“A good base”
Reviewed 8 August 2014 via mobile

Rooms very basic as expected. Clean enough with new towels and beds made everyday. In a nice location with bars and restaurants and the beach on the door step. The pool was vile. Enough said.

If I was going again I would go self catering as the food around the hotel was cheap and the food they had wasn't up to much.

Taxis outside the hotel in to puerto banus 15euros. Obviously in puerto banus everything's mega expensive but great prices round this hotel.

Great location as in the heart of Marbs near fab beach and old town. Hotel entrance is in side road. Noisy outside at night but you get used to it. Great variety of food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Friendly staff. Nice big room with balcony, nice bathroom. Small swimming pool nice to use though. We had a very pleasant stay & would recommend for a good deal.

I stayed at El Rodeo as part of a Hen party in May 2014.

We arrived around 7pm and we're dropped off by our transfer on the Main Street, we were then pointed down a side street to the hotel. The hotel is lit up by a big pink sign so hard to miss it but it is in between a few shops.

Upon check in we were given 3 rooms on the 4th floor and 2 on the 5th. I had read about noise from the street below but this is not something that was loud enough to cause me any lack of sleep. The room itself was basic and cleaned everyday. You were also able to rent a safe at reception for a fee. The only issues we had with the rooms are 2 of our party woke up to a big leak in the bathroom ceiling but once reception were told it was fixed very quickly.

The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the beach and it costs around 15 euros for a taxi into a Peutro Banus, the taxi rank is at the end if the street so very convenient.

As we were there for 3 days for a hen party, it suited our needs perfectly!

Would return again.

If you are arriving at night via Urbis Transfers you should be advised you will be dropped off in a dark side road and not shown to this hotel even if you are ladies on your own.

Arrived at the hotel in early hours to be greeted by the receptionist who ignored us and carried on a phone conversation for around twenty minutes without aknowledging us. As it was around 2am by this point we had to interrupt him in the end to get any attention. We were tired and just wanted our room it was very poor customer service and incredibly rude . The receptionist then proceeded to bash his computer keyboard muttering he couldnt get the system to work or find our room. We were alarmed at this point and asked if we could just have any quiet room please ! He threw a random key at us and gave us no instructions re meal times or the hotel. He said he was unable to help us with getting the safe and we would have to arrange it the next day. So we worried all night about our valuables being in the room.

Our room was based on the second floor directly above the town main taxi rank and it was Saturday evening. We had screaming and shouting and taxi noise from arrival at 2am until 7.30am and this was our requested " quiet room". I had to visit the reception at 8am to request an alternative room which was not available until lunchtime and meant the inconvenience of moving all our bags and stuff up to the sixth floor. This meant we lost a morning of our holiday sorting out and resolving this issue. We asked to see the manager but were told she wasnt in to subsequently find her giving us a key at lunchtime ! The hotel only has rooms on ones side which faces the road a fact to consider when booking.

Breakfast and the restaurant is an experience especially if your British you will be treated with utter contempt, ignored and disrespected by all the staff. We watched spanish/italian and french customers being chatted to and served quickly whilst we were greeted by no eye contact, ignored and not served for long delays. It was frustrating and an incredibly unsettling and horrible experience which made us feel we didn't want to spend any time in the restaurant unless we had to ! It was the same nasty attitude for every meal we had and as were customers i found it disgusting this was accceptable the management. The staff would do well to remember the british customers are there bread and butter and paying to keep the hotel going at the end of the day.

As far as the food:- Breakfast fried eggs sit in grease in containers without being replenished for hours. Food is re-served on several days the same items of desert and main reappeared and were reheated. Chips have been refried and cooked so they are like bullets so watch your teeth. The food is boring unappetising and very limited. Some salad, cold chips, chicken and fruit and icecream. I would not recommend the half board option ! Save your money and eat in town.

The pool on the roof is dated with grotty green astroturf the bar is never used, there is no music or atmosphere. Its a waste of time really.

