with the lights shining from the numerous white wash villages on the mountain setting the night time atmosphere.

The food is a traditional charcoal grill affair, quite healthy and large portions. A reasonably priced Spanish wine list completes the experience and all things being equal there are worse ways to spend an evening in the area.

We are looking forward to coming back to Vinuela in a few months; no doubt Restaurante El Pantano will see us back again too.

Pros:

* The terrace with views over the Vinuela lake. Not much else.

Cons:

* Food tasted terrible. Everything from the fried fish, to the pork to the pizzas. Disappointing as the B&B where we stayed recommended this restaurant.

* One waiter only on duty during our visit. He looked uninterested when we arrived and we had to actively approach him to get a table.

* The location, although with lake views, is in the middle of nowhere and in an area that seems to be in decline. Not charming enough.

We went here on recommendation of our pool cleaner. Arrived around 9pm and we found our own way to the terrace with lovely views of Lake Vinuela, we were quickly brought menus and left for a couple of moments then the very friendly helpful waiter came back to take our drink orders. 3 of our party went for the veal, one went for the children's breaded chicken and I had the chicken skewer. The food arrived quickly and plentiful and the veal were huge pieces, in fact if only 1 was served for the 3 of them it would have been enough. When 2 cut into their veal it was a little under cooked for their liking so I asked if it could be done a little more, the young lady waitress said it wasn't a problem and scooped up the plates and took them back to the kitchen. A few moments later the steaks were brought back to the waiting diners.
Everybody enjoyed their meal and all would return during our stay in Spain.

We arrived here at 9 pm on a Friday evening late July. Typical time for eating in Spain. However, the one member of staff that was in the bar area appeared disinterested. We indicated that we wanted to sit on the terrace, he pointed, and then no more..... No more attention, no offer of drinks, no indication of how long a table would take to be free. We were left standing for 10 minutes at a complete loss. The diners who had been seated looked incredibly bored. When some food did finally appear for one table, served by staff member number two, there was almost a round of applause.

We walked out of the restaurant to go to the place next door where we did get served.

We have been here about six times now and the food has never disappointed. The view is beautiful and we have always found the staff and service absolutely fine. The Gambas pil pil is worth a try as is the spicy chicken. We will be back next time we are in Spain
