“Five Star?”
Reviewed 31 May 2014

The location, buildings and gardens are extremely good, I liked my junior suite (despite not being in the requested location). The tennis centre is very good.
The reason the hotel doesn't reflect its five star rating is the patchy service. This varied from very helpful and efficient to indifferent and on occasion quite surly.
There is also a fine line between five star prices and extortion when it comes to restaurants/drinks and other services. Personally I felt the line was crossed. I see in some previous reviews the manager replied that they would review it but this doesn't appear to be the case. If you are going to charge top dollar you absolutely have to deliver the goods and service to that level.
There also needs to be a 'can do' attitude...I heard 'not possible' more than once to some simple requests. Why make something easy for the guest?
For couples/families this is a very nice resort. Solo travellers are clearly an anomaly and thinking outside of the box doesn't seem to be part of the ethos.
I don't understand why some of the restaurants are only open on certain days thereby limiting the dining choices - it was the end of May and the hotel was busy.
Overall, the hotel has the potential to be fantastic but in my opinion is not there yet.

Room Tip: Top floor junior suite was bright. The ground floor/ subterranean rooms might be rather gloomy.

Dear Guest,

Despite your generally positive comments ,we are sad we did not quite live up to your expectations.

Our staff try to be courteous at all times and we would follow up on individuals if you feel they were "surly". We have duly noted your remarks and will strive to improve our service further to achieve that "top Dollar" feeling you mention.

Thank you again for your concerns and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to Puente Romano.

We stayed in Puente Romano Beach Resort and had a brilliant time. We stayed in the family room. Only problem was the l
Kids bed was in the living room but overall nice room.
Hotel is spreadout but clean... no disturbance. The room is like a mini apartment but only missing a kettle for complimentary beverages but view from balcony amazing.
Great weekend break we had with our 7year old who loved the swimming pool and 5 min walk away the sea with complimentary towels. Great massage on beach as well as great staff.

This is a beautiful resort. It is huge and we were constantly getting lost trying to find our room. But our room was big with all the amenities you would expect from a 5-star resort. The biggest negative is that it is about a 10 minute drive to the actual town of Marbella. In fact, unless you want to eat your meals at the resort (and you'd better bring lots of money to do that!) you have to drive everywhere. The breakfast buffet is indeed impressive (caviar and champagne), but for 35 Euros per person it had better be. I personally didn't think breakfast was worth that much money.

We ate one night at Serafina and thought the food was wonderful.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are pleased that you enjoyed the Hotel and the facilities in the room and the space, which is always very important for all the guests.

The distance from the Hotel to the centre of Marbella is about 5 minutes by car of course some people rather be in the Centre, that is a matter of opinion and must be respected. However we have tried to provide the guests a great variety of gastronomic choices that most prefer to stay in the Resort.

Thank you again for your positive comments. We will always try to be flexible and assist you, if you wish to visit us in the future, would be a pleasure to welcome you personally.

Just got back from a lovely weekend in Marbella. This hotel is the perfect place for fun and relaxation. Large rooms, great restaurants (the tapas bar was amazing) & helpful staff. The highlight was the breakfast buffet, which is the best I've ever seen in any hotel!

Had a fabulous stay as always, shown various rooms before we booked in. Nothing too much trouble in this place. The Hotel is very spread out and room service is very efficient even if it is a bucket of ice. The atmosphere at the New Years Eve Party was amazing, probably worth coming to Spain on its own! Thoroughly recommend this Hotel the standards never drop.

My husband and I have just returned from a 5 night stay to get some much needed r&r. There are many positives to this hotel; good spacious rooms that are kept scrupulously clean, fantastic breakfast, pleasant grounds, good central location for Marbella or Puerto Banus with taxis always available outside, lovely beachside location and very good pool service. However we did not get our much needed rest as there is no soundproofing between rooms. That is no problem if your neighbours are considerate and keep similar hours to you, however if like us your upstairs neighbour is awake between the hours of 2:30-5:30am most nights it results in several sleepless nights and the inconvenience of needing to repack to move rooms. We also experienced slow bar service (in all 3 hotel bars we visited) overly high prices (8Euro for 0.5l of water at the casual pool bar) and mistakes with our bills by the bar staff (which we had to get amended on 3 separate occasions in 5 days)

Room Tip: Block d overlooks the main pool and was quieter than block b
