“Exactly how a 4* Hotel should be”
Reviewed 13 July 2012

This hotel is exactly how a 4* hotel should be. Well run with lovely airy public rooms, efficient friendly staff throughout and comfortable quiet bedrooms with sea views. The food is very good with plenty of choice and we liked the fact that the tables are not too close together so you are not listening to conversations on the next table. With long opening hours, up to 11am for breakfast and 11pm for dinner, it is convenient for early and late eaters at both ends of the day.
The pool is a little small for the size of the hotel, but the beach is just a step away across the road with plenty of comfortable beach beds and umbrellas to choose from, at reasonable prices.
We booked directly with Melia Hotels and received free transfers both from and to the airport which worked really well.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and frankly if every hotel which claimed to be a 4* was as good as this we would be very happy indeed.

Room Tip: I would say 4th floor and above would be a good choice

This hotel is very well located - beach just across the road, rooms are very nice with a grate view of the seafront. The food was excellent and the staff very helpful and friendly. The only downside to this hotel is the pool area is too small for the size of hotel. This was my second visit to this hotel and both time I have had an excellent stay.

Room Tip: Room overlooking the pool have a seaview. The higher up the better view.

The Melia was out last stop on our tour of southern Spain. We loved the fact that it was directly across the street from the beach and within walking distance to just about everything the area has to offer.Check in was fine. The lobby looked as though it was recently renovated. We booked a classic non smoking ocean view room. The room was clean, decorated nicely the bed was comfortable but our biggest disappointment was the view. From the pictures on the website we expected an ocean view. What we got was a partial ocean view with the other half of the view the cliffside. We were on the sixth floor west tower midway. The cliffs have a long stairway to the beach to the top and it goes right past our balcony. People using the stairway can see directly in the room so we had to keep the sheers drawn at all times.Twice when we had the door to the balcony open cigarette smoke came wafting in the room. I looked over the balcony to see if it was someone who was out the balcony next to us..No one was there or anywhere around us. Later in the afternoon this happened again and this time I looked over the balcony and discovered where the smoke was coming from. We were right above the loading dock of the hotel and directly below us was a bench and an ash can. The hotel employee was just finishing up his cigarette. The following morning we were awaken by trash trucks dumping bottles..lots of bottles in the loading dock are..We didn't complain because we were already unpacked and settled into the room.We were out most of the time so as annoying as these things were we over looked them. Breakfast the following morning before check out was very good. A great selection to choose from.My advice would be if your going to book at The Melia ask where the location of the room is.

Room Tip: request a room on the southside

Very nice oceanfront resort--great views from the rooms, excellent breakfasts (with champagne!), free wi-fi, and very centrally located. The pool area is a little small given the size of the hotel, and the chairs filled up rather quickly each morning. The staff was friendly and helpful, though a concierge desk would have been nice (you always had to wait in line if you had a question about directions, restaurants, etc.). Rooms were nice, with balconies, and very inexpensive compared to U.S. beachfront resorts. Very close to the airport and an easy commute to Malaga to see the sights. Mijas is also a relatively short bus ride, and is a great place to spend a day--beautiful mountain village with great views of the sea.

This hotel is ideal for transit to and and from another place. It is convenient but located in front of a beach. Rooms are small but there is a nice balcony. Very tiny pool with limited chairs for over 1,000 guests when the hotel is full!...
Food is acceptable-
Beds are OK but the place is noisy.
Expensive parking fee: 18 euros a day.

Were currently enjoying our holiday at the Melia. It has an excellent location on the beech front and is within 10 mins walk of 90% of the gay bars and clubs in the area. The facilities and very comfortable with free wifi access (which you can also use on the gay El Gato beech, enormouse beds (room for two or more) and cable TV. All the rooms except sweets are at 45 degree angles so you get privacy and a sea view from all the rooms (sites face directly to the sea). The suites also have private sun terraces.
The restaurants is excellent, with a huge variety of different foods available. The Breakfast also has an omelet bar so you can have a custom omelet for your morning meal. All the meats in the evening are also cooked in front of you so you can choose how you take your meat. The food quality and variety is truly excellent.
The pool area is clean and neatly kept, plus there is a gym and spar also available.
The staff at the hotel are efficent and very helpful. This is truly the best place for a gay traveller to visit.

This really is the real deal at a great price!

Room Tip: Suites are a front, all other rooms are at 45 degrees facing the sea.

Had a three night break at this hotel at the end of June with three friends. We booked through Expedia for a reasonably cheap break, so we weren't expecting a top quality hotel.

Hired a car from the airport. Although close to the airport the sat nav didn't get us to the hotel with the post code/road name, so we had to ask for directions, which was fine. No queues at check in, staff reasonably pleasant. Rooms ready for 2pm. No queues at check out either.

Rooms okay. The balconies are very small, and our views were rubbish - we were on the wrong side of the hotel, with a very obscured view of the sea. I think pool view rooms would have a better view. The suites would have a great view. Higher floors would also have better views.

Breakfast was fine - good selection of hams, cheeses and fruit. Hot breakfast seemed pretty good too, and tea/coffee served at table.

The pool area is pretty small. I presume that most people use the beach, which looked very clean, with lots of covered loungers (for a fee).

Lots of restaurants and bars nearby, but not too noisy, and actually we found lots of Spanish people around rather than Brits, which was fine by us. Fears of a Blackpool style resort were quickly dismissed. In fact we ended up as the only Brits in a Spanish bar for the Euro Final which was amazing!

Free parking can be difficult to find. 20 Euros a day otherwise, if you can find room in the hotel car park. Otherwise it's up the road to a public car park at the same cost.

Visited Puerto Banus (40mins) and Gibraltar (1hr 30). If you fancy watching rich people showing off, then Puerto Banus is for you. Personally I thought Gibraltar was fantastic - wonderful views, stunning place. Well worth a visit. We went on a bus tour which was a great way to get around in a short space of time, seeing everything we needed to.

All in all, an average hotel in a reasonable resort. Fine for a few nights, not sure about any longer.

Room Tip: Pool view rooms are better, particularly on higher floors
