“Great Location for beach and old town, Lovely Apartment”

Firstly, I write our review very objectively. Our business is looking after property and we travel around quite a bit and therefore we can be critical. We are always looking for perfect standards. Don't let the few issues we experienced put you off from booking. I'm sure that the owner will address them.

I booked this apartment due to the look of its size, we don't like being cramped into a small hotel room. Also, it was a surprise for my husbands 50th Birthday and we were meeting friends in Spain.

Negative Points that need a few tweaks:

The only thing I'd recommend is that there is a better selection of English DVD's; the choice is very limited and there's no English TV apart from BBC World News. This lets the apartment down for those who don't party into the night! We would come back from dinner around 1030-11-00 and sit and have a beer/glass of wine and chill on the lovely couch but the lack of TV to relax with was disappointing. We didn't think to bring our equipment to download movies!

We did get caught out regarding Damage Deposit; no where on advert did it state that there's a 200Euro deposit payable in cash upon arrival! The advert states you pay to Holiday Lettings in your final booking, which we'd assumed we'd done. However, you receive an email a week before you depart advising you of the cash deposit.. If you're unprepared for this and have already allocated your holiday funds, this is annoying. I booked the holiday as a surprise for my husband and then had to scrabble to obtain more funds, without him knowing, in order to pay the deposit. Being in the property repair business, I can fully appreciate why an owner wishes to retain a damage deposit but it does need to be clearly stated before confirming the booking. I've also pointed this out to Holiday Lettings.
After a telephone conversation with Mariette we compromised and I did advise her that the renters need to have the info prior to confirming a booking..... Hopefully, the advert will be updated for forthcoming visitors.

I can also confirm what other visitors have said about the parking; it's great to have underground parking, albeit that you have to go down -4 levels in a dark twisting narrow route to the bottom. Don't book a large car, otherwise you'll find it difficult getting it in/out between the posts on the allocated spot! Plus there's a height issue with all the service pipes on the low ceilings. It took a couple of days for us to get used to negotiating the obstacles...

Getting to the apartment, we struggled a little as the SatNav wasn't allowing us down to the actual road the apartment is situated on. On the corner is a Shop with Red/White sign writing. If you miss this because of cars double parked and sometimes blocking the entrance you'd miss the turning.

We did find that the bedding wasn't up to the English Hotel standards. We only had a quilt cover and no quilt - just an orange blanket. There was some newly packaged quilts but this we were told was for the owner. Therefore, we had a double quilt cover, nothing inside of it and a blanket over the top! No standard bathroom towels, only coloured Beach towels were for use in the bathroom, as well as an additional set for use on the sun beds. These towels didn't get you dried. We would have preferred White Bath Towels and at least a flannel! This was a bit of a let down.

Positive Aspects:

The managing agent team member, Camilla, who met us on arrival was friendly and helpful. She showed us way around the block and explained the keys and lifts.

There is also a safe in a bedroom to use, which is great for storing passports etc. Wifi is also provided which is a bonus as well.

It was very clean and tidy on arrival which is great, nothing beats a spotless place to stay at.

Loved the fact I could get my holiday washing done and dry before we left!

Due to the weather, we couldn't make use of the pools but they are ideal; shame there's no bar though!

The apartment is very well equipped and it's more like sharing Mariettes Spanish home than a holiday apartment !

Location: Ideal for all of Marbella boulevard and Old Town.

In the Old Town, don't miss the two pastry shops; cakes to die for and they also serve coffee etc. We met a couple who come every day from Calahonda to the shop before 2pm for their ham rolls and pastries. Please be aware that they're closed between 2-4pm though.

The walk to Purto Banus is a long one! Don't try it in the heat though. We had to relent on the way back and get the Ferry back to Marbella.

If you don't intend to drive around the area, don't have a car as everything is so central to you.

We would visit this apartment again as it's so convenient for everything; just a few tweaks and it would be perfect!

Thank you Mariette for letting us use your apartment is was lovely.

