“Definitely not a four star hotel”
Reviewed 24 March 2010

My husband and I booked this holiday after the collapse of tour operator we always used and stayed at the Sol Melia hotel a few hundred metres from the Don Pablo. No comparison. Cannot understand why standards can differ so much within star ratings. Hotel requires serious upgrading and maintenance. Flaking paint on leaking bathroom ceiling and balcony, shattered glass panel on balcony, no balcony light, old wooden windows and patio door secured by chain. Dark small bedroom with awful tapestry covering one entire wall. Social areas dated, gloomy and unwelcoming. Indoor pool awful - mouldy ceiling and only one small shared changing room. Outdoor pool areas not much better. Badly repaired or broken steps. One redeeming factor - its seafront location. Meals were plentiful but some very unusual items on offer at breakfast - cabbage, carrots and even brussel sprouts! More suitable for older clientele.

I am so sorry that this guest did not enjoy their stay with us. As you can see from the other comments on Trip Advisor, the majority of guests really like our product and we have many who come on a regular basis.
Please permit me to answer a few points:
It is not mentioned whether a change of room was requested because of the leak in the ceiling; we would have been delighted to have offered another room. All have tapestries - we have many compliments on the decoration - but perhaps a higher floor with more light would have been more suitable.
I don't think it fair to call the rooms small - they are considerably larger than the 4-star specification.
Many guests appreciate the possibility of leaving the door on the chain at night. It allows air in to the room whilst feeling more secure.
We pride ourselves in having guests of very diverse nationalities and where we do like to please as many people as possible is in the dining room. Some guests like to have a vegetable dish every day on the breakfast buffet (if it were not consumed, it would not be there) and I am not sure it is fair to poke fun at them. Again, not everyone has the same taste or customs. As well as the vegetable dish we have a minimum of 7 varieties of fresh fruits, 7 of cereals, 5 freshly-baked breads and croissants, bacon, saugages, fried bread, beans, pancakes and eggs done to order, cava, juices and much more.
As I say at the beginning, the majority of our guests really like the Don Pablo, but no hotel can tick all the boxes for everyone, and I am very sorry that we did not manage to do so on this occasion.

stayed at don pablo monday to thursday. this is our fourth stay and as usual had a lovely time. were allowed into our room early which was much appreciated!
this is a lovely hotel although we only go out of season. frequented by many older guests so is not noisy. there is always a sunbed available in lovely grounds. of an evening we liked to go to the nearby tiki bar which is on the right of the hotel promenade side and can recommend the cocktails (which are strong!) and the chairs (which are very comfy!)
planning on returning in september as usual

It is very nice to hear from you.
I have also heard really nice reviews of Tiki Bar, although I haven't been myself. One of the other managers is very fond of it. Strong drinks and comfy seats sounds like a dangerous mix to me!

Just returned from a week at the Don Pablo, very nice stay no negatives apart from rooms with even numbers get the sun till mid morning odd numbered rooms get the sun in the afternoon, we were in room 916 on the top floor ( high floor was requested by me direct to the hotel by e mail and I had a good positive response).
When we checked in they were aware of my request and we had to wait 10 minutes as the room was not quite ready but thats not a problem as its what I requested.
You have the use of the Don Pedro and Don Marco's facilities both very nice and clean, food was fine plenty of choice even for the most fussy eaters, nice touch having an Italian Area the food choice was good there as well.
Rooms very clean and serviced daily, plenty of sunbeds to choose from, main pool was empty as repairs are needed but at this time of year the indoor pool is best idea anyway.
Overall a very nice place to spend a week and would go again early season sometime.
Special thanks must go to Luisa Greig for replying to my e mails and arranging a high floor room for our stay.

Suited us down to the ground. Spacious reception area with ample seating. We had a very comfortable room for the week, it was on the 7th Floor with a pleasant side sea and mountaIn view over the town to the north. We were on half board and very happy to eat in every night, and nearby there were tourist shops and places to have lunch etc. The hotel is right on the 9km prom by the excellently maintained beach and it is a short walk to the lift up to the old town with a greater variety of shops, and the station for the train to Malaga, and the bus station. The weather was a bit mixed but pleasant enough. The facilities for less mobile guests seemed very good, and the staff were most obliging.

We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay. We have been having some strange weather of late but we can be grateful that we haven't been snowed in!
Thank you for mentioning the accesibility for disabled guests. The whole Complex (apart for the 2 jacuzzis) is accesible by wheelchair and we have just added 6 fully-adapted bedrooms in the Don Pablo this winter to add to the four in the Sol Don Marco.
We hope to see you back soon.

There were 10 of us on this holiday ages range between 17 to 66. Granted it was more older people but they were a great bunch, my son who is 18 joined in with all the oldies and had a great time, my neice who is 17 has special needs and is very shy (she had a wonderful time and didnt want to come home). The entertain staff (rober and xvia and bea) were great. We would defenatly go back to this hotel. The food was fresh and always plenty of it, cannot fault anything about the place.

My husband and I took our 4 year old grandson for 1 5 day winter break to Torremolinos. We booked this hotel through Alpha rooms, what a bargain too.
The hotel is right on the promenade and is part of a 3 hotel complex, so you get to use all facilities.
Our room was large with plenty of storage space and nicely decorated.
The food was really good, fresh and plenty of choice. The waiting staff were very attentive and friendly.
The only down side were the prices in the hotel bar, £3 for small glass of lemonade, £2 for a small bottle of water and £4 for a pint of flat lager.
Most of the other holidaymakers were elderly and had booked for the winter, most of them go back every year.
I would go back again in the winter, but would think twice in high season as I imagine it gets really busy, and maybe the service would not be as good.

Thank you so much for your kind words. It is always nice to hear your comments and I think that you give other readers a good analysis of the hotel in the low season from the perspective of travellers with a young child.
I would only like to add that in summer, although of course there are more guests, we also have more services available. These include 2 pool bars with lunch menus, another restaurant, another entertainment lounge for shows and more staff. Furthermore, the mix of nationalities means that our guests do not all want to use the same services at the same time.

A nice hotel, well situated for exploring the region. On the seafront promenade, so good for setting out on long walks. We really enjoyed our stay, although the food got a bit 'samey' toward the end of our two week stay. The choice of swimming pools was great. We would definitely go back again, although on a B&B basis.
