“True 5 Star Luxury”
Reviewed 13 October 2011

I didn't think the superb facilities could be bettered until i saw our room. The penthouse suite was simply unbelievable. Beautiful room with a great balcony and the best roof terrace and hot tub ever.
Pure luxury.

Room Tip: Spend the extra and go for the penthouse with the hot tub.

We as a family with 2 adult children have now stayed here 6 times I get very frustrated with the negative comments on tripadvisor. I have just returned from a weeks stay here and have had a lovely stay. Firstly on arrival we were met with a very helpful member of staff who checked us in and told us only 1 room was ready as we had arrived early, we went for lunch and all our luggage was taken to the 1 room.

The hotel does not charge to use the hotel beach beds but if you use the ones at the Mistral Beach then there is a charge, we managed to get 4 beds each day on the beach for sunbathing with no charge, the hotel also provide beach towels, there is also a lot of beds along the poolside but we did not make use of those, we did have lunch at the pool bar on occasion and the prices are standard for Puerto Banus.

The hotel also has a beach bar, the guy who was working there will serve your drinks to you on the beach, sometimes he will come around and ask if you wish to order a drink or sometimes you have to go over and order, he will then bring the drinks to you, this was something I enjoyed. ( Very lazy but i am on holiday )

The buffet breakfast is also good at the hotel just about anything you could want is available, fresh fruit, cold meats and cheese, sweet cakes and pastries and a cooked egg counter that are all cooked to order so there may be a short wait for your choice, also hot cooked breakfast available.

We never ate evening meals at the hotel so can not comment on this but we had very good service in the Sofia bar, the waiter knew most nights what we would like to order.

We had a problem with the balcony door not locking and this was sorted out straight away and was fine all week, I also sent for a kettle on arrival and this was sent up to the room within 5 mins so no complaints with service.

This hotel also offers free WiFi in the rooms which a lot of other hotels in the area do not, and was used a lot by us throughout our stay.

This hotel is classed as a 5* not just for the facilities it offers but also the location, it is right on the beach front and a short walk to the port with shopping, nightlife, and restaurants, how many hotels in Marbella and Puerto Banus can you sit and enjoy your breakfast looking so close to the beach.

Regards the comments on stag and hen parties we did have a hen party staying while we were there but they were fine no problems at all.

I do agree with the fact the hotel could do with a coat of paint and some of this was being done while we were there, I guess with the blistering heat and the sea this does not last as long as other places. All in all we had a great stay and look forward to another stay soon.

My husband and I are currently staying at this hotel on a 4 night break before our first child arrives and although we have had a relaxing time, I have to point out that this is no way a 5 star hotel in terms of either presentation or service- in fact it is disgraceful... To list a few things

No help with luggage on arrival

Very rude receptionist by day to check us in, after asking to see an upgraded room he was told there was nothing wrong with the room we had.... Even if we wanted to upgrade!! The receptionists walk off mid conversation and do not listen to your enquiry

We were told that even though I booked a double room and I stress double not twin... We were told we couldn't have a double bed and had to sleep with two single beds pushed together

The hotel needs a coat of paint

Our bathroom ceiling was peeling and shabby clearly after having a leek

Our mini bar fridge didnt work and whilst passing the bar I asked for a glass of ice and was informed I had to order it through room service and would be charged 3 euros...I was totally shocked and could not believe that the barman refused me a glass with ice...even after persistence and complaint to the reception!

Additionally it costs 15 euros per person for a sun bed at the hotel beach

A cappuccino costs 7.50 euros and it's the size of a breakfast cup

And I was charged 14.5 euros for a toasted cheese sandwich

Lastly the breakfast buffet whilst adequate, you will be lucky to find any service there for the likes of coffee or tea etc- in general we felt that this hotel had no service at all!!!

I am by far a tight person, or someone who writes on sites like this but this hotel has infuriated me!!! The only saving grace was the location

Room Tip: Some rooms have nice furniture ask for one of those or a suite

Whilst this hotel carries five stars, it does not behave like one. From entering the hotel to leaving, there were numerous occasions of disillusionment. These included, no availability of a porter to assist with our luggage, no turn down service, the need to repeatable request to have the room cleaned, towels not changed, an uninterested concierge, to name just a few examples. On top of this we were shocked and distressed at the number of stag and hen parties in the hotel. We had a junior suite with a roof top terrace and found ourselves surrounded by three separate groups (two groups of men and one of women) who were standing on the furniture looking over at each and shouting and using profane language and behaviour. This meant we could not utilise the roof top Jacuzzi, however this didn’t stop one of the other party doing so, as in the morning we had to turn off the lights and the jets… despite not having been in it. We passed a huge crowd of drunken people outside the bar, including one who had feel into the kerb and struggling to get up. When we were in the restaurant (we were the only people in), the owner/manager pointed out that this has now become ‘the norm’ each weekend as the hotel just chases bookings due to it currently being in administration. I am well travelled and always stay in 4 or 5 star locations, this hotel in my opinion struggles to represent even a two star venue. I have to add finally, that the junior suite was extremely well proportioned and represented which adds to the complete frustration of our stay. The hotel could be excellent and promises so much... however unfortunately it delivers very little

This hotel could be recommended for young people looking for a raucous party atmosphere, however if you are looking for a relaxed atmosphere with an attentive staff, it could definitely not.

I hope this is useful.

Room Tip: Ask to stay away from the stag and hen parties

Hotel itself is very nice, so too are the rooms. However it seems to be infested with stags, hens and very noisy corporate hoards. 5 star service also lacking i.e no porter service to carry bags from car to reception or room; no turn down service and apathetic concierge and room service. I had a suite with it's own roof top hot tub , however o strongly suspect it was used by a nieghbour whilst myself and my husband were in bed.

This was classed as a five star hotel. It is anything but save for the buffet breakfast. The rooms are tired; the staff generally uninterested and the hotel lacks any spark. There are too few beds on the beach half of which are broken although the beach person was extremely helpful and pleasant. Don't go if you want 5 star accomodation or treatment and would certainly not recommend it for a 2 week holiday but we were there for a few days and the location is superb.
