This hotel was excellent except for indoor pool. W booked this hotel because it had advertised an indoor pool. This was a big disappointment. The pool was open but not heated and the area was damp and neglected. Everything else about this hotel was great.

Just got back from two weeks at the Pez Espada, now we knew that this was quite an old hotel and it did feel as though we were stepping back in time. Holiday was just ok but feel that the Pez struggles to reach its four star rating, as in many of the reviews we found the reseption staff not helpful at all, in fact quite surly at times, room was ok though nothing special, we had a sea view which was fine in the newer section. Food, very average, in the evening there was a carvery monady wednesday and friday, the other days, food kept warm in large trays and not outstanding in flavour, vegetables I think were frozen, not much choice, lots of mixed vegetables that took me back to school dinners. Breakfast, usual selection of bread, rolls, cold meats, jams etc, I found the cooked food at breakfast very poor, ended the latter part of the holiday on boiled eggs, scambled egg I think was made from powder, it had a very odd consistency, bacon , hard, tomatoes had a very odd flavour so kept away from them. Back to general comments, we were lucky with good weather, pool area not attractive, enough sunbeds, not sure if there would be enough in the summer, I would say not suitable for children, pool area not very safe and the water always seemed to have bits in it, so I stayed out of it . The outside of the building looks as though it could do with a makeover, on windy days there seemed be quite a lot of the flaking paint around the grounds. On one side of the building there was an open drain downcomer, not very attractive and another section covering some pipes that had literally come away from the wall. When we arrived, we talked to other guests who informed us that quite a few people staying had had very nasty stomach trouble, we hoped we'd avoid it but my partner came down with it very, very badly a couple of days before we left. Just a thought, before entering the restaurant guests were advised to use a hand disinfectant before going in to eat, bit like the stuff you see in a hospital.....was wondering if there'd been a recent problem ??
We always travel with Thomson and have not been disappointed before but I have to say we will not be back to the Pez Espada

A once trendy hotel visited by the good and great in the 60/70,s.. but now tired and in need of serious investment. Flaking plaster everywhere.. even on the main staircase, old carpets average rooms. Reception staff not really overly freindly. On the good side, location is great, food and service was good, transfer time is quick from the airport. Because of the way the hotel is positioned if you do nothing else, book a room which is south facing. These rooms are bigger and you will get the sun most of the day on your balcony. If you book a basic room they are small, dim and you will get no sun at all on your balcony. I would not go back to this hotel or this part of Spain, having said that there are many mature people who go back year after year. One final point we hired a car and were able to park at the hotel without problems.

My wife and i booked the pez espada last minute. We booked a superior room. Unfortunately superior room means seaview in this hotel. The room was just an ordinary 3 star standard room. The gala night at new year was very good. The food in general was good but the choice was limited in the evenings unless you like' chips' We are both in are late forties and were about 20 years to young!

After booking this "Lively and Exciting hotel" through Thomsons for a New Year break, we were highly disappointed when we arrived. The Pez Espada was an average hotel in a great location, although it has got a fantastic reputation and many visitors do return year after year. The reception staff were hostile and unwelcoming...not what you would like to be faced with after an 11 hour delay! We were not helped at all with our luggage, and the reception staff snorted as I tried to carry my heavily pregnant wife's bag as well as my own. Although the reception area looks quite grand, the bedrooms are dark and dingy, and are in dire need of a makeover. The paintwork is shabby and there were several cockroaches in the bathroom some nights. The food was excellent, and the staff in the restaurant did make an effort during the gala dinner on new years eve, but they were miserable every other day...and BEWARE- you get charged a ridiculous amount for drinks even when you are half board.
The location however was excellent, and I would certainly recommend Rumours Bar, Tom's Tavern and especially Mr Jeeves for cheap drinks and friendly banter with the ex pats who frequent there. The marina at Benalmadena is lovely for a walk and some of the bars there are quite nice too. The beach was nice and really close to the hotel, but as it was quite cold we did not use it much. Overall a poor hotel with hostile staff and no day time activities, but a holiday made nice with the friendly ex pats and staff in the bars.

Having been to a wedding in Granada on the 14th Nov. 09 we decided to rent a car and drive down to the coast. We happened to stop at Torremolinos, parked up and walked along the promenade. We just happened on the Pez Espada. We intended to stay for one night and move on.
We had dinner there which, for a buffet, was excellent. We enjoyed the evening entertainment of singing and magic which was quality.
After a good fry up the next morning and a walk along the beach we decided we didn't need to go any further and booked in to the Pez for 4 nights H/B.
All in all it was a brilliant few days. The staff at the hotel were helpful and very courteous. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The only negative observation, perhaps, was that the carpets and general painting was a little tired looking but this really didn't effect out stay in any way.
During holidays we enjoy the variety of eating out away from the hotel so a big attraction for us was that there is a great selection of good restaurants and pubs in the area as well. We will definitely go back there again in the not too distant future.

stayed here in nov , the weather was really lovely late 70 s, had a balcony room over looking pool, a little tired but ok. We arrived approx 11am and the room was really hot and uncomfotable asked reception how air con worked and was told it was their winter and it was switched off till march! The reception staff were very unhelpful but eventually offered us a back room with a minute balcony and no sun at all, but we took this because at least it was a little more comfortable(sadly the beds were not!)
We stay in this area often and this is 1st and last time for this hotel. We found the staff uncaring and rude and to be honest not at all pleasent.
