“Nice but not exceptional”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

This hotel is good quality and even at the busiest times has the space and to appear quiet.
The Food: at the Beach Bar & by the Pool the food and cocktails were excellent, albeit not quick. Breakfast is buffet-style but of course with eggs/omelette to your order and was hearty and fresh. We only ate once at the a la carte restaurant for an evening meal and it was fine and good, without being over elaborate. Nothing comes quickly but this is after all Spain!
The Room: we had a two bed/bath suite (415/416.) It was as good as anything I have stayed in of comparable price elsewhere in the World. But if you want true luxury, the suites with fully glazed walls to the seaview were exceptional. I found our room of very good quality with none of the problems others seem to have mentioned with smells or having seen better days. I wonder if the suites have had a refurb not afforded to other rooms?
The Service: this is why the hotel does not quite make my five stars. The staff were good enough but they just did not go that extra mile expected of a hotel of this nature. Smiles cost nothing and, "Good Morning" is not difficult. Not all staff, not all of the time; but enough to be noticeable. We were able to keep our room until 2pm on check-out but had a rather rude call at Noon to ask when we would be vacating, despite having arranged the late check-out. 4pm check-in was a complete nuisance.
The Location: on the beach, with its own private area, next to a Beach Bar area with lots of life. It is about a 20 minute walk along the path that runs along the edge of the beach to get to the Port. It is a popular promenade but watch out for the cyclists, of which there are many. The nearest "outside" shop is 10 minutes up a road with no path and during the day you take your life in your hands! And the shop consists of a Spar but is only part of a service station with very limited products.
The Pool & beds: very clean and well kept. Beds are just not a problem.
Wi fi: it claims to have free room wi fi. I could connect but that was it, not even the slightest hint of a download.
Price: too pricey for what this hotel offers; or at least what it delivers.
What a shame. The holiday here was good but not exceptional.

I booked a one nights stay here because we were traveling through the area and thought a beach day would be fun. Bottom line is, the place has seen better days. Our room and terrace were huge and I'm sure it was very nice in it's day but now it just looks tired and not kept up well. On top of the looks going down hill the staff are not the warmest or most welcoming people. There was one man at the front desk who helped us reschedule a dinner reservation who was very sweet and helpful( wish I remembered his name) but other than that, nobody seemed too thrilled we were there. Breakfast was plain gross, lots of it but it was like a bad catering hall. The one positive is that the beach is right there and there is a nice path you can walk along all the way to Puerto Banus. All in all I was not crazy about this hotel or Marbella in general. If you're planning a road trip through Spain you can leave both of these out.

I booked this for an anniversary treat and specifically for the jacuzzi and location.

Firstly , these hotels with 4pm check out are taking advantage as no one should lose all day using the facilities yet leave by 12 noon

The room was lovely with plenty of space and wonderful view of the beach. Can't fault the room really nicely decorated, kitchen was an added unknown benefit and air conditioning was excellent

But only one jet on the jacuzzi worked despite calling someone out so romantic jacuzzi on our anniversary terribly disappointing

Place is quite tired with holes in the tables and rough looking furniture which was not expected for five star but that's outside only inside lovely

Pool basic but has pool bar but we were there for La Sala beach so didn't bother us

Quiet so relaxing night on the terrace and uninterrupted sleep

Breakfast absolutely terrible beyond bad. Cold cold cold so left it all . Aside from eggs which after queuing we got warm. Definitely not acceptable for 5 star. Cheap frankfurter warned by a candle not my idea of al a carte

Location perfect for town and beach and views perfect but unless renovated and advised breakfast vastly improved wouldn't pay to return when blue beach next door is far better and a lot cheaper

My point of view as a professional Hotelier & restaurateur...

Stayed at the Gran Hotel Guadalpin Banus in July 2014 for three days along with my family and we were very disappointed...

We stayed at room 440-441 and the room smelled awful, it seems and according to the cleaning lady the ventilation system is very old and its connected to the ventilation system of the main kitchen! at any time i could tell what was being cooked in the kitchen...

The Hotel is very old and it needs urgently some major renovation (attached photos)

The front office employees they will try their best to help you whenever they can, most of the time their answer will be SORRY!

The breakfast is a ZOO area, immediately upon arrival they ask you for your room number and after that you are on your own, you need to beg the waiter for a table and most of the time they are not around or too busy and if you do find a table it needs cleaning or missing cutleries, glasses etc...(Food selection at the buffet is good)

Business center is a joke, the computer works only with coins and the printer never worked (attached photos)

The swimming pool and the beach area are great.

The location of the hotel is wonderful within (20 minutes) walking distance (5 minutes by car) to Puerto Banús

This hotel is lacking serious management and not even once did the General Manager or any representative of this hotel even bother to reply to any of our comments on TripAdvisor...

We recently stayed here for a long weekend and loved every minute, the hotel reception were great and we found all other staff friendly and helpful, the hotel has a perfect location over looking the beach so we could have breakfast with a sea view each morning, breakfast had a massive selection of choices so you could vary each day.
We used the hotel pool in the day (good size and never overly busy) and walked into Puerto Banus in the evenings for dinner (only took 10-15 mins along the beach front).
We would love to go back to this hotel again and would recommend it to all.

A high quality hotel on the beach in Banus. Rooms well appointed, comfortable and quiet. Large pool with lots of sunbeds if you prefer to avoid the sand of the beach. Breakfast buffet high quality foodstuffs and open until 11am. Bar and restaurant prices cheaper than in Banus. A 15 minute stroll into Banus itself along the beach, or 7 euros in a taxi. Only negatives is no free parking, 15 euros a night for that, and had to pay for wi-fi when most places now offer for free. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Avoid a room that backs onto the pool if you want some privacy.

Just got back after a 10 day holiday location very good with a 15 min walk to the harbour in banus. Breakfast ok but after 10 days you can get a little short on what to have. The hotel is used for stage and hen weekends so the weekends are very loud with groups of men and women drinking late into the night. The hotel also have now started doing weddings which on our middle weekend left the cocktail bar not open to us roped off for the wedding along with the main restaurant also rope off. Staff very helpful but I would not return this hotel needs to make its mind up as to what it would like to be a 5 star or stage and hen weedend destination
