Booked this holiday with Thomson's at the last minute after saying that I didn't fancy staying in Torremolinos. What a wise decision to make, - and how wrong my previous perception had been of Torremolinos. Everything about our stay at La Pez Espada was perfect! Beautifully clean and cared for, delicious food, on the seafront, excellent service, near to public transport. The staff were so friendly, helpful and courteous. It was impossible to criticise any part of our holiday. We shall be making a return visit here when we are in need of a week's relaxation in the knowledge that every aspect of the Pez Espada is just what we need.

Room Tip: Our first floor room 112 was ideal with a good side sea view and overlooking the pool area. It was n...

Stayed here for a week in early springtime, and hired a car to tour Andalucia. It was definitely in need of an update, but apart from that everything was fine. We found the reception staff most welcoming and helpful. The dining area was clean and the staff were on hand should you need anything not on display. It was all self-service the week we were there, but I must say there was plenty of choices and the food was well prepared. The bedroom was typically spanish and had good views over the beach area. Pool and sunbathing area was well kept and clean. I can thoroughly recommend this hotel to both adult parties and families with children. It was not noisy, and in fact we had a lovely time there and found the shole experience both relaxing and restful.

Room Tip: Rooms on the south side have the sunshine, higher floors have the better views

We have just returned from our holiday here - 4 adults and 2 kids (14 and 11) - the hotel is fab - prime location for the beach and bars and resteraunts,, secure access in and out from the hustle and bustle of the strip, the food is excellent - very varied, pasta salads, hor deurves, meat, fish, local and international dishes, puddings are gorgeous too - the staff are fantastic - big shout out to "pool man" who was attentive and helpful and would open locked doors for ease of access for one of our party in and out the hotel and he did the same for other guests who needed a bit of extra help - also the lifeguards who were attentive and observant - they stopped riotous kids with balls etc in a polite but fair way - also the bar staff - hurray for Geronimo!! and the two lovely ladies in Frankie's bar -they were friendly and patient and constantly on the go! All in all we have really enjoyed our stay here - 3rd time for us but over a 14 yea period! Very clean and well maintained but agree it s ready for an update.

Ok, lets get the only small negative part addressed first. The rooms certainly need updated but it shouldn't put you off. This hotel is of a very good standard. Spotless dining and reception area, well maintained pool and sunbathing area. Very helpful staff at reception and at dining. The food is of a very good standard with adequate choices. Room cleaned and changed every day to a good level. Great location with very little noise. We have been to this resort a number of times and I have to say that this hotel food was the best so far. Men must wear trousers in the dining area at dinner. (not a bad thing in my opinion) All-in-all, this hotel will not disappoint you and I would certainly go back!

This was a top hotel in it's time and attracted many famous people (photos cover the walls) and a bar named after Frank Sinatra (who stayed there).
Food is excellent with a vast choice.
I believe this hotel will be refurbished this year and it will be interesting to see the finished article.

Room Tip: Main block overlooking the pool.

We have just returned from a one week break at the Pez Espada with our two children aged 9 and 12. Basically it is a good hotel and one which we would return to. However the planned refurbishment is long overdue. We booked directly with the hotel to get a family suite on the 7th floor and we were a little disappointed when we saw it as I think it was the original decor! The balcony even though had fantastic views was rather scruffy with chunks of plaster having fallen off the wall and left on the floor and the tiles which had cracked and chipped had been repaired without any sense of pride in the job. However once we had settled in we found the room to be comfortable and spotlessly clean. The TV was disappointing with only one English channel and although we don't go on holiday to watch TV it would be nice even to have some movies which you could pay for if required as the children like to watch TV whilst we get ready to go our or upon our return to the room from the pool. The hotel itself has a nice ambience and if you like being left on your own and not bothered by anyone its a good place to be - mainly because there is very little service. We found that lunch by the pool took ages to order and there was no poolside service which considering that a lot of the guests were in their senior years could prove quite lucrative for the hotel. The sunbed reserving was quite a nuisance and I saw people going down around 6.30am when it was still dark to put towels on the bed. In fact one man told me as he reserved his 3 sunbeds before going to breakfast that he was looking for another 3 beds as his son was arriving at the hotel later that afternoon!!We sat at the grassed area at the rear of the hotel and the pool man would always find beds for us, this was a lovely spot to site albeit quite shady in the morning but the sun would remain strong there until around 7pm. The buffet in the evening was good but we did go out to eat twice in the evening. As mentioned by another reviewer the dress code was adhered to by the men but some of the women came in as though they had just come up from the pool in various states of undress so I feel the management should address this. There is a mix of pleasant and very unpleasant staff and in particular one gentleman at the reception (who I won't name) really should go on a customer care course. The hotel is in a fantastic location as out through the garden you are right on to the promenade with a short and safe walk to the marina. The beach is directly off the promenade and access back into the hotel is with your room card. There is a taxi rank just outside the hotel with taxis available throughout the day and night. Vee the Thomson rep is very helpful and although we didn't travel with Thomson she was very helpful and booked us a trip to Gibraltar. All in all the good points of the hotel far outweigh the bad although with a little foresight on the part of the management and in view of the planned refurbishment it could become a great hotel.

Room Tip: The rooms in annexe are newer and better, Excellent views from the suites on 7th floor but suite 70...
