“Still good”
Reviewed 30 August 2010

Just got back from two weeks at the Pez Espada. We went there two years ago with three of our teenage children and returned this year with one of them and her 16 year old friend.
We noticed two changes since last time; one being the food was good last time but that it was even better this time and the other; that the evening entertainment was poor last time but somehow this time it was even worse.
I’m surprised at some recent postings about food, rooms and staff. We found the food to be superb and varied, the rooms were good (we had two rooms on the sixth floor and maybe rooms on other floors haven’t been refurbished) and we found the staff generally pleasant and helpful (the guy in the restaurant would come over smiling for our drinks order and could even remember our room number!).
Another plus for the hotel was that their snack and drinks prices were better than those by the beach.
All in all a good time.
PS: GENTS: remember to wear long trousers when you go for dinner as they’re very strict on that ruling.

Whilst the Hotel could probably benefit from a make over, it was a little dated, it did offer good value for money. The hotel was situated a stones throw from the beach and bars and restuarants were all within walking distance. The food was buffet style and there was something for everyone. We were half-board and enjoyed sampling the local food at lunch time. The only negetive comment I have is there was insufficient sunbeds around the pool area. Most had gone first thing and despite being reminded in the info card in the rooms, that they should not be left unattended, otherwise towels would be removed, this was not enforced by the staff. As a result, we ended up spending 4.50 Euros each every day for a sunbed on the beach. We would both consider returning to this hotel.

We booked this hotel as a last minute deal. After reading many of the reviews we were very worried about what we were letting ourselves in for. However we were very pleasantly surprised upon reaching the hotel.

The hotel is situated in an ideal location right on the beach front within easy walking distance of Benalmadenia and Torremolinos.

Very close by there are many tavernas, bars, resturants - ranging from very traditional Spanish resturants to Burger King!

The beach stretches around the edge of the resort for miles with golden sand and clean sea.

Our room was described as having a garden room, which in effect was a view over the pool, garden and sea. It was great to sit on the balcony relaxing with a drink looking out to sea.

The room itself was clean and linen/towles changed daily, it contained all the usual things - safe, hairdryer, fridge, air conditioning (not affected by the key card electricity supply so it stayed on all the time - fab!)

The communal areas were very impressive, always kept clean and welcoming.

We stayed on a half board basis. The breakfast was served until 10.30am much later than other hotels we've stayed in. There was a wide variety of fresh cooked items, continental style meats, cheeses and bread as well as fresh fruit, croissants, cereals, juices and tea and coffee. The evening meals were varied and of a good quality. A freshly roasted carvery option was available most nights and the beef was amazing. The rest of the dishes offered a big choice, including vegetarian options.

The staff were very professional and spoke excellent English. Our lights tripped one day and immediately a staff member came up to fix them.

The pool was large with a lot of sun loungers available for guests. There was a notice requesting guests not to save loungers with towels but this was ignored. We always managed to find a lounger after lunch for a quick swim and sun bathe as in the mornings we tended to walk and sight see. The pool and surrounding areas were kept very clean and safe with at least one life guard on duty during the hours of 10am - 6pm.

The beach and costal path could be accessed by a gate at the bottom of the garden area - very handy.

We worried we might be the youngest guests in the hotel but not at all it was full of a mixture of couples of all ages and families with younger and older children. Everyone seemed to be having a great time.

We would recommend both the resort and hotel and would happily return again.

We enjoyed the weather, food was varied for adults, and it was good that the kids could help themselves to more if they disliked what they had first chosen. But not alot of choice for kids except for fries. Our room was clean and a lovely view ,but beds uncomfortable and heard neighbour snore all nite, the cleaners were very pleasant always greeted us,unlike the majority of staff a load of miserable !!!!!!!!!!!! the female receptionist was ignorant, and restaurant staff a grumpy lot.I didnt like the fact that if we didnt get up at the crack of dawn to save a sunbed or you would be out of luck, spoils holiday saving beds.Entertaiment was rubbish. We will never return to Pez Espada and the unfriendly staff.

We booked late and after reading some of the reviews wondered what we were letting ourselves in for. After a little hic-up with the air con in the room (sorted out within hours - remember high season - and incidentaly worked so well that our daughter had to use a blanket on occasion, during the night) we found that this hotel was a little jem. Yes, it is a little 'tired' in places but compared to other hotels this was at an acceptable level. Whoever said that the food was awful must be referring to another hotel. After forty years of travelling, a lot of it in Europe, I can honestly say that the food was of a very good standard and the desserts were excellent. Pool towels, hairdryers, flat screen TY (BBC ITV) Close to all amenities, professional staff. What more can I say - you will have a wonderful holiday,

I stayed at the Prez Espanda with my two daughter‘s aged 23 and 13 in August 2010. My first impression of the hotel was that it appeared very nice, however in daylight it became apparent that the hotel was indeed very dated and tired looking especially the rooms which are fitted with a very dated, dirty carpet. Mould was clearly evident on the ceilings in both the bedroom and bathroom areas of our room.
The rooms were cleaned daily to a good standard along with the rest of the hotel including the pool area. There were plenty of sun beds, however in the Thompson brochure it states pool towels are available, what it fails to mention is that each towel must be secured by a deposit of 20 Euros. (So do not let the towels out of your sight as they will be the most expensive beach towels’ purchased).
The food was very good and varied daily, however the evening drink prices would vary depending on where you sat in the restaurant.
I found the staff to be extremely unfriendly and unhelpful especially in the restaurant and on the reception desk. The evening entertainment was very poor and can only be describe as dull and boring. I believe that this was due to the fact it was aimed at a much older audience. With this in mind my daughters and I ventured out of the hotel most evenings, but I must stress please be careful as we were approached by a Romanian lady who used forms of distraction to put her hand into my handbag and try to remove my purse.
If I returned to this hotel when I was over 60, I would probably find it most enjoyable.

After reading some poor reviews on this hotel I was worried having already booked our holiday. However, we were pleasantly surprised. It is true that the hotel is a little tired and perhaps outdated in parts but this did not spoil our holiday in the slightest. The rooms were comfortable and very clean and the maids do a brilliant job. The food was certainly very good with plenty of choice, my daughter of 13 can be quite fussy but she always found something to eat! The pool could be a little bigger and there are lots of rules and regulations about floats, diving, splashing etc. but this all depended on which lifeguard was on duty!! Although it states that beds cannot be reserved we didn't find any towels being thrown off sun beds, except for someone who tried to put them out the night before which is of course quite unreasonable! Staff are generally helpful, especially in the restaurant. The big benefit of this hotel is the closeness to the beach, you literally go out the back gate onto the path (there is no roadway with cars) and the beach is right there. The man who runs the sun beds at 'Jesus y Tere' restaurant opposite the Pez is great, very friendly and welcoming and will also reserve beds for you, especially on the weekend when it gets busy with locals coming to the beach. On a last note, Hanna who runs the kids entertainment is excellent, and the evening entertainment was quite good but didn't go on very late. It just got lively and then all ended, sometimes as early as 11pm, could do with extending a bit. Overall a good holiday and would go back in the futue.
