This second floor apartment is perfectly located on Plaza de la Merced. The plaza is a lovely place to sit and watch the business of the neighbourhood and is surrounded by many bars, restaurants and shops. On one corner is the market itself, where you can sample and buy some local produce. From the apartment, most things you will want to see or do are within a short walk. The ample town buses stop right at the corner with Calle Victoria and these will take you where you want to go or allow you to connect for trips further afield.
The apartment is quiet, spacious and airy. It is an internal flat, which means the natural light comes from the central patio, beyond the hallway and bathroom, and the bedroom windows, which face onto an alley between buildings. There are no windows in the lounge/kitchen/diner, so a lamp or light was needed to use this room, even in the morning. This presented no problem to us and was cosy and atmospheric. We were there in early to mid-March, so air-conditioning was unnecessary. Fans are available, as are heaters, neither of which we needed to use. The kitchen was well enough appointed for a holiday stay and all of the white goods functioned well and were in good order. The washing machine was very useful and there is an ample washing line available in the patio to dry clothes. Having well functioning WiFi was great for planning and keeping in touch. There is no TV.
There are two proper bedrooms. The large double has two floor to ceiling windows with French doors opening onto Juliet balconies, and all the furniture and storage needed; it was cool and comfortable. The smaller twin-bedded room is big enough for two adults to sleep and store their things and has one window the same as the double. Although the wooden shutters did not fully close, they kept out the light very well and provided an additional screen against the usual night noise of a busy city. The apartment can sleep up to six people, with an additional double bed settee in the lounge area. This could work for a family but could feel a bit crowded, otherwise.
The bathroom is very snug, with a half bath as the shower tray, but perfectly functional. Everything was clean and well set up for our arrival and was easy to manage and maintain during our stay. There were plenty of towels and bedding and fresh ones were offered in addition.
Communication with our hosts, Pablo and Marisa, was clear and easy, before and during our stay. The booking was simple and they sent very clear instructions on how to get to and access the apartment, including accommodating our very late arrival! They responded quickly and efficiently to any problems or queries and were able to provide additional items we requested with no fuss. They were pleasant and charming to deal with, unobtrusive when we did not need them but readily available when we did, so thanks to them for making our stay in Malaga such a pleasure.
This is an old apartment with all the charm and limitations of a building of its age. What you lose in terms of an open view of the plaza, being internal, you gain in peace and being part of the day to day life behind this grand old building. It is very well located in a lovely part of town and we would certainly stay here again.
The apartment is spacious for 6 people and is located in the center so you have all type of shops you need and the beach is 5 minutes walking. In addition, the apartment is quite and the landlords are very nice.
