Myself, partner, 2 other couples and 2 young children stayed at the villa for a week in July 2013 and overall had a very enjoyable holiday. The booking process was very easy and the owner was happy to provide advice and answer any questions we had. We did have a few issues however which I have covered below.
Location: The villa is located about 10 minutes drive up the hill from Puerto Banus through La Campana village with restaurants, bars and a good sized supermarket. Although you can walk to the edge of La Campana village in about 10 minutes from the villa, you really do need a car to get to the supermarket and to Puerto Banus/Marbella etc.
Villa: If I'm being honest, the villa itself doesn't have the wow factor I was hoping for. Downstairs there is a good sized kitchen with a second fridge which was handy, small cloakroom and a good sized living room with sofas and dining table and chairs, though we never ate indoors. Upstairs there is a large bedroom with kingsize bed, sofa and en suite. This was ideal for one of the couples and their 2 year old with a pop up single bed provided in addition. The second bedroom was a double with enough room for a cot for the 1 year old. The third bedroom was a twin and also a good size, with plenty of storage in all the bedrooms. There was also a family bathroom on this floor. The furnishings are all fine, nothing special, though it is very much lived in with 'stuff' thrown in all the drawers like you would find in your own home rather than a rented villa. The cleanliness of the villa when we arrived was disappointing, with a layer of dust on everything - the owner subsequently advised we were the first visitors of the season, however it did detract from first impressions.
Outside: This is where the wow factor was for us. The villa itself has an amazing roof terrace with comfortable outdoor seating, a dining table and chairs, washing machine and drying area and sunbathing area. There is also a TV with sky and a sound system with ipod dock. We spent the majority of our mealtimes and evenings up here. A word of warning however, there was only one light on the side of the building. When it got dark we had to light a few candles to avoid sitting in the pitch black.
There is also a patio/terrace area with dining furniture on the ground floor accessed from the living room. This leads straight onto a grassy area where we had enough loungers for all of us and there was sun all day. We were also right next to the pool which was shared with around 12 other villas built round the pool. Even at this time of year however, only a few of the other villas were occupied so it did feel like we had the pool to ourselves much of the time.
There is also secure parking available - there was only one night when we arrived back quite late that we had to park the 2 cars by the roadside, though it seemed very quiet anyway.
We did have a few problems in general during our stay. The electricity randomly went off on our first night there. There is a number to call on the fuse box in emergencies which we did. Luckily the guy came out, but advised this was as a goodwill gesture as he no longer worked for the owner as he was owed quite a bit of money. He flicked a few switches and the electricity came back on. Having contacted the owner, he advised an electrician would be round the next day to look into it. The electricity went off a few more times that evening, but we were able to get it back on by flicking the same switch. The next morning, the first guy returned to check on us, but also looking for money for fixing the problem the day before. We refused and luckily he left and didn't return. It took the new electrician a further two callouts to finally fix the problem, with intermittent breaks in the electricity during this time. We still aren't entirely sure what the problem was. We were also quite annoyed upon our return to still have the £25 electricity charge deducted from our security deposit after all these issues.
We had also paid additional monies to remain in the villa during our last day due to a late flight. We were a bit panicked when the cleaner turned up advising that someone was checking in at lunchtime. This was all resolved and the new guests came to drop off their luggage and left us to it, but not the stress you want to have at the end of your holiday, especially with a 1 and 2 year old in the group.
All in all we had a great stay. Not sure if we were unlucky with the issues we had with the cleaning/electricity/unexpected guests, but I don't think we would choose to return to this particular villa despite the amazing terrace. This will be on our wishlist wherever we do go next year though!
