We stayed there when it was recently opened approx 4 years ago and the room standards were much higher and we couldn't fault it. It looks like the hotel has never been redcorated since but the prices are still rediculous for what you would expect and they wouldn't even let us use the spa free of charge as we only spent 1 night there.... thank God! The breakfast was the only saving grace as it was all fresh and a good choice. We would have been mega disappointed it we were staying longer or booked a holiday there.

My husband and I stayed in this hotel for 2 night break. What a disappointment! We were looking forward to a bit of luxury in both service and surroundings. The staff were verging on rude, rooms very poor for the money - we booked a sea view room and if you stood on tip toes and hung over the edge of the balcony you could just see a corner of sea! - we then upgraded and paid extra for a very average room. Sunloungers on the beach were old and tatty and not nearly enough of them. The web site looks good but oh, dear, someone needs to take a look at this place and set up a training programme for staff and check out the meaning of "luxury" and maybe then they will provide the 5 star service it boasts - would never return or recommend to anyone!

This hotel looks great on the website and had been recommended to us.

We arrived and the room we were allocated was smaller than the terrace which was dark.

On the beach the plastic sun beds were broken.

We booked spa treatments at the sister hotel and was told that the shuttle bus would take us there, this was also confirmed on the website. When we went to reception to ask what the time of the shuttle was we were told it had not run for over a year. When we confirmed that this was on the website and also that the spa had confirmed this, the manager of the front desk called the spa and shouted at the person on the other end of the phone in front of us.
When we asked for a taxi they said they could not organise this for us because taxis did not like coming to the hotel. Eventually after much confusion they drove us to the spa.

Later in the evening there was a crowd of about 15 people standing outside the hotel, some waiting 40 minutes for a taxi. Eventually when the crowd became larger with everyone waiting to go to Banus the manager came out and took everyone in the shuttle bus.

We checked out the following morning after only one night and checked into a much better hotel for only 35 euros more.

We would not recommend this hotel

I stayed at the Gran Hotel Guadalpin this year with my sister and parents and have to say it was a brilliant place to stay.

Located within a nice strolling distance for both old town Marbella, the beach and the promenade there is loads to see and do.

The hotel itself was very plush, always clean and enjoyable. The pool was perfect although the poolbar was deathly cold and difficult to sit in without the sun, which is hidden by the grotto like design. We sat by the pool everyday, were waited on hand and foot, as a fellow guest said, 'what more do you want'.

This is a great place for families and those looking for a relaxed but comfortable hotel. The 'bar' and restaurants really aren't that special so you are forced to explore, which, given its vicinity to old town Marbella, is actually a good thing. I couldn't find any internet room either, but now I'm just nitpicking.

A perfect upmarket destination for relaxing in the sun.

My husband and I stayed here for a few nights in the presidential suite. The hotel is right on the beach and our room had superb ocean views from the bedroom/balconies, etc. There was also a small kitchenette. The furniture, sofa cushions (inside and on the deck) are very tired. A true 5 star would not permit this. There are robes and slippers and the bathrooms are somewhat modern but the bed was not a true king sized bed (maybe between a king and a queen) and the bedroom completely lacked any decor. It was just a bed in a room with a dresser/nightstand and TV. That's it. The truth is, the prices don't really reflect that of a 5 star hotel anyway. That's the trade off. In fact, 2 weeks prior we upgraded to that suite because the prices had dropped.
The staff was very helpful, wonderful in fact. We were missing robes and extra pillows when we arrived and they sent them immediately. They would also park the car for you- 15 euros a day- and we'd take taxi's into Marbella or back from the marina of Puerto Banus where all the restaurants are. It's about 15 min. by taxi to Marbella and 5 to the marina. You can walk to the marina and we did twice but our shoes got full of sand because the last stretch really is on pure sand. There are some steps right before that area, but they were blocked off on our second try. The breakfast buffet was very good. Oh yes, and on checkout our bill showed that we'd taken chocolate and alcohol from the minibar which we most definitely had not. The receptionist promptly took it off our bill. Overall I'd say it's a good location and a very nice stay. Just don't expect a 5 star and you will be very pleased.
