Enjoyed our holiday at the pez espada but can't really say its a four star. The rooms were large and kept clean by the cheerful maids,the beds and pillows we found to be very comfortable in our garden view room. The biggest drawback for me about the room was the fact I couldn't use my travel kettle, especially as I bothered to take it, I do like a drink when I wake up or if we spend any time in the room, I don't always want to sit downstairs to have a coffee.
The food was good although the choice was not always huge, we enjoyed what we had and the breakfasts were excellent. The waiters could be more cheery though, especially the younger ones, they could do with a lesson from the Italian waiters we had in sorrento at the hotel flora, they were always smiling and obviously enjoyed their work. The pez waiters didn't really want to look at you less speak or smile.
It's a pity the huge swimming pool is in the shade as it is too cold to use in november, and I did feel it should have been cleaned better as the leaves were allowed to stay floating and the bottom was green in places.
The hotel has a good position on the prom with plenty of little places to eat nearby and you can walk miles in either direction. The marina being near and the lovely Paloma park about 45 mins away, well worth a visit or two!! For the money we paid I would have to say it was good value and as the weather was excellent we enjoyed.

Having read many reviews of the hotel my husband and I knew exactly what to expect so there were no great surprises. Our room, 314, which faced the pool and sea was very clean but could use a facelift. The beds were very comfortable. Soap, bath gel, shampoo, body lotion, combs and shower caps were available for use and replenished as necessary. There’s a hair dryer as well.

The staff was friendly and helpful especially those in the dining room as well as the ladies who cleaned the rooms.

The outdoor pool was operational and had easy access however the water temperature was extremely cold and uninviting. Many from our group swam in the warmer sea which was a great alternative.

Having free wifi available in the lobby was indeed a bonus.

We found the food to be quite good for a buffet. Breakfast always included different kinds of egg preparations, bacon, pastries, cheese, cold meats, cereals, fresh fruits and an assortment of beverages. For lunch and dinner there was always a soup and a variety of salad ingredients. Main course items were stew type dishes, pasta and sauce and fresh fish. At dinner there was usually a carvery item as well....turkey breast, roast beef, ham. Fresh fruit was always available as well as pastries and wonderful ice cream with an assortment of topping items. No one ever went hungry.

From our hotel it was an easy walk to the shops and restaurants along the boardwalk. Public transportation at a reasonable price was available to the many town, cities and villages nearby. Taxis charge by the destination rather than by meter and were relatively inexpensive especially if two couples shared the cost.

The included excursions were excellent with ample time given for each. Our guides were very personable and informative. When there were no major excursions our trip manager took those who wished to participate to parks and shopping areas which was quite helpful and fun. The extra excursions were not as pleasurable because of the number of stops on the way to pick up people staying at various other hotels.

We were blessed with exceptionally good weather during our stay. Most days were sunny with temperatures in the mid to high 20s.

Torremolinos is a fabulous destination and the Hotel Pez Espada is an excellent choice for a long term stay.

Here is a Youtube video showing the outside lounging area of the hotel.

We stayed here at the beginning of November. We have been here a number of times. When we first visited some years ago, we were impressed but over the years the hotel has dropped in our estimation. It has 3 strong points - its location, the customer service in the restaurant and the level of cleanliness. The food is average. A reasonable choice but often lukewarm and dried up instead of hot. The hotel is in need of refurbishment; many areas are looking tatty. The pool was unappealing as is the hotel overall. As you look towards the sea, the side of the hotel to the right of the pool gets no sunshine at all. Reception staff were functional but not particularly friendly. We won't be returning until some improvements are made.

unique hotel with special ambience even though modern it retains an old atmosphere with own charm without being too modern great staff and service reception a little cold and unwelcoming unsmiling but this is common in Spain but would still recommend for couples without children,dont bring kids unless you want them to be bored senseless if you want days by the pool as no entertainment as such pool bitterly cold but beautiful.staff in restaurant are great

Stayed at The Pez Espada with family in October for one week. We all had a lovely time and were in rooms overlooking the pool and lovely gardens. Food was varied each night and on, what I think was a gala night, the paella was really tasty and accompanied by a bottle of bubbles! The staff were always friendly and helpful although I think maybe the staff in Frankie's Bar wished we went to bed earlier, however, they were always polite and served us with a smile... I am sure it is a lot quieter in that bar late at night now! Sorry for keeping you late!

I would recommend a visit to this hotel... The history of it is very interesting, I would have liked to have stayed in the early days when I am sure it was very grand!

Great situation for the beach and a lovely stroll along the paseo.

Stayed in Medplaya Pez Espada for 2 nights in October.
No offence, but that was the worst experience during this holiday in Spain.
My room was 224.
Some comments here say that this hotel is great 4 star hotel for Spain. I think that if you say 4 stars then there is no difference if it happens in Spain or in Russia.
I can give maximum three. I was staying in many hotels in Spain before and after Medplaya and have some experience. Price must be lower by 30-40% for such place.

Positive moments:
- Great location;
- Friendly woman on reception (Checked-in on 28th of October);
- Nice view from room;
- Free parking in hotel or municipal free parking near.

Negative moments:
- No WiFi on floors neither in the room. Only lobby and restaurant and works very slow.
- Carpet in room is covered with grease, stains and unknown liquids.
- Aircon is not working. Just making noise without cooling.
- Empty minibar;
- All furniture and equipment are very old (By all I mean everything, including bathroom, room and all areas of hotel).
- Faulty safe-box;
- Receptionists on check-out were rude. Really rude.

In fact I checked some hotels near by foot and there is a wide choice of better places for the same price.
