“good budget hotel”
Reviewed 29 April 2014

Having never been to marbella we were unsure about what is a good location. If you are looking for the area that has the fancy yachts and cars and also the strip of bars such as linekers and o,Grady's then you need to book the Puerto banus area. This hotel is in central marbella which is perfect location for old town, beach, shopping and lots of tapas restaurants. A walk through the old town is a must. If you want to go to puerto banus there is a bus stop behind the hotel which will take you for just over a euro or you can get the ferry which is also nice for sailing into the harbour for just over 8 euro

Hotel itself was clean and comfortable and staff were helpful. There is a roof terrace and pool which was great for lazing in the evening sun.

The food was OK but sometimes lukewarm so I wouldn't book full board unless you are getting it at a cheap price.

If eating out in Puerto banus then there is a restaurant on the harbour that is very reasonable called Picasso. Pizzas, pastas burgers etc. For birthdays etc they will dim the lights and bring out cake to special theme tunes. A bit like Frankie and bennies restaurants.

Would I return to this hotel - yes

We were originally staying out of town at a larger complex. However, this turned out to be an awful experience so we managed to get in at el rodeo. They were brilliant, let us check in early, gave us countless information on places to eat and taxis and beaches. We got a top floor room, clean as a whistle. No real sea view but gorgeous scenes when the sun sets behind the mountain. Breakfast is continental and quirky, perfect for trying new things. Loads of pastries and warm bread rolls too. The beach is a two or three minute stroll away, and is a gorgeous beach. Ten minutes in a taxi or bus to puerto banus or a two minute walk to the beachfront and the same to the old town, the location could not be better. Would have been hard to find but our taxi driver knew where it was. At night there is a large neon sign so you can't miss it. Would definitely recommend this to anyone and everyone!

Apologies to all TripAdvisor reviewers! This review is long over-due. We stayed in El Rodeo July 2013. I was anxious re' the mixed reviews when booking, but found the staff in reception (Francois) helpful. We found the hotel to be just around the corner from a lovely park & best of all, only 5mns + from beach & great tapas bars & restaurants. It is the same distance from the Orange Square in Old Town which we found quite expensive to eat. We had originally planned to go just B&B but after paying over-rated prices up in Old Town,(just didn't suit our budget but the aromas at night-time were always mouth-watering), we stuck to the tapas bars & restaurants on the way to the beach from El Rodeo. We also ate in the hotel 3 evenings when we didn't feel like wandering around looking for a nice eatery after spending a long day on the beach! The waiters in the hotel were very courteous & helpful & the food was tasty & very reasonable. We loved Marbella & had some great chats with the staff/Casa Lola who were doing tapas & Flamenco (on the way to beach from El Rodeo) Hello to Xavi? I hope your business is doing well.We always stopped also at La Dehesa (Tapas Bar} lovely staff who didn't mind my Irish/Spanish effort at speaking Espanola..
While eating breakfast, we were people watching: business people & residents walking the tree-lined avenue going about their daily business. People do live & work in Marbella. The streets around El Rodeo was like a mini-paris from our breakfast window.
If you want a value for money hotel with fair fare in a fantastic location.. book El Rodeo now. You won't ger better value. I forgot to mention the rooftop pool where I had a quick dip 5 out of the 7 days there. The pool area should be revamped as it's so unique in the middle of a working town... eiram

Room Tip: We stayed on the floor under the pool and because I'm a light sleeper..I always worry about thi...

Stayed for 4 nights in October 2013 with a friend in a twin en suite room. The front desk staff are very helpful. The restaurant staff were a little on the surly/unfriendly side but still efficient. Would just be nice to receive 'service with a smile'!
The building is pretty dated and could benefit from a renovation. However, the room, bathroom and balcony (no sea views) were immaculately clean and the domestic staff very helpful. There are no tea/coffee facilities in the rooms so take your own travel kettle. There is a fridge, tv with a couple of English channels and air con/heat unit. There IS a free wifi service BUT it only works fully on the restaurant/bar level and not in the rooms.there is a lovely little rooftop pool with 2 sunbathing decks and a bar. As we were just out of season the pool bar was closed but it would be great in the summer.
I'm not sure how nice it would be to stay here in high season. I'd say the hotel was probably less than 2/3rds full during our stay which was really nice.
We had a half board booking which included breakfast and/OR lunch/dinner. Breakfast was FABULOUS! I was surprised to find they offer one of the best 'English fry ups' I've ever found abroad! A choice of boiled, scrambled or fried eggs, delicious sausages, bacon(more like thinly cut fried over spanish ham but still very nice!), mushrooms and PROPER baked beans! Also various cereals, croissants, rolls, toast, fruits and a choice of 4 fruit juices, tea or coffee. Lunch and dinner meals were pretty much interchangeable and although perfectly adequate, not very inspiring.
The location is excellent. Sits behind the main road through Marbella and about a 5 minute walk to Orange Square and 5 minutes to the beach front. This was a perfect short stay hotel and I will definitely be staying there again this year!

We were after an inexpensive short break late Autumn break, and so booked into this hotel knowing that it would be reasonably basic.

On the upside, the hotel is well located for the old town, the main drag and the beach, and is just off a pretty piazza. The reception staff were very friendly, and our room was spacious with perfectly acceptable facilities (good shower, TV with BBC1 and BBC News). On the downside, the beds, curtains and furniture were pretty old and breakfast, whilst OK, wasn't great.

On balance the hotel was fine for the price and location, but i wouldnt recommend it for anyone planning to spend any significant amount of time in their room other than asleep. Good base for exploring Marbella on a budget

I stayed here for 1 week in October this year. The hotel is clean, the rooms are comfortable and the hotel is very central : a five minute walk to the lovely Venus beach and five minutes walk to the lovely old town . The rooftop pool could do with re - furbishment and the hotel tends to be a bit noisy : my room overlooked a taxi rank but despite this I would return as the best aspect of this hotel is the warm, helpful and welcoming staff.

Room Tip: Do not book a room overlooking the taxi rank.

I have stayed at the El Rodeo twice this summer for weekend breaks, the first time being June with 2 girlfriends, and the second time in October with my mum. I will definitely be going back for a third time next year!!!! Don't get me wrong, the first time we pulled up outside in the taxi I was thinking 'what on earth?' as it's on a commercial street hidden by shops and is easy to miss!!! There's no grand entrance or fancy furnishings, but what you do get is a clean, functional, friendly and ideally situated hotel - 5 minutes walk from both the sea front and Orange Square. The food is adequate - we paid about £2pppn extra to go half board instead of bed and breakfast so can't complain - and you can take lunch instead of evening meal which is perfect as there are an abundance of restaurants on the door step. The rooms and public areas are clean and there is a little rooftop swimming pool which wasn't busy either time that I stayed. I wouldn't bother looking at any other hotels in Marbella as this is perfect for my needs, it really is an excellent value for money accommodation in a fantastic location
