My wife and I who are in our mid 30’s and little one aged 2 stayed in this very nice hotel for a week in June and we had a very pleasant experience. The hotel has many advantages. Firstly, it’s very close to Malaga airport, literally 10 minutes in the taxi. That’s a great advantage if travelling with children. I really enjoyed watching the planes fly in and there was no issue with noise. Our taxi transfer was pre-arranged with Resorthoppa and the driver was ready and waiting for us.

Our first impression of the hotel upon arrival is that reception is quite modern and the staff were very pleasant. We weren’t offered drinks upon arrival but noticed others were during our stay. This didn’t particularly bother me but it does seem that drinks are usually offered to guests upon arrival. Check in was quick and easy and we were given our room key and shown to the lifts. They helpfully asked if we needed help with luggage which was a nice touch. We found reception staff to be very pleasant, professional and helpful with respect to giving information about the local area as well as details of what happening in the hotel.

Our room was on a low floor and overlooked the outside seating area and the grounds. We were towards the front of the hotel and this is quite helpful if wanting to get to reception, dining areas and bar/entertainment areas. Otherwise the hotel is quite long, stretching to the outdoor pool/bar area at the back. The room was surprisingly spacious with a seating area and single bed/sofa at the front and there was a private bedroom towards the rear. We used the living space at the front for storage mainly. One small quirk is there is no tv in the living area. You have to sit or lie on the bed if you wanted to watch some tv. Our little one has her daily nap at about 2pm. It would have been nice to have had a tv in the sitting area. The tv provided is from the dark ages which was quite a surprise to see. Most of the hotels we’ve stayed at have now got good flat screens but not this one. It had very limited channels in English. Again, this wasn’t a big deal as we didn’t watch much of it anyway. A big plus in the room was the mini fridge however. The bed was comfortable. We had no problems sleeping. The bathroom was ok although could do with modernising a little. One thing to note is to take your own toiletries. The hotel don’t give enough and the ones they give are very cheap quality.

Theres plenty of sunbeds around the well kept gardens and pool. No problems getting a pace to chill. The pool was lovely and our little one loved the childrens splash pool. The water is very cold though and gets a bit of getting used to but it was so hot, wasn’t too bad in the end. The entertainment team work hard all day. Theres quite a lot on offer and it was nice to see many people, young and old join in the activities.

I enjoyed the pool bar. Theres self service drinks galore including, beer, wine, juices, coffee, tea etc. Theres bar service too for spirits and cocktails. The staff were all kind and happy and service was quick.

We loved the food at meal times. Lots of fresh meats, show cooking and the food is replaced quickly and was always hot. It was nice to see food managers keeping an eye on the food, and even tidying up after guests. We loved being welcomed into the restaurant by the managers which was a nice touch. You are seated by a manager and this saved looking around for tables. You could always ask to seat in an area eg outdoors if you wanted to and there was good communication between the managers and waiters to get tables cleaned and reset quickly if required. The food was healthy and there were lots of dessert options too. No complaints at all. We didn’t eat breakfast as our little one always had a lie in! However, there is a small area where continental breakfast is kept going for those who miss the main breakfast meal. This consisted of croissants, some cakes, selection of cold meats and cheese. My wife and I really enjoyed this.

The evening entertainment is quite good. The indoor entertainment hall is made to look like the inside of a ship. Our little one loved the mini disco and we watched some of the other acts too including the Spanish dancing. The main RIU entertainment team consists of Bryan and Maria who are great and work hard all day involving guests into activities. I am not one to play darts

The hotel is placed one block back from the beach. The side road takes you to the promenade and theres a few shops along the way of essentials eg souvenirs and groceries. The beach was lovely, its a dark sand. Its soft and gets very hot in the day!

All in all, we would recommend the hotel. Its a good all inclusive and has everything needed for a family holiday.

We have recently returned from our annual family holiday, staying at the Rui Costa Lago in Torremolinos for 12 nights on all inclusive.

Overall – Great Hotel, nice food, nice guests, good location, well kept, clean, welcoming, good quality 4 star hotel. We would happily recommend and intend to go back again next year.

Location – Situated 10 minutes drive from Malaga airport, a 20 minute walk into the centre of Torremolinos and a short stroll to the beach this hotel is perfectly located for a relaxed family holiday. There is a bus stop directly outside the hotel which can take you into the centre of Torremolinos. Don’t bother lugging loads of toiletries, the hotel provides a few sachets and small soap and you can stock up at Dealz by Poundland (everything €1.50!) in the centre of Torremolinos! There is also a train station ‘La Colina’ a 10 min walk from the hotel which goes in the direction to either Malaga or Fuengirola. For children there is a mini golf (quite expensive at €5 per person but worth it) and trampolines/bouncy castles €3 for 10/15 mins just a short walk away along the paseo (seafront). There are also public play parks just around the corner from the hotel.

