At first sight the hotel is a little disappointing. As you approach the facade seems a lot scruffier than the brochure picture. When we visited recently some of the balconies had brickwork damage and we noticed old furniture left outside on one or two balconies which were presumably never occupied. Inside we felt some of the fittings and furniture were tired and old fashioned.

However the service is excellent and the hotel was spotlessly clean. We only ate breakfast but the standard was excellent and comparable with anything we have experienced in Spain.

We actually booked for the Barcelo but were moved without explanation. The Barcelo is a much newer and modern hotel over the other side of the City but we feel The Maestranza is a better location for an all round break.

True the facilities are limited but we were there to be out not in.

Our first impressions drifted away over the first day and we would certainly stay in this hotel again and have no problem in recommending it

Room Tip: It is true that the road is very busy. We were 6 floors up and could hear the traffic significantly...

We arrived by airport bus, stop just across the road. Good location. We were allowed to check in at 11.30 am which was very useful and were given a voucher for a welcome cava! We mentioned that we would prefer a room on a high floor due to reading earlier room tips. Regina (on the desk) was very kind and found us a room on the 11th floor, overlooking the bullring, the view was great from the balcony, we even watched young matadors in training in the early evening. The room was very clean, bed was comfortable, a small fridge, hairdryer etc, NB no kettle but that didn't worry us. We booked through Travelrepublic, cheaper than other sites including breakfast. Breakfast was fresh and plentiful, hot and cold choices available. There was space available at all times. NB the spa is closed for cleaning on Sundays if this is important to you, though you can still access the area for sunbathing, gym, etc. There is aircon, heating and opening balcony door, three layers of curtain including one blackout curtain, a desk, table and two chairs and plenty of sockets for chargers though wifi is not very good.

Room Tip: High rooms facing the bulling are best, the sun does not bake all day and traffic fumes are less str...

I was searching for the perfect hotel to see the beauty Of this city. And I found one. We are located on a top floor. We see Alcazaba and Cathedral of Malaga when we wake up. They have wonderful view from terrace to the sea and Malaga castles. Everything worth seeing is within 15-40 minutes walk. Jacuzzi located on top floor so you can see the whole town. Love it! I love Malaga. And this hotel has everything what we needed. On the other side is Marina and Malagueta beach. Just happy I could come here. Can write hundreds words Of praise more but trust me this is value worth the money. I will post reviews Of some restaurants as well but note this - in Malaga level Of food and service quality in general is way above other tourist places.

We arrived with a hired car and if you are, like me, hoping to find a parking space in the streets next to the hotel, think again. There are no available parking spaces ! There are two public parkings near the hotel, but at the reception we were told that they have a parking space and that you can hand over your car keys and that they would park your car for 15,000 euro per day, which is a great solution. I realised too late that I left my GPS in the car, and they even brought it up to the room. We stayed in room 708 on the 7th floor, with a view on the sea and the marina. The first night we ate in the restaurant of the hotel, but there are a lot of better restaurants in the city. Location wise the hotel is located near the beach, the harbour and near the city. Breakfast has a large selection of cold meats, cheeses, eggs, bacon, etc. There are even churros. Service in the bar and restaurant were also excellent. The staff is very friendly and always there to help you. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper, ask for a room on a higher floor.

This hotel is well situated, the beach is less than 5 minutes away, the marina is about 5 minutes in the other direction. The old town is about 10 minutes away. The Hop on Hop off bus stop is very close by and the public service bus stop is very near also. We paid for a superior room and it was well worth it, king size bed, large room, large bathroom with a walk in shower and a spa bath. The room was on the 11th floor and faced south, we had the sun on the balcony all afternoon, we had a sea view and a city view. Since it was off season a lot of the surrounding restaurants were closed but the hotel restaurant had a good choice and the food was of a good quality.

Room Tip: The higher level floors are best, although there is a busy road outside, it cannot be heard when the...

Not the best looking Hotel from the outside but deceptive!
We had the quickest checkin ever which was a relief as we arrived let at night and tired
Room great - requested a room with evening sun on the balcony which we were given. Big bathroom - great shower - excellent housekeeping.
Breakfast was really good with a lovely outlook over the park and the Castle. It's a busy area traffic wise but this didn't affect our stay.
Whether you are coming for a visit to historic malaga, this hotel is so central for the beach, park, castle and shopping. We will definitely come back here again. Staff are very friendly and the jacuzzi a bonus after a long day

A little dated hotel. At least our room was quite small, interior was quite dark and "heavy", the breakfast room quite busy. On the roof terrace there is nice place to take sun bath and also a small gym and jaguzzi. We spent in November couple hours there and enjoyed. The location was excellent between the sea, modern passenger harbour, chateau and centrum. There are lot of nice restaurants near the hotel. Everything is in walking distance.
The breakfast was ok. We had dinner one evening there and were a little disappointred. We recommend to eat outside.
