“Cannot be faulted”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 May 2014

We stayed here for four nights at the end of April. Lets get the disadvantages out of the way - it's approximately a 20 minute walk to the heart of Malaga. That's the downside taken care of. The hotel is located within the complex that is Maria Zambrano railway station and shopping centre. It is an eight minute train ride from the airport. First impressions were excellent, an efficient welcoming reception that had us checked in within a few minutes. English is widely (and well) spoken. Our standard room was huge and came with air con and a decent sized en-suite bathroom with a large shower (not the usual coffin size). The room was quiet, clean and had a king size bed. The bar is open noon until 1 am and serves burgers, pasta, pizza in addition to the usual drinks. Beer is served with complimentary crisps, olives or nuts; coffee comes with biscuits. We also ate twice in the restaurant - excellent food at a reasonable price. Breakfast buffet is superb, a huge range of cereal, cheese, bread, fruit, cooked meat, veg, eggs, etc. A chef is on hand to prepare dishes not available on the buffet. The Nespresso machines have a choice of at least 6 coffees. Our stay was excellent, the service was faultless throughout and we even used the slide! If on a budget, this hotel is the one to choose.

Room Tip: The restaurant is open 13.30 to 16.30 and from 20.30 at night.

Very modern boutique hotel which is funky and incredibly comfortable. The hotel has direct access from the railway station and is a 10 to 15 minute walk to the centre of Malaga. The trains run direct from the airport to the railway so is ideal for those wanting to get to their hotel without any fuss. The train fair is currently 1.75 Euros per person. There is no noise from the trains and the station is more like an airport with shops and cafes. The rooms in the hotel are very modern. The shower is absolutely fabulous with jets to ease your aches and pains after a day of shopping. You must try the slide from the first floor to the ground floor. It's is for adults and not for children. great fun. Don't be put off by the area surrounding the hotel as it is a bit run down which I take is due to the recession but we never felt threatened when walking home even late on. The staff are friendly and checking in was no problem. A hint is when checking in if they offer a price for breakfast and you want to eat in the hotel advise during check in as if you decide to have breakfast at a later stage the price will increase.

Excellent hotel for people wanting to connect with Malaga Airport and Malaga centre and the train station. I always use this hotel when travelling from Manchester to Seville. Right inside the train station.

This hotel is highly recommended. Definitely has the best service we've ever got in the Malaga region. Barcelo is very modern, very good value for money, and never dissapoints. It definitely deserves its 5 star rating.

We stayed here for four nights last year and came back mainly because of the location for our last night after returning from Seville, and the reasonable price. It is a nice hotel but quite functional and business like rather than welcoming. We had a comfortable stay with no problems and I would definitely stay again if I needed to be close to the station rather than the city centre.

Of the 5 hotels we stayed at in Andalucia, my family and I agree this one was the best. Although the room wasn't very large (we had a double bedroom with an extra bed for our 9yo daughter that didn't leave a lot of extra room), it was very nice and clean. Being literally at the train station was very convenient for going to/from the airport and the walk to the city center was not that long (20 mins approx). What we liked the most was the breakfast (amazing coffee machine and really lots of options - we even had mimosas the first morning), except for my daughter, whose favourite thing was the slide (yes, a slide) from the first floor to the reception. Great hotel with very friendly staff at reception, would happily stay there again.

Nice hotel, very friendly staff, excellent breakfast. Situated next to the railway station, so easy to visit other towns. The hotel isn't in the centre of malaga but in walking distance to that centre, and, in walking distance of the beach. We enjoyed the little restaurants and the bars in the neighbourhood.