Management Response
10 Nov 2015
Dear Julia,

Thank you for your comprehensive review. We appreciate your feedback, especially as we had intensive contact before your visit re the surprise for your husband's birthday. At your request we advised nice restaurants and a dinner trip on a boat. We hope we contributed to a special day for your husband.

Re the damage deposit we need to explain as follows: Holiday Lettings normally charges the 200 euro damage deposit in the total invoice, which you receive as a quote. However, we thought it would be more friendly to pay upon arrival and receive the deposit back upon departure instead of paying months before you are having your actual holidays (at the moment of booking) and receiving the deposit back from HL weeks after departure. This information can be found on the website (owner notes).
?
Re the parking garage: lights light up when you drive down. We are very happy to have a parking space in the center of Marbella, which we can offer to our guests for free, as public parking is sparse.

Everything in the apartment is for the guests' use also the newly packaged quilts. They were bought this summer and therefore still packed.

As the apartment is refurbished in 2015 all linen/towels etc. are new as from then.

“Superb Apartment on the beach”
Reviewed 15 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

We stayed for two weeks in July at this excellent apartment in Marbella
It is situated in the quieter part of Marbella's boulevard, yet only about 50 metres from all the restaurants and bars. You can both see and hear the sea from the apartment, yet it is only a stones throw from the Old Town, with its lots of shops and yet more bars and restaurants. Fabulous area.

Our thanks to Mariette for the use of this apartment, which was spotlessly clean on arrival, and contained everything you could need, dishwasher, fridge, freezer, cooker, etc.
There are two air conditioning units, one in the lounge and one in the main bedroom, which kept it nice and cool, even when the temperature hit 40 !!

Michael, who looks after the property collected us from the airport, and picked us up from the apartment for the return journey. Great guy, and very helpful.

We ate out every night, from the great range of restaurants in the area and honestly didn't have a bad meal. Superb.

Highly recommended.

“Excellent Aprtment”
Reviewed 2 May 2015 for a stay in April 2015

Had a great 5 day stay here. Its just over the road from Orange Square and 2 minutes from the beach and promenade. everything you need is supplied and the bed was very good too. Only concern was the parking, we had a Citroen C3 and could only just get into the parking space. There are lots of concrete pillars in the car park area and some are very close together - be careful!

“A nice place to relax!”
Reviewed 11 January 2015 for a stay in June 2014

I had a great time in Marbella. I enjoyed my stay in this apartment very much as it is really close to the beach as well as cafes and bars in the old town or boulevard. All walkable! The seaside view from the apartment including the sea sounds are really relaxing. The apartment itself was clean, spacious and light! .. and not so touristic. I liked to be in the middle of the Spanish culture with primarily Spanish neighbours. Definately recommended if you want to have a relaxing holiday!

“Perfectly located, stylish apartment with great sea views!”

Had a great stay. The location of the apartment couldn't be better for me. It is located just next to the sparkling parts of Marbella. It is only a five minute walk to get there. You are right at the boulevard and very close to the old town for example. On the other side, it is nice and quiet in and around the apartment itself. We had a very good time using the two pools of the complex, often combined with a visit to the beach in front. Especially the pool at the rooftop, from which you can see the whole coastline, is great. You can even see the rock of Gibraltar. The terrace is fantastic, also a great view on the sea. It is very relaxing to hear the sea constantly. There was more than enough space for the four of us, and the apartment was very clean, well-organized, and equipped with a remarkably complete kitchen. Also really appreciated the many 'insider' Marbella tips from Mariette, we got there, that kept us going whole week. Thanks again!

“Spacious and comfortable apartment on the boulevard of Marbella!”
Reviewed 2 May 2014 for a stay in April 2014

Lovely, spacious and comfortable apartment. Fantastic location, right on the boulevard of Marbella. Everything was within walking distance (restaurants, shops, busstop ect.).
In the apartment we could actually hear the sea. Imagine falling asleep with the sound of the sea in the background!
The apartment was clean and fully equipped.
We thoroughly recommend the apartment for a holiday in Marbella to anyone and hope to go back again ourselves one day!
