BlueBay Banus
Ranked #34 of 70 Hotels in Marbella
Reviewed 8 July 2014 via mobile

We were a group of 12 travelling from Scotland, the Midlands and Wales and Malaga was the only airport we stumbled across that our flights landed roughly the same time. We found rooms in the Blue Bay Banús, half board and 3 sharing.

First impressions when we pulled up was a nice big modern hotel. Staff at reception were fabulous, friendly and helpful.

Our rooms were immaculate and big enough for four to share with two large double bedrooms and a huge bathroom and walk in wardrobe we couldn't have asked for more. When we found a fridge cleverly disguised as a cupboard we were even more ecstatic. Nothing worse than like warm water the morning after the night before!

The food (breakfast and evening meal were included in the price) was amazing. Extra large self serve buffet with selection a plenty to suit every pallet. The snack bar at lunch time was also reasonable serving great lunches.

There were two pools which I will say in late June were young and lively, which suited us as a large group of girls but may not suit everyone.

It was reasonably central - walking distance to puerto Banús by day (in flip flops) but in heels it was a taxi ride away. Only 8€ each way though so between 4 of you it hardly broke the bank.

We paid 50€ to keep one room on for the whole day as we had late flights home but between 12 of us a base to keep out cases and shower before home. The maids have us all clean towels to use later that day - you can't ask for more than that to be fair.

Would return to the hotel and recommend to anyone that's travelling to Marbella.

I would return to this 2 tiered 4 star half board option hotel, I was on a 3 day stag weekend and find it really hard to find major faults, access to the room from reception was out through the front doors, left to the shop, left down a side path then up 2 short flights of steps, my major fault is the fuse board in the stairwell was not locked, inquisitive and stupid could combine and become fatal!

I was room 622 and was happy with triple superking sized bed, never tried the double, bedding and towels changed daily, and reasonably clean, a couple of fittings throughout the decent sized 2 room + bathroom were damaged, but didn't cause any problems, safe in the room was free, but I know from friends in another room had to pay €2 a day for a mechanical lock, there was a decent view from the balcony overlooking the small adult pool and the masseurs hut.
It was quiet enough to leave the balcony door open all night.

Returning through the lobby, access to the reasonably priced bar, at €2.50 a half pint of lager for a pre-dinner aperitif, whilst waiting for the restaurant to open at 7 pm. Which has the usual buffet style counters with some really nice food, I'd recommend the pork casserole.

Between the small pool and the larger pool, there is a grassed area with a stage for the animation team, who were non existent when I compare other hotels I've stayed in, as too another daytime only bar and a snack shack, the choice of food isn't extensive but if you want something with chips or between bread then it's ideal, the huge kidney shaped pool wasn't too cold, but when you've been in temperatures in the high 20's, it is a welcoming way to cool down, sun loungers go quickly, but many are claimed by selfish people who have no intention of using them until later in the day, the pool and grounds were always immaculate at the start of the day, which is a testimony to the effort the friendly staff put in.

Overall this hotel is what it is, and reflective in the slightly higher price you pay, the setting is either a €8 taxi trip or a 20 minute walk to the beach at Porto Banus, or a €14 taxi trip or a 40+ to Marbella, Porto has plenty of eateries and Jimmy men flogging the same old tatt, but not so in your face as other Spanish resorts, nightlife in Banus is geared up for Stag and Hen parties, but not much option for children, whereas Marbella is a little better for families, I preferred Porto overall, thanks for reading.

I travelled with a group of seven. On arrival we were issued with our rooms, I was sharing with a close pal and when we entered the room we were faced with the double bed scenario, now we are good pals but there is a line !! I informed reception and was told all rooms were full and I should return in the morning to see if it was possible then. This was done at 12.00pm with little fuss, but as we had booked a twin it was a hotel mess up with only an apology, not even a drink offered.
The beds are just ok, its the pillows, there are softer bricks available !! shower fine and hairdryer Ltd power but just so you are aware.
Food, basic B/fast cereals / fruit / hot choice usual fatty bacon strange sausages eggs a plenty and fresh cooked beans / breads etc.. Enough to start the day..

