“Lovely modern hotel”
Reviewed 14 January 2014

This is a lovely modern hotel, with nice comfortable rooms, a brilliant walk-in shower with jets etc. Comfortable bed and pillows. It's not right in the centre but only about 15 minutes walk, and it's right next to the station if you're arriving/leaving by train. Parking at the hotel is 17 euros a day, but if you're prepared to look around you should be able to find free parking nearby. We drove down Calle Ferrocarril just next to the hotel and found parking at the end of the road, just 5 minutes walk away. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel, but there's a nice little cafe on the ground floor of the shopping centre at the station next door.

We travelled with our 2 yr old to Malaga for a city break and stayed at the Barcelo.
Good location above the main train station Maria Zembrano (10 mn by train to airport). 10-15 walk to the centre. Unlike some other cities, the area around the station is perfectly safe, and has lots of decent shops.
The hotel itself is modern and quite big; the staff are friendly and speak foreign languages. There is an amazing slide in the middle of the lobby that we used to take after breakfast.
The room was of good size, bit too warm from the south exposure, the bed massive. Everything was comfortable and clean. We had one problem with a sliding door and that was fixed on the same day while we were out.
The breakfast buffet was varied, the quality of food excellent. They had high chairs and an endless supply of smiles.
If back in Malaga, we would stay at Barcelo again

Room Tip: I would stay away from south facing rooms, too hot!

Super modern hotel, caters for business but is also great for tourists. We came by train so it was great to just get to the hotel via the same building as the station.
Staff were helpful and friendly. Room was large and luxurious.
We walked to the city centre and it took about 20 minutes of easy walking, but there is also buses that go to the centre regularly from the front of hotel.
We didn't have breakfast here but went next door to the train station which had heaps of places to choose from.

Chose the Barcelo Malaga for the last leg of our trip to the Costa del Sol; excellent location adjacent to the Maria Zambrano Train Station, and 3 hops by train to the Malaga International Airport. One does not need to leave the station to access the hotel, yet the hotel is well insulated and undisturbed by the many trains. The hotel itself is modern and spacious. About 10-15 minutes walk to the main plaza as well as beachfront.

Check-in was awfully slow and the check-in person could have been more cheerful even when under pressure of having a long queue of guests checking in and out...

My major complaint and irritation though was the dreadful wifi signal in the room (4th floor), and essentially one had to stand in the passageway or other public areas to have a decent signal on our cell phones and iPad. We stayed at the hotel for only two nights and regretfully will not stay there again. So I would recommend this to future travellers if you don't need wifi (or prepared to pay for a premium service) but require close access to the train station.

Very cosy sort-of-design-hotel. Built 20 years ago, but redesigned and upgraded lately, it is a very good choice for everyone who likes to see and experience good hospitality. The first neighbor is Malaga Maria Zambrano‎ railway station, but don't worry: no sights and sounds of trains in this hotel. Rooms and bathrooms are soundproof, big enough and equipped with just about anything you might need. Beds are great for sleeping. Laminate flooring in all rooms goes with the rest of design, but doesn't sound really good. No balcony and spectacular view is balanced with hotel's location (15-20 min walk to the city center), great interiors, absolutely crazy slider ( I had to experience although 43 of age), great choice of food. Bar area is well designed, but empty, maybe some vivid light and music might help.

I stay in this hotel regularly en route to/from Malaga Airport. It is a modern, clean hotel with decent breakfast and lovely friendly staff. It has an excellent location next to Maria Zambrano Railway Station making it an excellent choice if you are travelling to/from the airport by metro or travelling on elsewhere in Spain by train (or from the nearby bus station). The station has a decent selection of shops, bars, restaurants in the VIalia centre which can be accessed directly from the hotel and the large Larios Shopping Centre is only a few minutes walk away. The town centre is an easy flat 10/15 minute walk away and Malaga Beach around 5 minutes walk away.

Overall the hotel is perfectly located at the train station if you plan on visiting the other major cities in Andalucia. It's easy to get to by train to/from the airport as well as to/from other cities by train and convenient if you rent a car and drive to other cities. It's also located relatively close to the main touristy areas in Malaga - an easy 10-15 minutes walk to the main street, Calle Larios.

The hotel itself is pretty modern and nice. The breakfast buffet is a pretty good deal considering what you can get - an unlimited amount of iberico ham which make it all worth it. the other stuff is pretty tasty too.

The room is on the smaller side, but has enough room to fit a king-size bed, a comfy recliner and a bench for luggage. there's also a desk and chair.

The bed was very comfy but i do have to say the pillows were not so great. there were two types - large square pillows which i noticed were common in other hotels we stayed in at spain. not sure if they are meant to be functional or are simply for decoration - either way, they aren't so comfortable to sleep on. the other pillows were the length of king size pillows but were half the width, so your head/neck didn't both fit straight on.

All in all, it was a pretty nice stay. The room was clean, quiet and had no visible issues. It was always on the warm side though - i think because of all the lights. We left the window open and it helped regulate the temp a bit but the room still stayed mostly too warm.