Reception – A lovely welcome with glass of bubbly for the adults and fruit drink for the children. Easy check in/out. Pool towels were provided free of charge and safety deposit box (located in the room) was free with a €10 euro refundable deposit for the key. Pacqui was very knowledgeable and helpful and made a fuss of our two girls - which they loved.
Room – We had a family room which consisted of a lounge where there was a small sofa and we had two beds in there for our girls. A good sized bathroom plus main bedroom with fridge and (old style) TV. We were on the 2nd floor overlooking the pool. We would request a room in this location for next time.

Restaurant – the food was of a high standard and good selections. Breakfast and lunch you could sit anywhere but for dinner you had a set table and there were two sittings 6.30pm or 8.15pm. This we found worked well. There was always grilled fish, salad, pasta dishes, various meats and regular carvery/paella station. They also had an Andalucian Cuisine nigh and Mediterranean evening while we were there. The puddings were lovely, there was always a good selection of ice cream and pastries/cakes/jelly/fruit. Be careful with the ice cream scoop though as some people were leaving them in the boiling water used to clean them off which meant the handles would be scorching hot (I did mention this to the restaurant manager). There was red, white, rose wine and lager plus soft drinks on tap during lunch and dinner.

Pool – the only thing I think that should have had more thought into it when building the hotel was the shape of the pool – it is an odd shape and could easily have been bigger for the number of people the hotel has. But in saying that, the children’s pool was of a good size and the shape of main pool should not put you off booking this hotel. People did reserve sun loungers, particularly those next to the pool or in the shaded areas so my husband did have to do the sun bed dash each morning by about 8.30am but that was fine as we were getting up for breakfast then anyway.

Pool Bar – There was self service machines for soft drinks, coffee/hot water for tea plus lager, sangria, red, white and rose wine on tap. From the staffed bar there were slush drinks for the kids plus alcoholic ones for the adults. Any other combination of drinks could also be obtained from over the bar.

Evening ‘Salon’ Bar – this opened at 6pm and had an adjacent terrace self service bar (which is also where the coffee/cakes are available from 4pm-5pm and the continental breakfast from 10am – 11.30am). There was a list of drinks in the Salon Bar showing those available on all inclusive. Please note that if your favourite drink/cocktail isn’t on the list just ask if it can be included as I didn’t and realised on my last evening that my favourite cocktail was included!

Entertainment – There was regular daytime and evening entertainment. Brian and Maria worked well together to provide the adults and children’s activities switching from Spanish to English, French, Dutch effortlessly. There was riffle shooting, aqua aerobics, water volleyball, football to name but a few. For the children, Maria was excellent, my two girls LOVED her. They played water volleyball, made flowers and a vase from paper and straws (which we have painstakingly carried all the way home!) they had pirate day where they made boats/flags and went on a treasure hunt. Maria regularly did face painting, games and quizzes with the children as well as mini disco at 9pm each evening followed by Dipolmas which was the highlight of our girl’s day. There were professional shows ‘The Black Brothers’ being our favourite (not the most politically correct name for an act!) they were brilliant – the best acrobats I’ve ever seen, they were comical too. There was a juggler/plate spinner guy who we saw twice and was very good both times, interacting with the audience plus two different flamenco shows and two individual professional singers (a young guy who was good but all the kids wanted was to dance to disco music and a lady who was so bad I wasn’t sure if that was the act!). Brian and Maria also did Bingo and Quiz nights which went down well with all nationalities.

Staff - The staff were friendly and helpful, particularly Pacqui on Reception, Javier and Yolanda in the Dining Room for letting me practice my Spanish on them! A special to Javier also as it was my husband’s birthday while we were there and he arranged for a bottle of cava on our table and fruit cocktails for the children which was a great surprise and of course Brian and especially Maria who is truly amazing and helped make our holiday with the entertainment and mini club – we are still singing the “Veo, Veo, una Cosita” song!

Feedback – There are no toilets on the same floor as the Salon Bar/Reception so you have to go through either the terrace area or reception to access the stairs to the toilets on the lower level by the restaurant – this we found a bit inconvenient. Some nights we simply went back to our room it was quicker! Also the lack of free wifi is something that could be included in future, even if it’s just in public areas.

Other than that, for us, this hotel was simply perfect for our family holiday. We had the BEST TIME EVER and will return. Thank You Riu Costa Lago.

