Gran Melia Don Pepe

Reviewed 22 March 2014 via mobile

Located on the edge of Marbella town which is great for peace and quiet but not too far to walk to lively areas. The view over the gardens and out to sea are stunning. Only a couple of gripes stopped me giving a 5 star. On the first day a cleaner decided to clean outside our room in the early hours. The second morning a guest above left at 4am after an hour of racket. The breakfast was reasonable but the cooked section was basic, especially with an absent chef on most mornings. I did read a review about a random family in the bar area. I believe I had the misfortune of their company. The lad ran riot and treated us to a drum solo with the cutlery etc. Your bar staff should stop this even if they know these inconsiderate people. The staff are very attentive and helpful and yes we love you too. Will stay again.

Dear Miguel198,

Greetings from Gran Meliá Don Pepe!

Thank you very much for your feedback. As you mention, the views and location of our beautiful property are two of our greatest strengths.
Unfortunately regarding your comments regarding the noises coming from the room above yours, there is not much we could have done. Definitely, i have already informed our Housekeeping Director about the timing to clean the corridors. At Gran Meliá Don Pepe, to respect the tranquility of our guest is a must, so i do apologize for this inconvenience.

Our breakfast is as well another of our top strenghts, therefore i will write below my e-mail address so that you can let me know about your breakfast preferences and wishes on your next visit and it will be our pleasure to serve you again. We are completely flexible and always go the mile beyond to satisfy all our guests needs.

My wife and I have just returned from a 3 night stay arriving 1st March 2014. We had booked a Premium Sea View Room including breakfast. The room, 317, was almost facing due south, wonderful panoramic view of the hotel gardens and the sea from the ample balcony. Very comfortable bed and well equipped bathroom, plenty of wardrobe space and more than enough hangers. The hotel has a lovely contemporary style in all of the public areas with mellow jazz music playing throughout the day. Breakfast is taken at the LA DAMA DE NOCHE restaurant with beautiful views over the gardens. Excellent food and service. The hotel is very well located just 15 minutes from Orange Square and less than 10 minutes to the marina and all of those wonderful seafront restaurants. We did eat at the 'T-Bone' restaurant at the hotel which was really wonderful. Service is fantastic and the food, wines and service divine and very, very reasonably priced. All in all we had a truly memorable stay and very much look forward to visiting again very soon. Also many thanks to the hotel's secret weapon, Abel Lopez, Red Glove Service Manager, who made us so very welcome and valued. The hotel is undergoing some improvements and refurbishments, which did not impact on our stay, that will ensure that it retains its 5 star status. Our only criticism is that as a 5 star hotel coffee/tea making facilities together with irons and ironing boards should be provided in all rooms. Needless to say however that one phone call would result in these items being delivered immediately to the
room.

Room Tip: Seaview balcony rooms are worth every Euro

Spent with my wife a short break at the Costa del Sol to play golf. For our stay we chose the Don Pepe. Our stay was a great experience. The house despite its 50 years is in excellent condition just on the beach of Marbella. We enjoyed most the warm and nice service by everyone in the hotel.

Room Tip: Choose a room with sea view.

We chose the Melia Don Pepe because of its location with a view of the Mediterranean. We enjoyed sitting on our balcony with a glass of wine watching the sun set. Through a gate, there is access to the promenade along the Mediterranean and the beach. In January, the only restaurants open were the main dining room and Cappuccino on the promenade. Our room was very attractive but we found it over-crowded with furniture which made it seem smaller and there really wasn’t a convenient work area for a computer. We found the hotel and food a bit pricey but this is to be expected in Marbella.

I am so shocked to read one of the review here, that included unnecessary remarks about a staff member at the hotel that I have to comment. I am about to review another hotel nearby in Marbella, and was so impressed with what I saw of the Gran Melia hotel,l I was checking out trip advisor to make a booking. Somebody recommended the hotel to me as I was staying nearby, so I decided to have a look around the foyer and grounds.I was so impressed, that I immediately texted my friends to say how magnificent I thought the whole ambience of the outside space was and they should visit it before leaving Marbella. Obviously I didn't see the inside of the rooms, with the atmosphere that the decor exuded, it felt like the caribbean, one area had white table and chairs with palm trees swaying nearby, great views of the coastline, no highrise. Steps lead down to the beautiful promenade which is even more upmarket than I remembered from a previous visit. Now that the Cappuccino Rest.chain has opened right on the prom. overlooking the ocean there is a real luxury vibe to the area, they are right at the entrance to the steps from the Gran Melia. I was waiting to speak to a receptionist and witnessed and american tourist being very nasty to the female staff member. I don't believe the hotels in the costa del sol need business so badly that they should tolerate abnoxious behaviour from guests. Courtesy works both ways!!

Very nice, relaxing hotel venue. Excellent restaurant. Premium Room very good (a little small maybe). We both had minor stomach upsets whilst here, but we don't know where we picked it up from and can't say that it stopped us from enjoying our stay.

Room Tip: Choose a Premium room - you'll get a wonderful sea view.