Snack bar by pool isn't bad at all, good choice quick service but check your BILL, on two occasions there were items added from other table, on checking ours we shaved off over 18 euros' fortunately one of us was sober enough to work it out !!
Dinner good selection Hot and Cold and again enough choice to satisfy most fussy eaters. There are water vending machines when they work at 1.50 euros for 500ml, at the bar same bottle is 2 euros, however shop next door to reception at the front 1 litre for 2eros and a fridge in room, so best purchase there.
Pools are clean and 1 large one, no issue with loungers if you get there before 9.30am.

Entertainment poor, but we wernt there to play bowls !!

Overall a good base away from Puerto Bunus so not noisey, main road at front of hotel is a M/way. To get to town plenty of Taxis avg 7 euros for the journey.
Main strip by marina as you would expect pricey, but worth it. behind marina is another strip full of bars but not for the reserved tourists, this is the heavy drinking bars clubs and full of Hens and stags and prostitutes, just so you know..you will be approached by them, nothing heavy a smile and no thanks is usually enough, if you enter in conversation they will pursue you !! Word of warning guys, if you get hammered and then are start making your way back they will clock you and follow in pairs, they do grab and evidently if your wallet is available it will go !!

Good for a groups long w/end, but not for couples or families in my opinion.

We stayed at Bluebay banus from 3rd of July to 6th July for my hen weekend when we arrived we checked in at 11am and are rooms where ready straight away which was brilliant.

We went to the beach club which is advertised as Bluebay banus and it's a short walk from the hotel when we got there there was not many beds left but we was also surprised that we had to pay €7 for the beds! As we where guest of the hotel we thought that we would not have to pay for the sun loungers! There also wasn't any drink service on the beach.

When returning back to the room we was greeted by a cockroach! The rooms are a lovely size, but when we come to get ready to find that the plug sockets were missing the covers so there was exposed metal and the sockets we're live this was the case for 2 sockets in the main area one of the sockets had no cover at all we had to cover them to stop from anyone being shocked as they were in the main dressing area, the fuses were under rated as the mains sockets were on a 5 amp supply so the fuse kept blowing when we were using a hair dryer as this is a 13amp supply and it was overloading and we had the maintenance team out 5 times and they did not solve this issue which meant we were then drying our hair on the outside socket in the hall from the apartment as there hair dryer wasn't working either which was the most annoying thing, we rang numerous of times and finally on our final night the hair dryer had been fixed!

In one of the other rooms the toilet flooded the room and hallway! Everyone you put tissue down it and flush it would flood!

If you wish to spend the day round the pool I would recommend you to get up at 5am to be able to get a sun bed! On the grass area there are about 4 hot tubs which are not in use if they where then this would have been lovely. The pool area is nice there is a bar around the main pool but is shut!

Also the staff could be a bit happier there is a nice waiter Francisco is lovely the only one that seems to know how to smile.

When speaking to the man on reception Miguel when we explained we had a problem and complaint he said perfect! Didn't care and said take it up with your travel agent! No sorry or i will take up to manager

The ground in the hotel our lovely, location is good but you will need to get a taxi into the purto banus area. Overall it's a nice hotel but needs some looking after the breakfast and food is lovely.

Came here on a stag do, although there were plenty of stags and hen partys this hotel was rather quite not as i expected it to be, good sized pool, good sized rooms. Food at the pool bar good. Good location for going out into peurto banus taxi only 6 to 8 euros. Not really a family hotel but perfect for a weekend away.

Stayed this weekend with some friends on a weekend away and had been somewhat put off by the reviews on here. Decent location and terrific public areas (good pool) for the price paid. Very large rooms spread over the complex. Quite a "social" clientele - mainly groups of girls and guys between 25-45. No idiots and generally pretty good natured and everyone keen to enjoy themselves without being lairy or too vain. Restaurant staff not especially bubbly but its a pretty busy hotel in June and they were rushed off their feet. Would consider returning as perfect for a long weekend of socialising for a group aged between 33-45. Everyone very friendly.
