Just got back from a 4 night stay. Rooms dated but clean. Towel change daily. Breakfast was OK, not much choice. The evening meal didn't apply to us as we were only B&B, which I was glad of as it looked dreadful. Excellent location for Benalmadena marina and all of Torremolinos. Great little beach bar call Balu Beach just outside of hotel. Would stay again, definitely worth what you pay.
11 of us stayed here for a Hen Weekend. I didn't book the hotel and I certainly wouldn't go back. It was cheap and I suppose that was the purpose of it but we had 3 people in some rooms. The rooms were not spacious; the facilities were not modern. The camp bed was broken. One of us took turns sleeping with the mattress on the floor.
It is ok location-wise and the breakfast was nice but that's about it.
I stayed at last barracuda for a short break mid February.The hotel is in great position right by the promenade.The check in was very friendly and helpful.our room was clean and in good order.Fresh towels an shower gel were provided every day.Hotel public areas are bright an well cared for.Restaurant had decent food choice but as per some previous reviews food was lukewarm.If this is a problem there is great tapas bar next door.And many other bars an restaurants in local area.All in all a decent hotel choice.
We spent our fourth holiday in La Barracuda over christmas 2013, and found the hotel, as usual, to be perfectly acceptable and reasonably priced. Our room on the 9th floor was on the 'dark side' - but you can pay an extra 6 euros per person per day for a room on the sunny side. You may find this worthwhile if you intend to spend all your time sitting on your balcony, but for the limited sunshine in December it's not worth paying.
The room had air conditioning and a flat screen TV, which had a couple of English channels - but who goes on holiday to watch TV? The room was cleaned and towels changed every day, and bars of soap and little bottles of shower gel appeared at random intervals. The sheets were also changed about four times during our two week stay.
The wi-fi in the hotel is free, but generally useless. You have to get a password from reception, which is only valid for three days, and you need to enter your password every time you log on - that's IF you can get a decent signal. It's much easier going into one of the local bars, most of which are happy to let you use their service.
We stayed half board, and while the food wasn't brilliant, we always found something to eat. The main disappointment was that we only had chips about 3 times - the usual offerings were Spanish potatoes, boiled potatoes, potato croquettes, or 'mashed potato' which was grey and sloppy and resembled lukewarm wallpaper paste...
Being located in Montemar, there is a good selection of bars and restaurants within easy walking distance - English, Spanish, Italian, Irish and Argentinian among others. There is also a small supermarket, tobacconist, travel agent with money exchange, and a pharmacy within five minutes' walk.
When we arrived, we got the train from the airport and got off at El Pinillo. It's about 10-15 minutes walk (downhill) to the Barracuda. The train cost about 1.80 each - a taxi would have been around 20 euros. We didn't fancy walking uphill to the station when we left, so we got a taxi to the airport.
As you come out of the hotel, the taxi rank is at the top of the street - about 50 yards away. There were always plenty of taxis available (even on christmas day!) so there's no need to book one.
To sum up, this hotel is OK if you can get a cheap deal - it seems to get quite expensive during high season.
we stay in this area every year but the place we usually stay we had to cancel as a medical problem was possibly going to stop us coming out to montemar.fourtunately thing were resolved so we booked this hotel as we had stayed there some years before .well i must say this hotel is cleaner than some four stars, the linen and towels change almost every day ,the dinning room provides ample breakfasts rangeing from cereal ,fruit cold meats ,cheeses, to cooked items like eggs boil ,fried or scrambled ,beans,ect there is enough to fill you up. the evening meals are not very good but possibly you could find something, but my advice is stay b/b and eat out in the evening , at this time of year hotels and apartments can be a little chilly in the night not this the heating came on in the evening for several hours and again in the morning ,it is worth paying the extra for a west facing room with the veiws towards the marina the sun is on your balcony until late evening.there is not much entertainment ,only on the weekend there is dancing in the down stairs bar .would i stay here again of course i would its clean ,warm and in an excellant position
Excellent location. The check in process was very unfriendly and we were given an awful room over the kitchen with no views. We changed to a high floor room with much better views but no appologies from the reception staff. The room was basic but very clean and the room service during our stay was good with clean towels every day. The big let down for this hotel was the buffet meals. The food was always cold, very un-appetising and no option to have meals off a menu. So we ate out most nights. best opt for bed & breakfast not full board.
The bar was closed in the evening and we had to have drinks in a section of the dining room with no comfy lounge area. There was no entertainment so we went to other hotels to find..