I stayed at this hotel for a week with my girlfriend. We arrived at the check in desk and we're immediately greeted by a friendly member of staff who checked us in and handed us a complimentary glass of sparkling wine whilst he talked us through meal times and the facility's on offer.

The room was really clean and everything we wanted with a balcony overlooking the pool. (I'm not really sure what some negative people expect in their room when it is simply where you sleep.)
The hotel facility's are good with a pool bar, daily entertainment for kids and adults, indoor bar with terrace and a spa (with additional fees.) Like the room everything is very clean and the staff simply don't stop they are constantly on the go.
The restaurant is your typical all inclusive buffet with a wide range of food available. The food is superbly cooked and plentiful and again the staff are really friendly.

The staff in general really are a credit to this hotel and must be commended. They did everything to ensure my holiday was as relaxing and good as it could be. The hotel is spotless as the cleaning staff are so thorough, the pool area is tidy and clean and the bar staff and waiters are brilliant.

The resort around the hotel is good. To be fair I booked this hotel because I wanted somewhere I could relax in for a week without venturing out too much but there are plenty of shops, restaurants and bars in the area and the beach is about 300m from the front door. The hotel is also only about a 15 min drive from Malaga airport so no need for lengthy transfers.

As I said before this was a holiday for us as a couple which it is perfect for but it seems to be equally great for family's as the kids seemed to be well catered for and entertained.
Highly recommended.

This was our first family holiday with our 6 month old and grand parents. The entrance is very nice and the hotel staff greeted us with a welcome smile. The air con in reception worked really well. We arrived early so our rooms were not ready so we had lunch. This was a great surprise as the food was really nice. Something for everyone.
The room was ready not long after and we had the keys. Great view of the pool and sea. But the room was very dated and the air con terrible. The beds and pillow are awful. So hard it was a joy to lie on a sun lounger.
There are only 2 toilets downstairs by the pool, bar, restauarant and main entertainment room so only swim in the mornings if you get my drift. So much chlorine went in the pool first thing to kill the wee I guess.
3 out of our party of 4 adults came down with a bad stomach which stayed for a few days.

The entertainment in the day time is very poor but the one main entertainment machine works very hard.
The shows on the night are even worse apart from Friday and Saturday night which were Ok.
They have a special restuarant which is very good. If you drink wine, beer or pop its great. Anything else you have a long walk to the bar.as thy would not serve you. Now this was odd as its the pool bar and late night bar.
Saving a lounger by the pool was easy and we never had a problem.
Overall this hotel does cater for the Germans and Spanish more than the English. The food saved the hotel. It is not a 4 star hotel.

Stayed at the rui Costa Lago in May 2014.
We loved every minute, we travelled as a large group of 4 families with kids ranging from 1-12.
The weather was amazing ( one morning of rain but soon cleared up)

As it's not a Massive complex it was safe for the kids they were always close by.

Room - plenty big enough , lots of storage, lovely view ask for pool view amazing. Fridge in rain and hair dryer in bathroom ( not very powerful )

Food - lots of variety, we all really enjoyed the food. Always found something to eat. Was allocated a table at evening time ( 2 sittings) so was nice to go in and not look round for a table. Drinks are self service which suited us fine. Always a carved meat, fresh pasta, fish, fresh bread, chips , salad, enough choice every night and lovely.

Entertainment, yes don't go expecting west end shows. It's is average at night but we like to just sit and chat, play cards etc . If you need shows to fill your evening this maybe isn't the hotel for you. The salon bar does get busy but we always found a table and the kids enjoyed the disco with Brian.

2 outside bars areas, both have help yourself beer and wine and soft drinks and coffee. But for cocktails etc there is also waiters to serve you drinks.

Beach is literally a 5 minute walk away - lovely clean beach and promenade which is flat and has shops, bars, restaurants if you fancy a change from the hotel.

Train - a 10/15 minute walk up a steepish hill. Very cheap to visit tore millions centre and benalmedena, fueringarola. Very curate timetable and comfy ride

Taxi to benalmedena, if you don't want to go for the train , make sure you ask the fare before you get in. Also there is a sol Timor hotel on the border of torremilinos/ benalmadena - if dropped there it is classed a torremilinos so the taxi is cheaper. From there the harbour is 5 minute walk. Saves you paying more than you have to.

Transfer to airport- 20 minutes away great with kids

Staff - all very helpful pleasant

The only negative really is toilets - one set of toilets are situated downstairs near the restaurant. This is fine but when you are upstairs in the bar it seems a pain to have to go all the way downstairs. Very minor I know. Also the locks in the toilet are temperamental, my daughter got locked in and panicked but again easily resolvable problem ( don't lock it or hotel change the locks)
