Stayed here for 1 night to break up a 6 hour car journey. I can honestly say this is the worst 4 star hotel I have ever encountered.

Greeted by rude, obnoxious reception staff who allocated us a room overlooking the staff entrances, with a view to the bins. Complained and was moved. Room seemed fine until we woke in the morning to find a cockroach above the mirror. It did a circuit of the room and crawled back through the air-con vent from which I assume it came from.

Staff at the pool bar were foul mannered. Drinks were ridiculously over-priced. The hot food was very poor...cold, bland, frozen fish dishes....virtually unedible (cold food was nice and fresh though). Waiters in restaurant were downright ignorant.

Please do not think I am the type that doesn't appreciate Spanish food or culture, I actually live in Spain and was travelling back home. The disrespect my wife and I were shown by the staff was appalling and I can only assume this hotel is anti-British.

Nor am I a moaner...I have never written a review about a hotel before, but this was a particularly bad experience. If I had booked for longer than 1 night, I would have demanded a refund and left....do not stay here!

On balance, the only good I can say is the decor and grounds were lovely, obviously the money has been spent here, rather than on staff training or management.

Stayed here the night from 14th July to 15th July and was glad that it was only for one night as we started a trip through Andalusia.
We had room number 4 and the airco made a terrible noise, the beds were very soft and the left door of our balcony (on ground level) couldn't be locked...
Dinner was a buffet which was average.
The best thing about this hotel is the pool and the surrounding gardens.

Room tip: Ask for a suite.

Not 4 star but this is not a bad place either. The rooms are clean and a good size. The bathrooms have been newly renovated. The pool is a good size and the grounds are well kept. Its just that the whole hotel is a little tired and is also on a run-down street. Nearly every business, including some big hotels on the adjacent roads are closed and boarded-up, and this gives you the inpression the holtel is also on its last legs!
The hotel is 5 minutes walk to the beach and only a short taxi ride (€5) to the main centre of Torremolinos.
The food is average. Thankfully we were B&B only. I would have been very dissapointed if we were full board.
Overall the hotel was relaxing, if not a little boring.

Room tip: Dont go full board!!

Booked with Travel republic and stayed at the Royal Al-Andulas we stayed there 3 years ago over the new year so we thought we'd try it again, once again we weren't disappointed with the hotel itself , however breakfast time was a bit of a mad one it didn't come to the same standard as our previous stay the food has definately slipped it's previous standard and it was so noisey! The rooms are clean and comfortable. Maid service attended every day and pottered around - the one thing that puzzled us was when on one occassion she came to potter around the room whilst we were out and we found the clean bedding placed on the side leaving us to wonder if we were change them ourselves (of which we didn't but I was tempted to!!!!) the poolside is as said in previous reviews very busy and yes the towels were out on the beds before the birds woke! The hotel is not to far from some really good restaurants & bars and about 5mins from the beach which is is spotlessly clean the sun beds are reasonably priced at 9euros for 2 all day. If out and about on the sea front pop into Nigel & Cheryl's or the Sunset coffee bar.Or on route to & from the beach pop into Cheer's.

Room tip: even although the hotel is not on the beach front asked for a room on a high floor for a sea view.

We stay here every June and really liked it but this year it seemed that it had hit hard times, we got married in Gibraltar and so used the hotel as a base for our friends and family that atayed with us for the wedding, or at least that was the plan our friends booked with Travel Republic and they tried to outbook them to a hotel about an hour away so they had to pay extra to stay in a closer hotel nightmare.
Anyway the Royal Al Andalus we stayed in a suite and they are lovely worth the extra money. The breakfast has gone downhill really poor pastry selection and poor choice of hot breakfast they changed the seats and tables so it feels a lot like a café than a restaurant.
On a weekend the hotel lets the local Spanish families come here as the parents get very drunk and the children very noisy, running around and generally being a bit of a nuisance - not good.
The ladies who clean the rooms are lovely and do an excellent job, reception have very little command of English but then I have very little command of Spanish and are ok, the restaurant staff are grumpy, the chef looks happy, the afternoon waiter in the pool bar is grumpy.
Not sure if we are going to use the Andalus next year we might go back to the Melia who we sometimes stay with in November.