The only redeeming feature of this unprofessional hotel is the location which is central. The room was reasonably clean but we received no soap or hand towels after the first day.No one and i mean no one of the staff is willing to commmunicate in english if you wish to ask for an item which is very difficult and frustrating. I asked three times for a extra pillow before eventually days later getting one.

In summary it reminded me of fawlty towers with bad organisation, no communication no care for customer service and down right ignorant staff i will never return and have made sure others know of my experience here !

Room Tip: Ask for sixth floor if you have to go ! Dont have second floor over taxi rank way too noisey

Many thanks, for your comments; we regret did not fill your expectancies.
As you can read in the most part of comments about our hotel, the friendliness of our staff is one of our main assets, we will check what you are reporting to us.
Although we do not charge any suplement for allocation and we offer to the clients to move to another room, on weekends, due to the high occupancy is really difficult.
Regarding the food, we appreciate your comments, we do not keep any bad report about the food on that dates, but we will check it with our kitchen staff.
Best regards

I considered this hotel to be excellent value for money, and the location was just what I wanted. It is a 2/3 minute walk in one direction to the beach and 2/3 minutes in the other direction to the old town. The whole area felt safe and I saw many patrolling police. I like walking and walked to Puerto Banus on the road and back again on the seafront path. It takes about an hour. I paid only a few pounds extra to go half board assuming the drinks would be expensive and the food just basic and I could always eat out if I wanted. I was wrong, I was charged only two euros for a large glass of wine and the food was very very good. The service was good and so was the reception, the room clean and overall I would rate it high for a three star hotel. I have had breakfasts in four star hotels of the same standard and below. The wifi is free and good on the restaurant/bar floor but can be paid for in the rooms.
HOWEVER there are things to be aware of. This is not a beach resort hotel and the roof top pool is basic. I was given a high floor, there is some street noise but it is not a main road. Towards the Easter weekend I presume the night clubs became popular with Spaniards and tourists alike and I could hear them returning to their accommodation and parked cars at 4 in the morning. The room walls are also not very soundproofed. Again towards the Easter weekend the hotel was busier and I could hear the people next door. Bearing these facts in mind I would still recommend this hotel and I would return especially in the low season.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room on a high floor, the reception staff are helpful.

Having never been to marbella we were unsure about what is a good location. If you are looking for the area that has the fancy yachts and cars and also the strip of bars such as linekers and o,Grady's then you need to book the Puerto banus area. This hotel is in central marbella which is perfect location for old town, beach, shopping and lots of tapas restaurants. A walk through the old town is a must. If you want to go to puerto banus there is a bus stop behind the hotel which will take you for just over a euro or you can get the ferry which is also nice for sailing into the harbour for just over 8 euro

Hotel itself was clean and comfortable and staff were helpful. There is a roof terrace and pool which was great for lazing in the evening sun.

The food was OK but sometimes lukewarm so I wouldn't book full board unless you are getting it at a cheap price.

If eating out in Puerto banus then there is a restaurant on the harbour that is very reasonable called Picasso. Pizzas, pastas burgers etc. For birthdays etc they will dim the lights and bring out cake to special theme tunes. A bit like Frankie and bennies restaurants.

Would I return to this hotel - yes

We were originally staying out of town at a larger complex. However, this turned out to be an awful experience so we managed to get in at el rodeo. They were brilliant, let us check in early, gave us countless information on places to eat and taxis and beaches. We got a top floor room, clean as a whistle. No real sea view but gorgeous scenes when the sun sets behind the mountain. Breakfast is continental and quirky, perfect for trying new things. Loads of pastries and warm bread rolls too. The beach is a two or three minute stroll away, and is a gorgeous beach. Ten minutes in a taxi or bus to puerto banus or a two minute walk to the beachfront and the same to the old town, the location could not be better. Would have been hard to find but our taxi driver knew where it was. At night there is a large neon sign so you can't miss it. Would definitely recommend this to anyone and everyone!
