“A great find just a few steps from the Old Town...”
Reviewed 22 April 2014

Tucked away on a quiet pedestrian street right on the edge of the Old Town and just a few minutes walk from the beautiful Orange Square, this is a surprisingly good two star hotel. With a good sized room, authentically decorated in a modern way, a full-sized bath and a large comfy bed. The staff were really friendly, cheerful and gave us some great recommendations for local tapas. Fantastic value for a great location.

We had read several unpleasant reviews of this hotel but as we had already phoned a number of others who wouldn't accept our chihuahua, we decided to just bite the bullet and stay here. First off, a warning...it is difficult to find but if you persist, it is well worth it! You can't drive down a street to it as it is on a historic pedestrian walkway. You have to drive along to Avenida Malaga and park along the side street heading towards the Mediterranean and its Playa de Venus. (The hotel has a 9-euro discount coupon they will give you to park in the underground parking lot of the Marbella Centro (some sort of shopping compound now under reconstruction). This is also right next to the Princesa Playa Hotel (huge highrise apartments). OK - now that you've parked, go back to the main street and across from the "clinico urgencia" you'll find San Ramon walkway. Walk halfway down past several pensiones and private homes and you'll find this jewel of a hotel. The lobby was furnished in lovely antiques and art and the desk clerk lady was extremely helpful and friendly. Our room was on the second floor (#314, I think) and altho not huge, it was decorated beautifully and featured a little balcony looking down on the private garden terraces for each ground-floor rooms below (we'll ask for one of those next time as they have tables you can sit out on and enjoy your morning coffee.) The bougainvilla flowering vines were already in bloom, curling up to our window to welcome us. We can't understand why some reviewers panned this place as we couldn't find a single speck of dust or dirt anywhere and there was plenty of hot water for the sumptuous shower. We couldn't figure out how to get the heat turned on and my husband went down in the elevator to ask and came back with great instructions. The desk lady called in 10 minutes to make sure we were warm. Breakfast was included in the 50-euro room and this was really a nice one including cheese, ham, muesli or cornflakes, toast, muffins, OJ, and the receptionist came over to ask if we would like some fried eggs. Already having had a Spanish-fried-egg experience (too well done in lots of olive oil), I asked if she could do scrambled and she replied, "With pleasure!" One of the best parts...they had a real American-type coffeemaker (the kind that holds about 24 cups) so we were able to have several cups before taking off.
I found out they had new owners 4 years ago (a woman named Olga and the last name is way too long to remember...some sort of Russian name, perhaps) and she had the entire place revamped with all new furnishings! We definitely recommend this hotel as long as you don't mind the needle-in-the-haystack treasure hunt to find it. We esp. loved the one-block walk down to the beach!

I stayed at the Hotel Central Marbella with a friend on New Year's Eve 2013. We chose this hotel as it was cheap and near to the Old Town and Orange Square, which is within walking distance - even in heels!

We received a friendly welcome from the lady at Reception. The room was very basic but the bed was comfortable and it was clean. However the shower pressure was very poor and the temperature was luke-warm at best.

The breakfast was very poor (overcooked eggs, ham, cheese and sliced bread- yes, that's it, and we were there at the start, at 9am).

They say there is a balcony but you can't really stand on it and the view was of someone's back courtyard.

I would stay here again, but expecting no frills and only for one night.

We arrived late in the night, but it was no problem as the hotel has 24 hour reception service. Only had a few problems with the man in the reception as he only spoke Spanish. But we got the key and the room was nice, clean and newly renovated - better than expected for a 2 star hotel. The stay was overall very nice, the only things we really missed was first of all a mini bar to cool down all the water that we bought because of the extreme heat (everybody needs to buy water in spain, but warm water is not delicious - hotel should have a possibility to cool it down). Second to that the cleaning could be better. The only things they do is to provide you with clean towels and make the bed, no real cleaning of bathroom sink, shelf and floor. Third; the location of the hotel is very nice, both close to old town and the beach, but if you really want to point fingers at one more thing, the location could be better (read: charming). The hotel was close to the beach but in the boring end of the beach-steet with a closed down, very not charming concrete mall in the area. But for a 2 star hotel everything was good and with the price you cannot expect more. An average hotel but surprisingly good for a 2 star hotel.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 5 days in June 2013. It is on a pedestrian street acessible from the main road.

The staff are very friendly and helpful except for the night shift guy who doesn't smile at all.

The rooms are acceptable and clean but they have a very small balcony on which you can barely stand up. Also the bathrooms are clean and their size is fine.

The location of the hotel is great. The Old Town and Avenida del Mar are both close (less than 5 minutes walk away). The bus station from which we took the bus to go to Puerto Banus is also very close, and we could reach Purto Banus within 15 minutes for 1.20 euros.

This hotel is not a 5 stars hotel, but it was up to our expectations.

This hotel may not have full amenities but charming all the same and would stay here again.

Stayed 5 nights this past few days (mid June) and read up on TripAdviser beforehand. Was not expecting luxury but pleasantly surprised at standards for a 2*. Nice size room (asked for comfort) and clean beds and bathroom. Was on 2nd floor so balcony was tiny not for standing on, view was over rooftops but could see mountains and Incarnacion church steeple, nicely lit at night. Rooftop terrace nice to relax on or sunbathe. Shower good, bare minimum toiletries but bottle of water when arrived nice touch. Regina and blonde lady on reception lovely, night doormen had hardly any English and could not get call put through on telephone due to this. Breakfast twice for extra fiver, nice tortillas, rolls, coffee, juice etc. All in all a lovely place for the money and quiet (for me) and central location in Old Town was a bonus, not far to buses or the beach. Great to have air conditioning also. All in all, great value at the price and would return!

Room Tip: For terrace to sit out ask for ground floor

The room was lovely as was the hotel and location but they advertise a room with a terrace and the cleaner never cleans it or the chairs so would not sit in it. The bathroom was dirty , behind the toilet dirty , dust in the room and corners not clean , clean beds though. They would get higher scores if they were cleaner , it's the most important thing in a cheap hotel.
