“Typical Spanish Square”
Reviewed 5 November 2013

Plaza de la Merced is a typical Spanish style square located in the centre of Málaga. It is often used as a focal point for various celebrations, and whilst we were there on the night of Halloween there were hundreds of revellers dressed up in their Halloween costumes.
By day it has a very calming feel to it and is a great place to sit and have a coffee and just idle your time away people watching.

“Heart of the city”
Reviewed 28 October 2013

This is the heart of the city - both now and in the past. From it you can reach many of the main sites of Malaga. Or choose one of the many adjoining cafes, bars or restaurants for a great night out. On Sunday there were many stalls selling local artisan items. Those fresh, hot roasted chestnuts were to die for

“Authentic Spanish feel”
Reviewed 28 October 2013

Everyone congregates here in the evening, lots of Spanish people as well as tourists. The square has some amazing Tapas bars.

“Pretty square that got a new lease of life”
Reviewed 22 October 2013

A few years ago you not have felt like hanging about Merced but like so much of Malaga it has been rejuvenated. The northern side of the square is lined with bars and restaurants and others are opening. In the evening it is a big family scene with kids playing in the safety of the square and parents dining and chatting with friends. It is also very busy during the day and is attracting more and more tourists, like all of this fine city

“Quiet during the daytime”
Reviewed 16 October 2013

I love Spanish plazas and this one is a very nice example. Lovely buildings with shuttered windows surround the tree lined square and monument.
