“Central and many good features”
Reviewed 1 December 2013

We stayed two nights and got what we required :- a good base for all the main sights, but surprisingly quiet for its central location at the rear of the cathedral up a narrow pedestrianised street near Constitution Square. The room was functional and clean and the bathroom spacious, and well-lit, staff were helpful and the breakfast selection well-presented and generous. We found the black and orange colour theme in the public areas was overdone and the corridors claustrophobically dark We used taxis to/from the hotel and drivers should know that it's a couple of hundred metres walk to the hotel. You can walk in a few minutes to the two main art galleries, the cathedral, port and shops. We felt we got good value for money.and would stay there again.

Room Tip: We were in 204 which looked on to the central courtyard.

We stayed in November in 2 rooms for 2 nights. Unfortunately we payed in advance for our rooms and it was to late to turn around and run away from that shabby place when we arrived and saw our rooms.
Both our so-called "double" rooms were very small and not very pleasant to stay for the long time without feeling like being in the prison sell.Beds are doubles (not king size as in most 4 stars hotels), so it was quite a narrow squeeze for 2 adults.
Room 402 has a window so high, you have to step on the bad or the chair to reach it.
Room 206 was even worse: the window enclosed, basically you were facing 3 other walls of the building and it felt claustrophobic being there (see the pic). Moreover we could not even open the window as the kitchen smell from the vent (running all the way up from the ground floor) from the downstairs restaurant was very strong and unpleasant.
The shower in room 206 was probably blocked from the limescale, so we could only had a"dripping" shower in the mornings. Their "whirlpool" bath did not look very inviting with all the mold around it (see the pics), so we did not dare to try it whether it was in a working order. We complained to the reception, but being in Malaga over the weekend they could not do anything to fix the shower.
By some reason in the mid November there were mosquitoes in room 206, so we had a terrible bites in the mornings.
Wi-fi is very unreliable, very slow, all our tablets and smart phones being disconnected very often and we had to re-enter the passwords all over again. We did not use the laptops provided in the rooms, as we thought nearly everyone nowadays have their smartphones/tablets and it is not very safe and practical/comfortable to use a public computer, if you have your own modern device.
But the worst thing about the rooms were the beds: we love hard mattresses, but even for us they were rock-hard and so uncomfortable, we could not wait for the mornings to get out of the beds.
We did not try their breakfast as it was not included in the room rate and costs 10 euros - ridiculously high, considering you can dine with wine in Malaga for 10 euros. And there are plenty of cafes around to try something more authentic than some generic breakfast.
Another very negative point was the entry to the hotel: the entrance door was closed all the time, even during the day, so you have to ring the bell for someone at the reception to open the door for you. Once we had to wait for 5 minutes constantly ringing the bell as there was no-one at the reception. We noticed later on that it happened not only to us. Common areas on all the floors (apart from the ground floor) had a very dirty, worn-out and very unpleasant looking carpets, some lights did not work.
The only positive thing about this hotel is the location (but old Malaga is very compact anyway), all the rest was just very old and unpleasant.
We regret we believed the positive reviews of this hotel and chosen to stay there. It was a big mistake!

Definitely in the heart of malaga. Room did have lovely shower, beds so so, felt a little like being in a cell as window was very high up, had to stand on bed to look out at cathedral. Room was small. Fine for 1 or 2 nights. We had 2 others in our party, we'd paid the same and booked the 2 rooms together and theirs was significantly better.

Just back from a 3 night stay at this Hotel...Its all about location, location, location with this gem of a hotel. Situated in the centre of old Malaga and the pedestrian shopping squares. Everything is within easy walking distance 10 mins to harbour and beach. Room we had was room 403 the one featured in the brochure with an amazing view of the Cathederal which lit up at night is awesome Was at the back of Hotel so very quite .Beds were comfortable, clean and maid service everyday. Staff were very helpful and although we didn't have breakfast at the Hotel it looked ok. This is a great hotel with lots of charm and character. Will be returning.

Room Tip: Room 403 for an amazing view of the Cathederal

This hotel is close to the centre of old Malaga and the shooping area. Street noise was not too bad, but the beds were the worst we experienced in Spain.
We had booked a double room - and got 2 single beds pushed together - still with all the single sheets etc on them! The mattresses were so hard, the wooden floor would have been as comfortable.
The emergency light in the room was very bright.
Wifi was good.
Location was great, within easy walking of the central attractions. Breakfast was easy to find in the surrounding areas and tapas and pintxos was also within an easy stroll of the hotel.
Good location, as long as you don't mind the beds!

Just back from a fabulous week exploring Malaga. This hotel is very centrally placed but lovely and quiet. My friend and I had a super twin room and found it to be of a very high standard. Nothing was too much trouble for the friendly Reception staff. The bed linen and towels were changed daily. Breakfast choice extensive and a very good quality. We would totally recommend this lovely hotel - a high tech hotel in an old building which really delivers.
