“First time at the Riu”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 November 2013

Well what can on say first time at the Riu, have stopped in Torremolinos over the last four years The Riu was refurbished last winter and our usual venue was closed this winter so tried the Riu.The new refurbished room OK but very clinical would not have liked to be any bigger with the toilet and bidet at the end of the bathroom in almost a small cubical no room to move. Booked a
partial sea view and asked for a high floor also early sitting for dinner (raise the issue with reception 0nly to be told floor three is high also no other room available as the hotel was full and could not change late sitting for dinner. Pool in door freezing no chance of using it with that low temperature. Buffet food passable but no better than the average hotel fare. Very disappointed do not think I will return

Room Tip: Hi room if you can get it also close to the sea end of the hotel corner room again if you can get it...

We have just returned from a week at the Nautilus, having been recommended the hotel by a friend. We wanted a quiet week in the sun, in a relaxing and pleasant setting and this is what we got.
Arriving in the small hours after a delayed flight, we were quickly "processed" and told that there was a cold buffet available in the dining room, which we certainly were not expecting. The room in the annexe was large, with 2 huge beds, lots of storage space and an enormous walk in shower. The room was kept spotlessly clean by housekeeping.
Breakfast is a buffet; the selection is tremendous: fresh fruit, cakes and pastries, cold meats and cheeses, various styles of eggs, bacon, etc, salads, juices, endless tea and coffee etc etc. The evening meal is again a buffet with a choice of an early or later sitting. A wide range of starters, soups and salads, various main courses, changing daily, with a different roast too, various veggies and a mega dessert buffet too. There is also the opportunity to book into the small Ole restaurant for one night of your stay, where typical local food is served.
The hotel is right on the promenade, an easy and pleasant walk into both Benalmadena and Torremolinos. The local service buses into Malaga, Mijas or Fuengirola are a 5 minute walk away. Yes, in November many of the residents are older, but they seem to be the active variety!
All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed the hotel and would be more than happy to return.

Room Tip: The rooms in the annexe which face the main hotel get little sun, but as there are various places to...

Marie and I have just spent a week here, the food is reasonable to good but nothing to write home about. The breakfasts are repetitive so a week is sufficient. It is disappointing to find out the hard way, this hotel has a 2.5% commission charge for changing currency with no notification this is the case. This is in addition to offering a lesser exchange rate than the Banks etc. the rooms are cleaned to a good standard and the hotel in General is spotless. It is in a good location for the Marina and on the beach.

Room Tip: We stayed in 707, this side of the hotel although not the best view gives sunshine well into the eve...

A week at the RIU Nautilus is nearly over but what a week. The hotel is modern, clean, and of top quality. We arrived very late due to a flight delay but despite this a very high quality and comprehensive cold Buffett was laid on. The food at this hotel is 1st class with so much choice you will never go hungry. We chose the late dinner sitting at 19:45hrs which suited us just fine.
Breakfast is another feast with the best fried eggs I have found in any hotel along with well cooked bacon, but this was only a fraction of the extensive offerings both hot and cold, even the choice of breads and cakes was extensive.
A big plus for us was that there were only adult guests so the atmosphere was calm and quiet.
To be honest I can't think of any negatives to put in this review as the hotel is so impressive.
This was my first stay at an RIU Hotel but it will not be the last if this is the quality the brand delivers..We'll done everyone at the RIU Nautilus.

After reading lots of good reviews we booked 11 nights at this hotel. It had a nice refurbish very purple. The rooms are very nice clean fab beds and maintained to a high standard. But the hotel lacked any warmth or atmosphere, the entertainment was none existent only two artists worth looking at and the bar prices well the least said. The food was well mediocre we are not fussy eaters but the meat was tough and very repetitive why they sprinkle everything with herbs is beyond me one thing i can say the breakfasts were good.If the weather had not been fabulous we would have been very sad,And we did meet a lovely couple from Preston Cath And Peter Thanks guys.Room tip high floor main block afternoon sun very good.

Room Tip: Higher floors have both sea and mountain views

Stayed here for 1 week in Oct. to give my elderly mother-in-law a holiday in the sun.
We knew exactly where the hotel was and knew it would be a suitable due to its location on the promenade. I would recommend this stretch which runs from the marina at Benalmadena right around the headland to Torremolinos and beyond. For anyone physically challenged it's perfect - on foot, on zimmer or on motability scooter!
The hotel has been nicely refurbed and is adults only which is good for couples ( but does tend to put the average age up! ) The bedrooms are really nice and have excellent bathrooms. As other reviewers have noted there are some which are really badly situated in the annex. We had booked directly on the Riu site as this was the only way to get a single room, and thought this might give us kudos - alas no. On check-in we asked if they were good rooms and the recepionist was truthful and said if we weren't happy just to come back and ask for a room change in the morning, as the hotel was full.
To cut a long story short we eventually got moved on the 3rd day to a garden-view room. Our balcony was in the shade from mid-morning but we gladly put up with this to escape the noise from the street on the other side of the corridor - the apartments across are being renovated and the builders started VERY early!
The restaurant is nicely decorated but we opted to eat on the terrace as the weather was unseasonably warm. This was really nice and our waiting staff were very good. This is a busy hotel so the buffet is pretty hectic but the food is of a decent standard, while the wine is reasonably priced and decent. While on the subject - what is it about Spanish hotels that they like such bright lights in their dining rooms? Surely in an adults only hotel some subtle lighting would add a touch of romance (maybe it's that average age thing again)!!!
In case you are wondering about my title I shall move on to the entertainment. I'm not sure if it was just on our particular dates, but if you're a dancer you'll love this place. No matter what the entertainment was billed as, every night the floor was full of couples dancing and swaying in some style! For two left footed creatures like me there is a lovely terrace outside so bring a wrap and enjoy.
We took a taxi into Torremolinos centre on Sat morning which cost 7 Euro. It was nice to mingle with the locals on a weekend and have a drink in the square and watch the world go by. There is apparently a very good shopping centre near the airport, should the weather disappoint, and Malaga is very accesible. The spa at the hotel is lovely too if the Adalucian weather turns nasty.
In summary if you are looking for a decent standard of hotel which is near all facilities, and aren't put off by a lack of local flavour, then you should be able to enjoy a stay here.

Room Tip: Have a look before unpacking. In the annex some steet-view rooms are noisy and some to the right of...

Just had a 10 day stay at riu nautilus could not fault it at all.Been refurbed to a high standard ,rooms large smart and comfortable most with views.Staff very friendly and helpful ,food extremely good. The position is excellent with plenty of easy walks. Special thanks to the assistant manager who was continually checking if all was ok.As Riu members it is one of the best we have stayed in.

Room Tip: If not having a sea view choose a high floor
