Gran Cervantes by Blue Sea
Ranked #34 of 71 Hotels in Torremolinos

When we booked our vacation we had an option to stay at a hotel closer to the beach, or for a little less, stay at the Cervantes Hotel. Oddly this hotel got better reviews, so we chose it. On a map it's only seems a block or two away from the ocean, but in fact it's up a big hill and is about a 10 minute walk to get there. That actually wasn't a bad thing. To get to the beach, you walk down this great street, Calle de San Miguel, which winds down the hill and is full of great shops and restaurants. Plus there are lots of other stores and restaurants closer to the hotel. The location turned out to be great.

The hotel doesn't look great from the outside, but compared to some of the older, decaying places, it seems like a palace. I highly recommend getting using GPS to find this place because the roads are very tricky. You can park in the hotel garage for around $15 Euros a night, or park on the street for free. However, it's not easy to find a spot in that area. And if you're worried about your car being sideswiped, you may consider using the garage. We parked the first night in the garage and were able to find spots on the street the rest of the time.

There are two pools in the hotel, one outdoors on their terrace, and one on the roof. In nice weather, both are great. Views from the top pool are fantastic, but the better pool is the lower one. There is a big buffet restaurant downstairs, and a pub/restaurant on the main floor. They are not cheap. Luckily the buffet breakfast was included with our rooms. It's a hearty meal with tons of options. There's also a lounge area/bar where they have music and dancing every night on the main floor as well.

The service is this place was not fantastic. Even though there were two of us in our room, they kept leaving only one towel. Many times our key cards stopped working and we'd have to replace them. When we'd walk to our room from the elevators, a few times we saw cockroaches scurrying across the carpet into the laundry room. I didn't find the people behind the desk particularly friendly or helpful when I asked for help or advice.

The room itself was okay, nothing special. It was a tiny room with a king bed. There was a good-sized closet with a safe we could use. And rooms can get wi-fi. Unfortunately you have to pay daily for the safe and internet. Definitely pay for the safe. There is a small internet area which you pay by the minute on the main level. There was a good-sized TV with cable, a decent patio, and a pretty nice bathroom. It was a very basic room, one which isn't meant for hanging out in, which is fine for this city.

We stayed for a week and this definitely wasn't one of the best hotels I've stayed in on vacation, but Torremolinos I think it was pretty good. It wasn't a steal to stay here, but I think it was a good price for what we got. I'd give it 3.5 starts if I could, but I can't so I rounded up. Oh, and take the stairs. The elevators are as slow as can be.

Room Tip: Ask about getting a room that faces the ocean. A room with one king bed was very tiny. It might be w...

My wife and I spent a week in Malaga. The Cervantes is about 30 minutes from the Airport. We brought our Garmin GPS with a European chip and it was INVALUABLE. Parking is at a premium around the Hotel but the Hotel does have an enclosed Parking Garage (extra charge) The exterior of the Cervantes looks old and dated as is the hallway carpeting. The rooms are modest but quiet and comfortable. Ours had an outside balcony with table and chairs which we enjoyed. It was easy access to the expressway, so we drove to Granada & Gilbralder. The Lobby and Common areas of the Hotel are modern and the Service was excellent. The free Breakfast Buffet was huge with anything you might want.. An Outstanding Restaurant within walking distance is El Sabor at Calle Casablanca 20. Moderate prices, exceptional food (a Great Dining Experience)

Stayed there last year, and going this year again. Good choice and variety of food for breakfast and dinner, especially because of poor choice in local restaurants.
Rooms are big and spacious. Only one dislike, a poor quality of a gym room.

3 star rating at best. No Tea/Coffee facilities in room (which to be fair I expected as been to Spain before!) And No satellite T.V (1 English speaking channel BBC world). I know I'm on holiday and what you watching T.V for blah blah blah, but it is nice to hear other English voices occasionaly. Hotel also full of Spanish with their impecable manners at meal times !!. (You know the ones I mean). Nearly in a fight with them barging in front for toast machine. Meals themselves terrible. Usual 'cold' chips and pasta every night with whatever junk you could muster to go with it. Bulls Tail main meat one night. Only assume they stabbed a few poor beasts to death in the bull ring that particular day. We actually ate out the last few night to save enduring the dining room. Go B&B next time Breakfast was acceptable but then again I'm only a cereal and toast man in the morning. Walls also paper thin. Could hear everything going on next door! and I mean everything!. Also Think all Spaniards deaf as not only do they shout when they talk, but also T.V's blaring. Beds could be better, quite hard but had worse. On the good side, Hotel location perfect, and my Air con good, though friends we were with had to get room service 3 times to fix theirs. Forgot to mention on arrival Had to wait an hour as room not ready. Like thet weren't expecting us!. Swimm.iong pool I didn't use but other half informs full of cold sandy sea water. On the whole Had better hotels and also worse. Certainlt not 4 star but Better the devil you know so would probably go back. Beautifull weather and country, Shame about the people who would be struggling without tourists. They should remember that.

Room Tip: They seem to give out the first room available so luck of the draw I think regarding requesting a ro...

Important to say that this hotel has some annoying points:
Breakfast is chaos, purely due to the number of people
WIFI is not free and also does not work great except for in the public areas
Drinks are expensive €2.50 for a small glass of beer

But I would stay here again because for the price I paid it was worth it. The staff are great too, very helpful and cheerful. The pool area is great, and the location of the hotel is good too.

I went to this hotel at the end of June with my boyfriend!

Good points:
- Arrived late at night and were allowed to take the lunch meal on the following day due to missing the evening meal
- Excellent rooms, overlooking the sea!
- Excellent location, right next to the lift which cost 1euro for 2 people to take you down to the beach
- Towels changed every day
- Maids come back to your room later in the day to clean if they dont do it during the morning
- Roof top people was brill :) Very quiet and always plenty of sunbeds!! Gym is also on the roof and is alright to use but has probably seen better days!!

Bad points:
- Arriving late at night were told we would have to wait until the morning for a safe!!
- Not alot of choice on food, we are fussy eaters but the food here was not a good range unless you fancied octopus anyways!
- No entertainment!! On arrival there was somebody playing music with people dancing around, for the rest of the week there was nothing!!

All in all the hotel was really nice except for the few points, the area was lovely too, very spanish!!
Would not stop here again!!
