Description: This emblematic wine cellar built in an old house from the 18th century is a meeting place for people of all ages. It has welcomed many generations of artists, flamenco dancers or politicians. It is named after formerly popular city figures called 'los pimpis', young people who had helped ship crews or passengers and had become the first city guides. It is furnished in the style of Malaga, and offers local wines and delicious gastronomy which is very popular in the city. The soul of the restaurant is the lounge with the vintage wine barrels, signed by famous people, such as the family Picasso, the painter Barcelo, the bullfighter Cordobes, The Duchess of Alba, Carmen Thyssen and Antonio Banderas, who show the historical value of this place. This establisment is in the old town of Malaga, next to the Museum Picasso, La Alcazaba (the Citadel of Malaga) and the Roman Theatre.

Very good authentic food is served here every day. Its very popular, and so very busy, great vibe, and not expensive either. If you come to malaga, your trip wouldnt be complete without coming here.

“Waste of time going to this tourist trap”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 July 2014 via mobile

Two stars for this hyped up tourist trap. It's what you expect really and we should have known better. Some people like the type of place where you wait 20 mins for a cramped table, get treated poorly by the overworked waiter, get mediocre food dumped on the table and are shepherded in and out like cattle...but not me. There's a place like this in every city, one of those "need to go" places. El Pimpi is no better or worse than the rest of them, it's just they're all like this. Like a fast food joint that charges you 50 euros for a meal and gives you dodgy wine with your cold mcnuggets. The misanthropic side of me wants to blame the other customers, the waiters, the management etc but the paranoid narcissist side knows the fault lies with me in choosing to go in the first place. For that I can only apologise...mainly to my wife.

“Deserve a visit!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2014 via mobile

I typed on google "nice place to eat in Malaga" and El Pimpi came out so I decided to visit it with my husband. The place is very folkroristic and reflects all the essence of Malaga traditions, is like a museum where you can find pieces of antiquity but on a vogue ambience. On the wall you can spot pictures of Spanish celebrities who visited the place, corrida old manifestos and the very characteristic wine's barrel signed by famous people. They have menus in all the languages, there is a large selections of tapas and dishes, we opted to try few tapas; ensalada de pimientos and smoked fish toast pieces were very nice but the tortilla de patatas was delicious! The waiter was friendly although it was very busy. Prices are reasonable. If I'll back in Malaga in the future I'd have no hesitation to visit it again. Sometimes it's not just about food...

“Busy but highly effective and organised”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2014

We were referred by a local contact. El Pimpi is a large restaurant frequented by locals and tourists alike. Good food, and friendly atmosphere and is very efficiently run as well as being in the old town area. We would definitely return.

“Great location and lovely food”

Went to this place twice. I loved the squid. They also have a large menu of fun drinks. They have a large outdoor seating area, but also have beautiful indoor (more romantic) dining. Good people watching place.
