“Value for money hotel in Málaga”
Reviewed 16 June 2012

We have now stayed at the Atarazanas a total of five times in recent years. From this it can be concluded that we are happy with the accommodation. The location of the hotel is excellent and now, with the re-opening of the Alameda Central train station, after the 11 minute journey in from the airport, it's only a 10 minute walk away. The rooms are clean and well maintained, and the staff friendly. The re- opening of the Mercado Atarazanas across the street has brought additional life and colour (and maybe a little extra noise) to the location. Malaga is a wonderful and convenient location for a 'city break'. It is a lively and attractive Mediterranean port city offering an enormous variety of eating establishments and monuments like the Alcazaba. We always find the time to visit this Moorish fort - rather like a mini Alhambra. Another attraction not to be missed are the botanical gardens of La Conception on the outskirts of the city. They are easily reached using the No 2 bus line from the Alameda - though you do have to complete the journey with a 15 minute walk. Also now on the ever expanding ‘not to be missed' list is the new Carmen Thyssen Museum. So far as restaurants are concerned, for us, no stay in Málaga would be complete without visiting the Cáfe Central in the Plaza de la Constitución. The great pleasure here is to sit outside to enjoy a meal and watch the multitude of people passing through the square. Another favourite is Vino Mio on c/Alamos. It’s a friendly, lively place offering contemporary European cuisine in a relaxed environment, AND it offers a flamenco show. Speaking of which check out Kelípé. There, in the rather odd surroundings of a unit in the basement of the Galerias Goya shopping centre, you will be transported to another place by the music and dance of ‘El Indio’ (Shane González) and his wife ‘Yedra’ (Susana). Already looking forward to our next stay in Málaga.. We'll be returning to Málaga, and to the value for money Hotel Atarazanas.

Room Tip: There can be some intrusion of street noise, so ask for a quiet room on one of the upper floors.

Have now stayed at this hotel on probably seven or eight occasions and have just returned home after a further seven nights.
Hotel is perfectly situated adjacent to the market and close to all attractions of the historic centre and main shopping area.
Beach is also within easy walking distance either through the port area or botanical park.
The hotel is meticulously maintained and has all amenities for an excellent city break.
Staff are also extremely helpful and attentive, breakfast is excellent and rates are extremely competitive.
Would have no hesitation in recommending.

Room Tip: Ask reception for advice.

We thought this hotel was great for a stay in Malaga. It is near all the sights, and the staff were very helpful. The bedrooms are of a good size and comfortable. If you want a quiet room ask for one away from the main road.
We did not have their breakfast as there are lots of suitable cafes nearby. The cafe next door does great meals very cheaply.
We caught the 20 minute train from the airport and then it is a 10 minute walk to the hotel.
Malaga is a lovely town with loads to offer and we recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: noisy facing main road.

This was a bargain hotel for a short break. I do agree there can be some street noise so if you're a light sleeper you may want to try elsewhere.
This hotel was a 5 minute train journey from the airport to Malaga centro for €1.20 and then a 5 minute stroll from the station.
The hotel reception, bar and breakfast area were clean and well maintained and reception staff were very friendly and helpful.
The room we had was on the second floor at the back of the hotel and was a good sized double room with bathroom. There was free use of the room safe and
free wifi.
It is situated in the old town close to the Cathedral, Market, all the shops, bars and restaurants.
Check out the hotel website for some good deals for early bookings.

A nice, comfortable and clean choice close to the action in Malaga. Handy for airport bus and a two munute walk from the main shopping area.

Rooms can be affected by street noise even on 4th floor and with no A/C on first night (it still being winter!), this was an irritant. To be fare, staff rectified this for night two.

Buffet breakfast was good value at 5 euros.

We got a great deal on this hotel so were very impressed with the location. It was literally 20 mins on the train from the airport and then a 10 minute walk from the station. There's a lovely fruit and veg market across the road to stock up on and it's just minutes away from the many tapas bars in the old part of town.

The receptionist was very helpful, the rooms were airy with high ceilings, very comfortable beds and a good standard of cleanliness. It was a bit noisy on the second night when a big group arrived late and sat chatting loudly in the bar area (even though it was closed) but that can't be helped. The breakfast was also quite poor - with packaged cheap pastries, empty juice and coffee pots and cold eggs but we definitely couldn't complain for the price we paid.

It's worth taking a stroll down to the newly renovated marina for a menu del dia if you have time too.

Overall it was a really pleasant stay and a good starting point for trips across the region.
